I hope this doesn't qualify!
« on: June 05, 2009, 12:53:00 am »
Last year (March 08) I was staying in Tacoma @ my Mom's house. I had a 3 day weekend training seminar @ a hotel near SeaTac Airport. Since her house is closer to SeaTac than mine & it gives me a chance to visit, I stayed there with her. Saturday morning I get up & get ready to leave. I look out the front window & it has snowed! There aren't any curbs or sidewalks in her neighborhood, so I park the bike where I can set the sidestand on the concrete water meter cover. This however is an area that you can't see from the house, since there is a tree in the front yard. So out I go, expecting to wipe the snow off the seat and windshield then hit the road (luckily it's just a thin layer of slushy crap on the grass & cars, not really sticking on the road). What I find is my bike laying on it's right side. Someone must have pushed it over, since it would have been on it's left side had the side stand slipped. I wrastle it into submission (thanks to the tips posted here) & head on out. Luckily, nothing is broken! A little later in the morning, I return a message my wife left on my cell. She got a call from the Tacoma Police, asking about my bike. After she tells them that I'm staying in Tacoma & riding the bike, they seem satisfied that it wasn't a stolen vehicle & end the call. They didn't bother to tell her that it was on it's side! I guess they figured I'd been out drinking or something & fell off the bike when I got to my destination!  What Say Ye!

HawkeyePierce, CDA0299.  I've awarded CDA's for stranger things including a bear knocking over the bike.  That is kinda bizzare being on its right side.  Maybe we have to call up Mythbusters on this one?!  Under what circumstances does a Connie fall to the right?    P.S.  Love the M.A.S.H. movie and Suntherland's portrayal of Hawkeye Pierce.  "Yes sir, yes sir, I'll go anywhere with you sir" - from the opening scene.  The whistle was a nice touch as well.      Greg H from Mass, Connie Droppers Anonymous Awards Dude  COG# 7010,a Tracey  CDA 120 (2.0)  99 Connie "Herrin Christabelle", 05 Ninja 250

I guess you've answered the question: "If a Connie falls to the right and there's no one there to hear it (see it either), has it really fallen over?"  If you get a CDA for that, then the answer must be "yes". ;)    Glad nothing was broken.

Well that takes a load off! I already knew the answer to the question of; If a man is standing in the forest & there isn't a woman there to hear him talk, is he still wrong? (my wife says "YES of course!")  Don  Don  Marysvile, WA  87  C10 170K & ready to go!

In physics, sound is just a vibration until heard by an ear, so the answer to the question of the falling tree is no, it doesn't.     As for why the bike fell on its right side, were there 100mph wind gusts with this snow? Connie's a pretty stout lady.

I think you should truly come up with a reason to blame yourself. Then only will you truly be on the road to recovery. :p    Bionic Bob  COG & AMA member  First C14 CDA member #0220  2008 C14 & 2003 Mean Streak
