New Owner in St. Louis
« on: August 27, 2019, 06:02:54 pm »
Hi. Just bought a blue 01 Concours 1000 and couldn't be happier. Rode it from Dittmer to st. Louis. My hands were a bit numb, so I'm hoping that's normal.

Looking for fellow Connie riders in the st. Louis area, as I have a few questions about the quirks of our bikes and might need a hand wrenching if I ever get in over my head. Also, looking for a mechanic who knows these machines if the need should ever arise.

I am also looking for a service manual to buy, if anyone has one for sale, and was wondering which is the best one to have.
I will be searching my arse off, but figured this would be a good place to throw that out there!

Looks like a nice community you have here, and I'm glad to be the newest member of it all!

Hi BigAl,
Hands getting numb is usually just gripping to tight and will be better once you relax.  It also helps a lot to use gel padded gloves.  If the bike is not smooth to the point of hand numbness you need a tuneup or something.  My C10 vibed a lot but not the C14.

 :welcome: aboard!

Come down for the Spider ride in Steelville in a few weeks. It's on the nc calendar. You can meet lots of fellow riders there. Should be a fairly short ride for you.

Fred Harmon is a very good mechanic, you can't go wrong with him. He's in Mountain Home, AR. I'm guessing 4 - 5 hrs. south of you.

By the way your region should be north central.  :)

What Cliff Said.  One of the best rides around is the Spider Ride

http://www.cog-online.org/ClubPortal/EventDisplayNew.cfm?clubID=1328&eventID=256447

You will meet all kinds of great folks.  If you like to camp, it has that.  They do have cabins if that is more your thing, or if you want a hotel, there is some options back in Cuba and/or St. James.

You will find a bunch of STL riders are going to be at this.  You have perfect timing!!!

Here are my photos from last year.

Here is the current thread

I have been waffeling on my attendance.  I just started a new job, so I am not supposed to take vacation in the first 6 months... I might ask for an exception.  :)

Welcome Big Al. Your gonna like it here!  Come ride with us!

Another aide to the vibration is different grips.
Murph sells a set that work perfectly.
I'll try to dig up that info.

Looks like fun! I might just call in to work one day so I can go! I don't know how to change my region, maybe a mod can do it somehow. But I will keep that in mind when browsing events!
