Driveway dropped!@#$%^%#$%#!!
« on: November 08, 2013, 08:51:29 pm »
I blame it on the trash man...well sorta. I was rolling down the driveway and had to stop to kick the recycle bin out of the middle of the drive (hence the blame on the trash man), completely stopped, kicked the bin with my right foot and lost balance and over she went on the left side..just a very slow roll I didn't even realize it was happening until it was too late. After I dismounted, the first thing I did was look around to see if any of the neighbors saw me (most embarrassing) but luckily it was the middle of the day and I don't think anyone was home. Now comes the hard part. These things are HEAVY when you have a full tank of gas! Fortunately, the PO had added crash bars front and back plus highway pegs that took all the damage and didn't allow it to go all the way over, it just kind of sat there at about a 45 degree angle. The problem was it was headed down hill and as soon as I got it up off the bars it starts rolling! Too flustered to think about putting it in gear to stop the roll and unable to reach the brake while hoisting the thing up, I just sort of raised it up and chased it down to the street where it was level and I could get enough of me under it to get it upright. Now trying to look cool and collected (still not sure if anyone is watching) I check for damage and find the only thing hurt besides my ego is the left highway peg is turned inward just a little bit, no scrapes or dents whatsoever! Even the black paint on the bars is not scratched. Anyway, next time it's trash day I'll make sure the trash cans are out of the way before heading out.

Welcome to COG, Alan!  I once kicked a rolling barrel on the Interstate - never make THAT mistake again!  Glad to hear that only your pride was hurt and those bars prevented any damage to Connie.  She certainly is a top-heavy girl and you have to watch out for her.  And so it has now become my sad duty to confirm you as the 482nd recipient of the uncoveted Connie Droppers Anonymous Award.  You have yet another tale to share around a Rally campfire.  My sincerest condolences!

Thanks for the reply Chip. There is an old pilot saying about those pilots who forgot to put the landing gear down before landing and it may apply to dropping your bike, " Those that have and those that will". I am now one of those that have!

A big welcome from #478.  You aint the first, you aint the last, you're the latest (another aviation axiom).  Congratulations on joining our august organization with minimal damage/no witnesses: another plus!   :great:
