Hello and do I buy it?
« on: April 08, 2018, 11:13:00 pm »
New member here so hello. Found a 2001 Kawasaki Concours with about 35k miles owned my a Kawasaki mechanic. Says the only things are the carbs need to be cleaned. Agreed to $1k sight unseen so wanted opinions what to look for on it and what your opinions are. My bike experience is 5 years rider, currently have a Victory Hammer, owned Yamaha 250, Honda Shadow 500, and Kawasaki 600street bike. I'll try and show the 2 pictures I have for a little reference. Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you!

You gotta check it out a little more than that!

nothing more expensive than a cheap bike. Read up on hydrolocks and the tech pages here. These bikes are pretty bullet proof otherwise. But a thorough used bike check should be done.

Is it rideable?
Check inside tank for visible rust. Feel around bottom edges of tank for paint bubbling but be careful not to break any bubbles.
If he is a Kawi mechanic it may be possible to do a bent rod test.
Should set aside funds to send carbs to Steve in Sunny Florida.
Check body panels for drop damage, especially around front turn signals.
Check tires for date codes and wear, good tires will save you a couple hundred right off the bat.
Where in the NE is the bike/you? Someone may be close to have a look with/for you.
Check the sticky at the top of C10 section, maintenance and the new owner.

I'm in upstate NY in Johnstown. I've watched Steve's YouTube videos on hydrolock and bent rod tests so I'll ask the guy tomorrow a little more. Other than that going to do an obvious walk around and check on it because I can still walk away if anything is glaring.
