New Concours 14 owner
« on: June 20, 2019, 01:38:25 am »
Hello everyone! Just joined the board today as I am now a proud owner of a 2010 Concours 14 ABS! Bike looks new and has only 2800 miles!  :)

It came only with the active FOB and it might need a new front tire but other than that there was nothing wrong I could find in it.

I hear some noise by the fork area while riding low speed that sounds like ball bearing but since I am not familiar with the bike I will keep researching.

I am reading all the posts but any recommendation is also appreciated.

Regards

Dan

Welcome. And I would get another fob as soon as possible. It should have come with 2 fobs.

WELCOME. Sound up front could be the ABS activating ring if you are not familiar with it, or loose fender bolts, mine almost came off and one fastener was missing wen I first got my 2013.

Thank you folks, I just set up an appointment on my local Kawa dealer, I will be getting a new passive fob and programming plus a service to replace Diff oil, check all nuts/bolts, lube. etc. I will mention that front end noise.

I do change the oil on my Nomad 1600 so I think I can do it on the Concours as well and save some bucks!

Welcome,  I would replace both tires.  A 9 yo+ tire will be dry rotting and not safe on the road.  I have a 2010 also.  I love that blue.

Thank you guys!

I owned a 2007 FJR in the past and it was a nice bike, similar to the GTR but the Concours feels more refined.

What I am really finding odd is that roaring/grinding noise coming from the front wheel area while riding, it sounds to me like the bearings are shot or dry or like got sand in it, it gets worse after 5 mins riding and also louder under cornering as when you put more weight/pressure in the fork. The more speed increases the louder it gets.

I starting to think it could be tire related and I am considering replacing them but I want the Pilots 4 or 5 and they not cheap....

Check pads and rotors, take all that stuff apart, front wheel is easy enough.

Welcome to the group.  Any questions and concerns you have, the people in the forum will be more than happy to help you.  You've already seen that in regards to your front tire concern.  Have fun.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome, you guys are great! Connie is now ready to go and I riding it to work basically every day.

So far I have done:
oil/ filter/ tires changed and balanced, front wheel bearing, all bolts checked and tightened as needed, checked all lube points.
New set of keys (3 including the stove knob ) and passive FOB ($125 with cut and programming),
LED H4 headlights and very bright LED on the directionals. (Found ones that does n ot need the relay)

Almost got pushed off the highway yesterday by a cager now I know I need upgrade the horns  ;)

Ride safe!

Agree that the National is too close to pass up. Is there a radiator guard?  They can buzz  and make noise you can hear at low speeds.
