Better Late Than Never?
« on: April 12, 2017, 02:18:04 am »
Greetings all.  I've been a forum subscriber (a.k.a. cheapskate) for a little over two years.  I picked up my 2006 Connie back in September of 2014 and have put about 20 K (very contented) miles on it since then.  I'm a little slow to pick up on forum etiquette.  I've posted a few things and replied to a few others.  I check the forum fairly regularly and find it both highly informative and at times extremely entertaining.  My most recent post on "Is there such a thing as a partial hydrolock?" has garnered some precious insight from the collective wisdom of the bunch and I appreciate it.  Before I post again in response to some of the replies, I wanted to set things straight: I feel bad for never having introduced myself to this online community.

As I implied...I'm kind of new to forums but I am learning from this - and the KLR.net forum as well.  It is obvious when someone takes his (or her) precious time in putting up a post or when replying to others.  The intent should be always to help and offer constructive advice and criticism and I have appreciated and benefited from the advice and suggestions from many of the 'regulars' on this forum.  Thank you.

Anyway...as for me  - I'm closing in on 60 years of age and love my Connie and my KLR.  Those two machines cover the spectrum for me.  I'm a microbiologist and teach at a small college in the Tidewater, VA area.  I've been riding bikes since I was 16 and know what I can and can't do in terms of riding, as well as wrenching.  I'm fortunate to have patient friends who are more skilled than I am in both of these arenas and who help me to learn a little more, all the time.

I've got a good ride planned for the coming week-end and thought I'd wait until get back (if I get back) to reply to my last post.  Until then - Happy Riding to one and all.  Thanks again!

Phil Rock

Welcome Phil,
There are many of us that have had the C10 and a KLR.  I traded both mine in to get the C14 last fall but I will miss the klr and may get back on after a time.  I waited about two years to join the club.  Its been years now that I have continued to learn, even from these iduts, and even call some friends.  Do all my own work now. Coming to the rallies is great.  Helping here feels good.  Being out on the bike is best.  Can't loose.

Thank you Bob!  Every time I think about selling the KLR I'm able to convince myself that I should keep it.

"Welcome" Phil. Better a Forum subscriber than not all, but that low,low membership fee is what pays for the Forum... So if (when) you get your $37 worth of help, maybe you can help someone else by becoming a paying member. (Plus-here's a secret: MORE info is available when you are a paying member...Heh, Heh, Heh....).

That's what happened with me. ONE valve adjustment savings of $300 'cause I did it myself and I felt like $37 was a DEAL!!!! Anyway, glad you're here.

Thank you all!  I will consider becoming a paying member Ron.  And Johnboy - I wouldn't argue that you are in a much prettier corner of the state!
