Hi all!
« on: May 20, 2009, 02:47:00 am »
After 15 years away from the sport I'm back with a new (2008)Concours 14 and its awesome.  What a sweet bike.  I sold my last bike (a 1987 750 Nija) in 1994 so I could raise enough money to buy an engagement ring for my then to be wife (it was worth it).  Now 3 kids later, I've taken the plunge with this extreme machine.  I'm a little rusty but I can definitely say that this is one well balance beast.  It handles beautifully and is very comfortable for my 6'2" 228lb frame and is smooth as silk.  It may not be as fast to transition from side to side as my old 600, but it makes up for it in stability that my 56 year old boby really appreciates.  Some of the issues I heard about are really non issues so far:  Exessive heat - the last couple of nights have been around 50 degrees or lower and the heat has not been an issue.  Last friday,. it was warm out and I could fel the heat of the engine wafting from the faring. Nothing so far that takes points away; the mirrors are just fine and provide very adequate view ot the rear.  The sheild may have to go and a larger one brought in as replace ment, but i'll reserve judgement for a while to get used to the stock gear.  The Kipass is great (why did people say that it bothered them?  Maybe they didn't use it).  Somethng abot the size of the tank - who ares.  Don't recall other complaints but dont' care.  Oh,the exhaust isn't so bad once you get used to it and actually commpliments the 2008 silver (did I mention I got a great deal and so I'm going wild buying gear - how can I get my shoie shield to stop fogging?)  Anyway, I love this bike and would love to be part of this group of riders.  Hi all!

Dana,  Welcome to Connie ownership!!  Although mine's an '04 I do like the style of the newest ones.     I see in your profile that you live on the Island,  me too - out east - and work just up the road from Syosset.    Good luck with the bike - Congratulations!  Sean B    '04 Connie     NYBKX, AMA, IBA, COG # 5993  http://odmp.org  http://community.webshots.com/user/seanb68  "Everybody dies - not everybody really lives"  1*

Welcome Dana...  You will find you have numerous opportunities to be part of COG activities. The northeast area is very active... just check out the calendar of events online or in the Northeast Newsletter.  The COG National rally is in a few weeks at Fontana Village Resort, NC, and there will be several hundred in attendance.  You may also want to consider the COG Northeast regional fall rally in September in Wellsboro, PA.      --  Steve Smith, COG #3184  COG Northeast Area Director  (somewhere in south central CT)     If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.

Welcome aboard!     Lots of snake oils recommended for shield fogging but the oldest dish soap on the inside of the shield, polished smooth.

Paulie, you bet I'm brushing up on the skills; I'm trying to stay in one piece.  Bret, thanks for the advice on the dish soap.  I bought some anti fog spray but have yet to try it.  If that doesn't work (guy at the shop swore by it) I'll try the soap trick.  My other big problem is trying to get a pair of decent boots.  Its probably me but I ordered 2 different pairs of boots from the motorcycle superstore and sent them both back.  So big and ugly.  Very difficult to buy boots over the internet and the selection in the shop is limited (in styles and sizes). Anyone have ideas on a decent boot that doesn't double as a ski boot?  I was looking at the Sidi Champion airs as they didn't look too bulky.  I need to see if I can find a store on Long Island that carries them.  If I order and return another pair of boots I may be banned form internet purchase for good.

I wear these from NewEnough.com.  TCX X-Five  Waterproof and very comfortable. NewEnough has fantastic customer service and a very good return policy, if I need something and they sell it, they get my business.    I also have a pair of Alpinestar Ridge boots.  Also waterproof and comfortable.  They're a bit warm for the summer though and they are a physically larger boot than the X-Fives.  Putting both pairs side by side you wouldn't believe they were both for the same size feet.    If you find a good store here on the Island, please post it up...
