Joining the club twice over...
« on: August 21, 2011, 12:00:29 am »
I just got my 2009 C14 in October of 2010, a beautiful Black ABS model.

I was leaving for the National and this was the first time I'd had her fully loaded with both bags and the top box loaded up.  It's also a heck of a lot heavier than my old CB750 when fully loaded.  I was at the gas station 1 block from the house at the beginning of the trip, started to pull her back onto the center stand, she got about 2/3 of the way up and came back forward and unfortunately leaned away from me and that was all she wrote.  Nothing I could do to stop it once it got past center and down she went.

The rest of the trip was awesome, the National was fantastic, the riding in VT was excellent (except for the frost heave, which if you were there you know what I mean!).

Then on the trip home, again at the first stop (again at a gas station, but this time just because riding partner needed a potty break), I made the mental error of stopping on a slight downward hill and putting down the side stand.  Well no sooner did I release the front brake did it roll forward 6 inches just far enough to clear the apex of the side stand and over she went.  And much to my disgust, on the opposite side of the initial drop.

No injuries except a twice bruised ego.  Never dropped a bike before and dropped my beautiful C14 twice in a week.

Here to collect my CDA number.   ???

Live and learn. Try not to point down hill. But if you have to. Keep it in first gear and let the bike roll forward until the motor stops the bike, before setting the kickstand on the ground.  I always practice this. That is until I brought my C14 home on a trailer. For some reason, I didn't put it in gear. Mine rolled off the stand also. But my C14 had   .2  miles on her.  >:(    So I feel your pain.  Welcome to the club. Just add an A after your number, to designate it being number 2. Yeah it sucks, but what else can you do other than have a little fun with it!  :)

Kevin, CDA0366.
Never use my center stand; (guess cuz I can't lift it myself!).
Fully loaded makes a BIG difference.
