New guy from KS
« on: January 16, 2018, 09:15:27 pm »
I've owned several Kawasaki's in the past (82 CSR 250, 82 KZ750, 01 Vulcan 800) but never a Connie. A friend is making me a deal on this 2001 that I can't refuse. I haven't paid him yet, but it's currently in my garage. It needs a little cosmetic work since the lower fairing got broken off when he pulled into his garage recently. The motor was completely gone through last summer and purrs like a kitten for having just over 81K on it. It also has less than 200 miles on the new tires. I need to clean it up and see about finding some antler covers and maybe a clear windshield as I'm not a fan of the tinted one on there. I figure I could do a lot worse for $500.

Congrats on the bike.
Don't worry about the tint as you look over / not thru it.

Only 1 little problem.
  That's not a 2003.

Thanks guys. I rode it a couple of times last summer and was looking to get my own. The wife shut that idea down at the time. When I found out my buddy was selling it, I got excited. Then he threw out the price and I almost fainted.

I stand corrected, it’s a 2001. I thought for sure he told me it was an 03.

Good to hear. I’m about an hour south down I-35. If you MO guys ever make it down to Guy and Maes, I’m about 15 minutes from there. Oh and, Rock Chalk Jayhawk.

Hi Todd,
Yea, get those antler covers fast before you find that the side cases come in handy and you get used to having them. I had the same intentions of putting on the covers when I got my Connie but......

If you get a clear shield, you may want to think about cutting the tinted one down for close to home summer riding.

since I have a top case, I actually ride a lot without the side cases and use my antler covers.   :nananana:

Welcome Todd!

Bob, I agree -- ever since I got my topcase I keep telling my self I'm going to take off the side cases and store them, but they do come in handy a lot.  I think if I order a pair of helmet locks for the rear that would make a difference.  Right now if I'm out 2 up running errands if I want to stow both helmets in the topcase then I need the sidecases for other cargo.

Justa thought;
I drilled holes thru my antler covers so that I can have them on the bike with the antler's in place.
I think it looks a lot smoother than just the antlers sticking out.
With this done, I don't have to remove the antlers when I don't want to attach the bags, and I can always use the bags when I want...

Ride safe, Ted
