I'll have a #8, and a #4 with a large Coke, please

The first one happened about 3 months after I bought it.

I was on a ride out to the Oregon coast, solo, and it was really early in the season. It was February. As I got into the Coastal Range, it got foggy. Very foggy.  I found a mom & pop General Store, and pulled into the parking lot to see if I should turn around, or just keep going.

I got off the bike, and leaned up against the trunk to check out the map on my phone.

Something shifted.  Hmm. That was weird.

I stood up, and walked away still looking down at my phone, trying to figure out how far away the coast was.  Then, I heard the most awful sound.

I looked back, she was on her side, and one of the saddlebags was bouncing away like a kid's soccer ball.

I stood it back up without much trouble. She's a heavy bike, but adrenaline is a powerful tool.

The entire left side fairings from front to rear were chewed up. The bracket to the left saddle bag was broken. I went in to the store, got some screws, etc, and got it mounted firmly.

I decided to continue my ride. I refused to let that end my ride.

The next day, I called my insurance agent, and I took the bike back to the dealership where I bought her just a few weeks earlier.

$5000 damage.

The second one was a few years later, as I was backing out of a spot.  It was one of those "whoa, whoa, whoa.. aw, CRAP!"

She fell over with me in the saddle.  Again, I stood her up.

The damage this time was no where near as bad, thankfully. The muffler was a little scuffed, and the rear saddlebag got some small "speed stripes".  Oh, and the bracket that holds the footpeg broke.

Boy that first one was just awful.  Five grand worth of damage is nothing to laugh at, but at least you weren't hurt in the process.  It doesn't always work out that way.  Your incident does qualify you for the CDA Award except for one thing.

You need to be a full COG member.  Don't worry, we don't make you drop it again after you've joined in order to qualify!  Most folks join if they hang around a while and like what we do here, so just drop me a line after that happens and we'll add you to the roster.
