New guy frm Las Vegas with an FJR1300
« on: September 20, 2017, 10:50:48 pm »
I recently sold a Bandit 1200 and picked up a 2011 FJR1300 :truce: after considering the Concours (of course), the ST1300, the ZZRX1200, and then the FJR.
It never would have occurred to me to join up here, but a Concours rider joining an FJR forum suggested it, since we're using similar bikes for similar riding.
With riders spread out all over the country and farther, it seemed like a good idea to meet other like-minded riders locally, regardless of manufacturer.

In hopes of partially redeeming myself, I do have a ZRX1100 as well.

They take all kinds here, even me, so you should be welcomed. Nice ride and really nice ZRX, I had an '03 1200 for a while and recently tried to score an 06.

That front end does look familiar!!   I made the mistake of test-riding a buddy's Yamaha R6, and fell in love with his front brakes, so i set out to do the best I could with my front brakes.
I upgraded to EBC HH pads, put SS lines on, and bolted on chinese wave rotors... over 2 years ago.
Now I've got brakes that stop like a brick wall, and I totally love the wave rotors.  (in pic above)

Thanks, I probably won't make Kernville but Prescott sounds promising!!
The GF and I trucked my ZRX down there a couple of years ago for the 4th of July rodeo- the ZRX isn't a comfy passenger bike so that was our compromise.  We rode to Sedona and a few other places that weekend, nice area!!!

What's the best way for me to keep up with local rides and things?

Welcome.
I also have a Yammie in the garage and I think you'll find lots of nice folks here who manage to look the other way when you ride a non-Connie (though you may find then Photoshopping your bike out of group shots!!!  :great:  )

For keeping up with events, best place to check is the events page for the Southwest Region: http://forum.cog-online.org/southwest-events/

You may also want to consider joining COG and becoming a member, as then you'll get the quarterly print magazine and regional emailed newsletters that highlight upcoming rides. I get no commission for this plug, but it does help keep apprised.

Cheers

Thanks!! Is it cool for me to add non-COG events there too??  Seems like there's a local ride to Oatman coming up soon.  I haven't been there since they repaved it- it was terrible before with the cheese grater roads running from 40 into town, but I heard it's pretty nice now.

PM me the details and we can add as a non COG event you bet.

if you have never ridden a C10, the OEM brakes are basically like two blocks of wood rubbing on the rotors.  worthless is an understatement.  the ZRX 6 pistons are terrific.  but some have used the 1200 front end with the 4 pot version and those are very good too.
