Dropped at the Rock Store
« on: April 14, 2013, 12:07:22 am »
The one and only time my Connie was dropped (since I've owned it new in 2002) was a few months ago at the Rock Store. I'm sure most of you have heard of the Rock Store on Mulholland Highway in So Cal. It's THE big place to meet on Sunday's and in the summer there are at least a couple of hundred bikes there at a time. Many weekends Jay Leno comes by with one of his cars or his jet-powered bike and occasionally some other stars show up,as well as sport riders, "bikers", tourist etc....

Being that I only live about 5 miles from the Rock Store I go there pretty regularly and usually park in the front row for rapid egress. This one Sunday while pulling out of the front row, the bike stumbled off idle and caught me off guard as I was trying to make a tight right turn -- causing the sloooooowwwwww tip-over that I could not stop. You'd think since I was barely moving it would be a virtually soundless drop -- but noooooo, it sounded pretty damn loud. So there I am looking like some squirrel-geek with my Connie lying in the middle of the road and at least 100 riders staring at me. Some of the "bikers" had to laugh LOUDLY,  :D while the more civilized ones merely chortled. :rotflmao: Of course I could not get the bike up fast enough -- but since it is the first time it has been down it turned out to be much heavier than I expected. Luckily a nice couple  :beerchug: came along and helped me pick the old Connie up so I could get aboard none-too-soon and ride off   >:( into the horizon.   :'(

Ouch. You couldn't have chosen a worst place to drop it.

It seems as if one of the requirements for a drop is an audience.  If I'm going to do something foolish, it stands to reason that there needs to be at least one person there to laugh at me.  At least it happened as you were leaving, so you didn't have to hang around listening to the guffaws.  Glad to hear that neither you nor Connie was hurt and that some kind-hearted souls helped you back up.

And your incident does qualify you for the CDA Award except for one thing.

You need to be a full COG member.  Don't worry, we don't make you drop it again after you've joined in order to qualify!  Most folks join if they hang around a while and like what we do here, so just drop me a line after that happens and we'll add you to the roster.

Attila, Attila, Attila.... Have not communicated with you since the posting on the XR1200 forum days. My drop has to be a close second in terms of worst location. Top of Mulholland in front of a bunch of my bicycling buddies and in front of Paul Herold (Rock Store Photos) who was laughing and snapping pictures. Fortunately Paul is a friend and laughed only because I was laughing and did not post any of the pictures.

I am at The Rock Store about two Sundays a month early Sunday morning, 7:30 to 8:00ish. I like earlier better because the hard core regualrs are there and are an interesting bunch and the riff-raff has not arrived yet. If you see my '08 Connie look for me and say hi.
If it can't be fixed with a hammer you can sure as hell teach it a lesson.
