General Forum Rules

Welcome to the COG forum.

To keep the forums running well and to prevent problems, please follow these simple rules.   

Read up before asking!

Use the search function before posting.

Chances are your question has already been answered.

By posting anywhere on this forum, it is assumed all users have read and understand the following posting rules. In general, forum user conduct is expected to be consistent with the spirit of the Club Constitution & By-Laws to avoid charges of conduct unbecoming a member or being banned from the forum. Continued or blatant violation of these rules may result in a temporary or permanent ban.  COG reserves the right to move, edit, lock or delete topics. If you see a post which may violate the rules, please make use of the "Report to moderator" link provided in the post in question.  You may also provide your reasoning on how it violates the above rules. COG is an honorable body and as such you are asked to treat others respectfully and in a friendly manner.

1 -Civility. This is a non-negotiable. Whether you visit this forum as a forum subscriber or as a COG Member, you are still a guest. You are expected to be on your best behavior. Personal slights, insults or other forms of attack against other users will not be tolerated. It does not matter if someone else started it first! Like Mom used to say, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all!" So, mind your manners.

2 -Freedom of Speech does not exist here. This is a privately-owned forum and the First Amendment does not apply here. We encourage people to share their views, but it must be done considering the rule of civility. The Admin/Mods will edit, lock, or delete ANY offending threads/posts as they deem necessary. Trolling just to stir up controversy will not be tolerated.

3 –Any communications between forum administrators / moderation staff and forum subscribers/COG Members concerning moderation activities is privileged and shall not be posted into forum topics or any other social media without expressed written permission from the COG BoD. Questioning, harassing or attacking the club or club officers / forum administrators / moderation staff actions publicly may result in discipline which may include posting approval, suspension of posting privileges, or being permanently banned from the forum. Contact your Area Director or Forum Administrator if you have any questions regarding forum moderation practices or if you have a complaint.

4- Threads should remain on topic; please do not "hijack" topics. Such thread may be moderated / edited to keep on topic.

5- Do not open a new thread that duplicates a current topic. Moderators will merge duplicates.

6- Flame baiting, flaming, being abusive, disrespectful, trolling, spamming or posting to incite or annoy is inconsistent with the spirit of COG.  If you cannot make a positive contribution to the thread, just stay out of it. In the event of a thread being reported for any of the above, a moderator shall take appropriate action which may include, but not be limited to editing, deletion of individual messages or message threads.

7- Do not act as "back seat moderator," If you feel a post violates the forum rules, use the "Report to Moderator" link in the post to report it.   Failure to self-moderate upon request shall result in your thread being moderated or deleted.

8- Posting pornographic or generally offensive text, images, links, etc. will not be tolerated. This includes attempts to bypass the profanity filter.

9- Advertising - Any subscriber may advertise motorcycle related products and services in the relevant COG Mart section of the forum. Industry Members only may ‘reference’ their products/services in a relevant reply to a thread, any advertising should be done as an afterthought to providing members genuine help or assistance.

10- Linking - Linking to relevant motorcycle content on other websites and forums is permitted provided the link is accompanied by an explanation of the content found at the destination. Posts with links devoid of commentary will not be allowed (i.e. links, cut-n-pastes, clicky, read this...) Use good netiquette and inform readers if registration is required to view the content at the other site.

11- Subscribers are permitted to upload one of their own avatars. Avatars must be in good taste and consistent with the other rules of this board.
 
12- Signature Lines - Are to be no more than: 400 characters, 5 lines, and 2 images no greater than 75 pixels high. Industry Members may provide banner ads, and links to their services.

13- Blatant bumping - making a non-substantive post for the express purpose of bring the thread to the top of the thread list is discouraged.

14- Subscribers should post in a way which is consistent with "normal writing". Users should avoid excessive use of emoticons, large, small or colored text, etc. Photos are encouraged if they are relevant to the subject topic. Similarly users should not SHOUT or use excessive punctuation (e.g.! and ?) in topic titles or posts. Thread titles should be descriptive of the thread content."

15- Any thread or post that could be construed as promoting illegal activities is prohibited. This includes linking to sites that promote illegal activities, posting or linking to copyrighted material without permission of the owner.

16- Posts or threads that contain a political, racial, or religious agenda are expressly forbidden.

17- Registering with multiple accounts is not allowed.  An account with fake contact and registration information may be locked, deactivated, or deleted without notice.
