Looking to buy a ZG1000?
« on: November 16, 2018, 08:23:11 am »
What do you think about this? https://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/mcy/d/2003-kawasaki-concours-zg1000/6744636813.html

Really cheap.  Claims he has service records.  Seller seems a little weird though, only emails.  Why is the bike painted black instead of red? Odd.  Looking for something to commute on really.  Just started working as a service advisor at SFMOTO a month ago.  Currently own a 2015 ZX6R and a 1999 KX125.

Something else weird...  I see aftermarket mirror and the OEM mirrors are missing.

I saw that too.

Also saw the rider has Crocs on?! He said the previous owner changed the paint. Not sure why the OEM mirrors are gone :/

The paint change and mirrors could just be the previous owners customization. The paint, at least from the pictures, looks reasonably well done and I kind of like it. There is a decent gloss which suggests a base with a clear perhaps. The aftermarket mirror are mounted to the oem mirror base. The oem mirrors are known to get loose and droop so this could be a solution for that or maybe it was a mod that helped a taller person see better. Of course those particular mods are also common with a drop or other incident. But the cans and bags look good so who knows.

The other good I see is the rifle windshield and a fork brace. Those are both quality farkles and suggest a certain level of care but generally add no value at resale.

The only way to know for sure about any of this is get up close and personal with the bike. $1500 would be a good deal if it checks out in my opinion.

Looks good. At 45k it is no garage queen. I would jump on it.

For $1500 I'd give it a look too.
Not sure if it's black or a dark grey with a clear coat?
The last picture shows the bottom of the fairing is black the upper is a slightly lighter color.
Has a Rifle Fairing, fork brace, petcock, and SS brake lines.
Apparently it has a throttle lock on it too. (May be a Throttle Meister)
Recent maintenance including carb work and valve adjust.
All are signs that the bike has been taken care of...

Stock mirrors could probably be reinstalled...

Ride safe, Ted

Thanks! What’s the difference with the rifle windscreen?

It's supposed to allow air to flow under and up the backside of the windshield to reduce buffeting. It's a very popular accessory, though I've never ridden a bike with one.

Looks like emblems were removed from tank maybe another sign of repair. Look inside tank with flashlight for rust and repairs from any drops/collision. Look for dents in the tank where the inner fairing starts at the top left and right sides near the speedo.
