Title: New C14 Owner in Texas
Post by: khager01 on July 02, 2017, 04:39:10 pm
New C14 owner here in Granbury, TX about 45 min SW of Fort Worth.  Brand new 2017 in the prettiest color Blue of course.   I have been riding V-Stroms  for the last 10 years currently have a 2012 DL650 also.  What can I say this motor is exceptionally smooooottttthhhh.  It is going to be tough to adhere to the break-in recommendations.  Oh and the brakes  are top notch,  I have to get used to that,  You have to grab a lot of brake on the Strom if you want to slow down in a hurry.  Do that on the Connie and it feels like you are going to go over the handlebars.  :-\.  Only have about 150 miles on it so far,  went for a ride this morning but unfortunately it is July here in Texas, so it's going to take awhile to break it in this time of year.

Lots of learning to do.  The first order will be getting some Canyon Cages, thinking MC Enterprises, before I get my CDA.;D   I seen one thread where somebody said the rear luggage bars had cracked their sub-frame is this a common issue or concern?  Should I forgo the rear bars?  Lots of questions but I will have to do some searching here or maybe post a new thread if I have to.

Welcome, Kevin! That is a gorgeous blue, indeed.

I have the MC Enterprises rear bag guards on my '15 C14 and have had no issues with them at all. The protection is great to have.

If I remember correctly, the Revolver Brewing Company is in Granbury, isn't it? I'd like to ride down there sometime and take a tour.

Welcome Kevin.
Don't scream it, but don't break in too gently.
Load will seat the rings... (Read about it and you'll see)

Come ride with us..

Ride safe, Ted

Kevin,
The rear cages MAY crack the rear subframe if you have a significant tipper or low side. They wont crack the frame from installation only.
I was the one that posted about it and I repaired the crack in the subframe.

Yeah, maybe SISF should offer a 2fer...I checked and mine has not been done but had nothing to compare it to. Seems smooth, seems powerful.
But this is about the OP and his challenge to manage run in during the summer heat. Stay hydrated, use the evaporative cooling help of a wet tee shirt, and get =er done in one weekend!

Thanks for the replys everyone.  Yes Jim, Revolver Brewing is down here in Granbury.  I haven't done a tour of the brewery yet but I understand they do them every Sat.  Love the Blood and Honey! :beerchug:

I just ordered a set of MC Enterprises Canyon Cages  front and rear off of eBay for $346  should be here friday.  I see a few people have had problems but hopefully the install will go easy.

Looked like a killer deal!

Now if somebody could just Teleport me and Connie to the Colorado Rockies I could get this fine machine broken in! :great:

Again thanks for the welcome

Kevin

Welcome Kevin.  I lived in Granbury and sold lake lots there in the mid 70's.  Comanche Harbor and Ports O Call first and then included Comanche Cove when it opened.  The company I worked for also was selling for Arrowhead Shores and a few others on Lake Granbury. At that time Brown & Root was (still) building the powerplant at Glen Rose and the Pecan Plantation was the premier area on the lake.

Anyway, I used to know the area well.  I still travel near there on my way to visit my kids in Roanoke, near Denton.  I hope to see you in Kerrville next summer.  It'll be a hoot fer sure.

Rev Ryder I am in the Bentwater subdivision Northeast of town, not sure if it was here in the 70's most of these house are newer than that.

Hello from another new owner.  I love the new blue, but got a deal I couldn't pass up on a left over 2015 in black.  As you said, it is difficult restraining myself to break it in according to the owner's manual (not trying to start a break-in debate, I'm following the manual), but that may be keeping me out of trouble somewhat.
