Sign me up CDA on First day owning my Connie

Purchased a low mile 2008 2 weeks ago and simply dropped at low speed trying to park the bike after driving home from the bike shop.  While slowing down and entering drive hit the front brakes just a little too hard and went off side of sidewalk adjacent to drive.  I lost my footing trying to regain balance and bike slowly rolled onto right side.  After riding a Vulcan for the past 6 years it's going to take me a while to get used to.

Some minor damage on case, faring but the mirror got the worse of it. Already got the replacement parts and touch up paint and a project for the rest of the winter.

Oh, and to make it all the more memorable my Wife, Dad, both kids, and my neighbor watched as this happened.  Will never live this one down.  :rotflmao:

Funny how it seems there's always an audience, isn't it?  A lot of folks are going to argue that this was a crash, not a drop, but I can just see this happening - you grabbed the brake after rolling off the curb and lost balance as you lost forward motion.  That moment of "parking lot speeds" is some of the most perilous time we spend on Connie.  I came from a Honda Shadow and it does take some getting used to.

I'm really glad you weren't hurt, and your incident does qualify you for the CDA Award except for one thing.

You need to be a full COG member.  Don't worry, we don't make you drop it again after you've joined in order to qualify!  Most folks join if they hang around a while and like what we do here, so just drop me a line after that happens and we'll add you to the roster.

Just to avoid confusion, here are the instructions: How to Convert from Forum Subscriber to Full COG Membership

I knew that it wouldn't take long, but I've got to admit I'm impressed with how fast that happened - way to go, Membership!

And so it has now become my sad duty to confirm you as the 424th recipient of the uncoveted Connie Droppers Anonymous Award.  You have yet another tale to share around a Rally campfire.  My sincerest condolences!

I almost forgot about and incident this past Spring.  Had my C10 stored for most of the winter, when I decided to ride to work one morning.  When I got to work, pulled into the parkng garage, and have to do a fairly sharp righty into the m/c parking area.  There is a large plastic trash can set close to the area I was pulling into.  When I pulled my front brake, it grabbed suddenly ( I suspect from being stored), and I stopped, and fell into the trash can.  Now THAT was embarrasing!

Yes, welcome to the club.

I did a "Day One Drop" too but luckily it was my 1981 Honda GL500.  I rode it home from Green Bay on a dark March night.  After 2 hours of riding, I get it to my driveway and forget to get my feet down fast enough BEFORE grabbing the brakes to stop completely.  Lost the right peg, right mirror and scratched the rightside bag that night.  Two weeks before replacement parts got her going again.  My first bike ever owned and I bent up her up the first day!  eesh. :-[
