My names Allan, and I've dropped Connie twice!
« on: February 15, 2009, 08:28:00 pm »
I'm really beginning to question my abilities here. I've only had this bike for about a month, and I've dropped her twice now. I'm currently blaming both occasions on soft ground (but it was really just bad judgment on my part). Both times, were after taking out of the shed. The first time, I started to loose balance, and I slipped in the mud, letting her go over. No significant damage, other than a long crack on the back of a side case. The second time, I had her on the center stand, in the yard, and she simply went over. Broke the mirror at the ball joint, the upper fairing at the corner around the turn signal, and broke all three tabs off the turn signal. It even cracked the inner fairing. Needless to say, I'm really beginning to question my abilities to deal with this top heavy bike. On the other hand, I'll be spending all of Presidents Day digging up the yard in front of my shed and installing paving bricks. I can't afford to let this happen again... Allan

That sux!      Consider that soft turf and mud is very slippery stuff...  Kinda like hitting patch of black ice. Not much gonna keep even a bottom heavy bike upright.   Don't beat yourself up. Get her out for a ride and she will forgive you.  --  Steve Smith, COG #3184  COG Northeast Area Director  (somewhere in south central CT)     If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.

There is more to be gained by members raising hands saying "I'll do that" instead of pointing fingers saying "nobody's doing that."

Yep good ground is something you want to keep under you.  I have had only a couple gentle landings but both were due to soft or unstable ground.  I would fix your home port and hope for tera firma ?sp from now on.  ----------------------------------  South Central Area Director  Email scad@cog-online.org    <p align="left">My Photos<br

Allan, CDA0292.  Two drops for me too.  The second was with Murph's tip-over bars - major damage prevented!  Practice makes perfect and stay away from slippery surfaces and situations that make dropping likely.  Greg H from Mass, Connie Droppers Anonymous Awards Dude  COG# 7010,a Tracey  CDA 120  99 Connie "Herrin Christabelle", 05 Ninja 250

Hi Allan, sorry about your drop(s). I've done it too.  It seems to help to read posts in this section from time to time.  I learn from others and am reminded to never take for granted the this bike is top-heavy and to remain alert.      As was said earlier - get back on the horse and ride, she'll forgive you!  :)
