Back again....in Wisconsin
« on: March 12, 2017, 06:53:54 pm »
It's great to be back after many years.  I was a member back in '08-'09 when I bought my first C14, a brand new '08.  Rode that bike a few years, bone stock, and growing kids ate up all my time, blah, blah, blah.  Fast forward to last month and with my oldest about to head off to college, there is light at the end of the tunnel!  I started looking around for a new fix and found a very clean 2011 C14 ABS local (40 miles up the road in Madison) that I picked up for less than $7,000.  Bike only has 7,200 miles on the odometer and was always serviced.  Overall, I'm pumped.  It's still very much winter here, but I've pulled the trigger on a few new upgrades.  Picked up some bar risers (installed) and a RAM mount from Muphs Kits and am waiting on my Euro cut CB windscreen now.  Also, picked up a carbon TBR exhaust and installed that as well.  Don't miss that potato cannon.....

Alas, the next update I really want is cruise control.  Would love to know of any forum members in the greater Chicagoland / Milwaukee area that would be willing to tackle this for me.  Happy to pay someone to do this.  It's outside of my comfort zone.  Excited to see what adventures lie ahead, first big road trip will be with my brother and some friends down to Deals Gap, NC at the end of summer.  Lot's of riding to do between now and then!  Will post some photos as soon as I can get my gmail account and Outlook to cooperate with each other....damn IT!

Welcome.

As long as you are going to NC, swing by MD and have mattchewn do your cruise install. He's done a few. He's also one of maybe ten people I would let work on my bikes. And he is reasonable.
Yeah, if you want true ram air tuning, you better be willing to ram some air! (SiSF)

Welcome from Rock Co.
I have a business in Dane Co, and after riding a twin for too long, bumped up to Oh 12  c14 last year. Look up HOLSTEIN KITCHEN and stop by if you are around! Ask for Scott. Happy Trails!

Welcome!  FWIW, the end of July we will be having a North Carolina Rally in western NC.  dates will be July 27 to 30.  We will also have the annual Run With The Wolf September 7 to 10.  The location of that Is Two Wheels of Suches, in Suches GA.

if you can make either of those dates work with your group's schedule, it will add value to the trip by having a bunch of us clowns in one place to entertain you!

That second date would be a possibility.  We're looking at going there the week after Labor Day when all the squids are hopefully home or in the hospital.

Northwest Dane County here. Watch the calendar for the annual  Hunt for Red October ride.

And, of course, my favorite ride -- the Slimey Crud Run, on the first Sunday in May and October.

Curious, do you know if Peter Egan still attends and rides in those?  Hands down, IMHO, the best motorcycle writer.  I know he lives out near Evansville.

Egan, Hoyer and Riepe - if I could grow up to be like one of those guys . . .

Hey watch out for a temperamental Trooper in a Racine County Sheriff Ford Explorer. I took the ticket like a man but almost had to hug this guy to calm him down! He actually hand wrote me a letter thanking me for my 'courtesy on the side of the road' - yeah - I still got a $650 ticket. He just couldn't imagine how much safer it was to pass a bunch of trucks and heavy cruisers quickly instead of slowly. He said he'd been riding Harleys his whole life. Seriously, this guy isn't all there. I was scared! Also am pretty sure he was trying to get permission to arrest me. I cruise at 5 over but when it's time to pass a group on the right I just can't get over and sit there for 5 minutes passing them like a bread truck passing a UPS truck. Geez :truce:

I've heard that he does, though I've never personally seen him. Or, at least, recognized him.

Yeah, I think he lives near Evansville. I once had a thought about using the clues from his 3 books (Leanings/Leanings 2/Leanings 3) to try to pinpoint his location. But then I decided that'd be skirting the edge of creepy.

That's funny.  I think that would land you squarely in creepy.  I'm pretty sure I saw him about two years ago when I was pulling into the parking lot of the local Triumph dealership just off Highway 14 east of Janesville.  I know he's a die hard lover of all things English and rides/owns Triumphs.  At least the guy getting off the Triumph looked like the guy on the back cover of the various Leanings books (which I own all three like others here).
