New owner of a 94' C-10
« on: July 21, 2017, 01:34:13 am »
Hi my name is Kelly and I just bought a 94' Concours with 26k on it. Last year I brought an 84' Honda Sabre 700 with 24k on it back from the dead and  After a recent 4 day trip I realized that it is too small for a two week+ run even though it has the tour pack. my friend rides an 04' FJR1300 and I needed something that could run with him all day without working so hard and I am on a budget. After some thought it hit me, a first gen 94' and up Concours. I never even looked at anything else.
The bike I bought has been dropped once and the left mirror was replaced but there is a piece of fairing missing along the turn signal. It is all stock and had a major service done at 22k, 4 years and 4k miles ago. Right now it sits on 14 year old totally cracked tires and the brakes are paper thin. I have tires, brake pads, throttle cables, air and oil filters, wheel bearings and a petcock rebuild kit on order. Future parts include a Cee Baily windscreen, a fork brace(not sure which one yet), a C-14 shock and possibly a different seat(I am 5' 6").
I ride pretty hard and am looking forward to seeing what this bike can do. If there are any of you guy's out there around Stanwood it would be nice to have somebody that can look it over like I can look over a Honda. Give me a shout if you are in the area. Thanks in advance.

Welcome and you got a great bike. This forum is a great place to bring your bike up to date. Does your bike start and run?

I bought mine (2001) with cracked old tires and clogged carbs.

And finally, are you a man or a woman, Kelly? I only ask because guys are calling themselves Kelly and Courtney nowadays! :-[

Hello Kelly and welcome to COG!  Congratulations on the C-10, these are fine bikes for touring and lots of fun.  My previous bike was a C-10, but I traded it in on a C-14 last year.  I'm about 20 miles away in Lake Stevens and would be willing to look over your C-10 this weekend.  Look for a PM with my contact information.

Welcome Kelly, and congrats on the C10. I also had a '94 and I put 98k miles on her before selling to her newest owner. Super reliable bike.
I also put on a fork brace, which along with with new tires made a huge difference.
Swapping out or shaving down the seat sounds like a good idea. I have a couple inches on you and still felt like the seat was high (for such a heavy bike). I'm sure you'll get it sorted.
Cheers and hope you get out their with some of the NW folk.

Hey Kelly,

Welcome, you'll love the bike, and the group....well...you'll learn to love us! ;)   I'm 5'7", with a 30inch inseam. I've had a few Connies. One was lowered. Around town it was great, but sucked out in the curves if you ride hard. I'd much rather fight the height while parking and have the ground clearance when it's really important (halfway through a curve at 55mph).

What is your riding styles? Commuter, Weekend Group Rider, Bag Dragger, or SightSee'r ?

Hey, I used to be 5'7" till I broke my back. Lost an inch in a split second. :-\ I was not considering lowering links because I guess I am a Bag Dragger. :) I really like to show the sport bike guys what the bags on my Sabre look like from behind. >:D I have talked to a few people now and I think the plan is a fork brace, ZZR1200 shock, the shortest Cee Baily windscreen and do somthing with the seat, I know a good shop in Seattle. At least I can get it onto the centerstand now. :great:
