Forum Authentication change scheduled for 6/12/2016
« on: May 30, 2016, 12:59:04 am »
Any user with an expired or pending membership account will be unable to log in to the forum after 6/12/2016

Forum login authentication is performed against the main COG database on the COGMOS system. An authentication security gap was discovered during a member audit that allows expired and pending account holders to have continues login access to the forum. The bug in the forum authentication module has been debugged, corrected and tested, and the plan is to roll out the new code on June 12, 2016

Once the change is rolled out, all users will need to have an active COG member or forum subscriber account to be able log into the forum. If the account is not active, the login will be rejected, resulting with the error message “Password security has recently been upgraded. Please enter your password again.

Forum subscriber memberships are still free, but they expire annually and renewal is required; either free or upgrade to full membership. Expired COG members must either renew membership or convert to forum subscriber to be able to login to the forum. Contact COG Membership if you are unable to renew or have questions.

Membership status is printed out as part of your profile on every post you make. if it says: "Membership Level Expired", after 6/12/2016 you will not be able to login until you renew.
