I've just recently joined COG. Glad to be here. Lots of reading to catch up on.   I'm flying down to Alabama to pick up my (new to me) 2004 Connie. After the bike my first stop will be walmart for a tent, sleepingbag and pillow. I'm pumped.   I've owned a 1975 Honda CB350, 1980 Yamaha XS400 & still currently own a 1981 Yamaha XV750 & a 1982 Yamaha XJ550. Doin' alright for a 25yr old husband and father excpecting my fourth Child. My wife's awesome. Just got to get her off the back and on her own bike!  Lorne  Ps. It's Saskatchewan

It takes lots of imagination, scheming and an amazing woman. I also work on the road and plan to take the Connie.     The route I plan to take home from Alabama:  Starting In Falkville I'll head toward Kansas City, then to Alliance Nebraska and up to Rushmore and the Sturgis area I go. After that It's a straight ride north through the prairies (Williston ND, Weyburn SK, & home to Saskatoon). I'm flying down on Sat. July 25 & hope to be back in time for my grandparents 50th anniversary on Sat. August 1. The trip on googlemaps shows to be 3,443Km/2,140Mi. We'll see how she go's. I bought a mount for my camcorder and hope to get a few good shots for a youtube video. I have no idea how to do any of that computer stuff, but there's a first for everything!    Just took my old yamaha's out to a church camp last night. Sure wish I had my conny on the way back. Knees got pretty chilly. We haven't had much of a summer up here. It snowed in May and has been rainy and cold since. We've had over a decade of drought and now too much rain. Go figure.:-)

Welcome Grizzly! I'm new here too! What a way to start off with your new bike! I'm jealous...    I'm in the Memphis area and if you have any issues in my neighborhood, give me a call and I'll do whatever I can to help. I tried to PM you to get you my number but, it says you have that feature disabled. PM me or e-mail me at the_rotund_1@yahoo.com .    Good luck and a pleasant ride/adventure...

Well I leave in 2 days, on Sat July 25th. I'll arrive around 5pm. I hear it's Wickedly hot down there with 90% humidity. All the wind protection will be nice in Canada but I think I'm gonna cook down there. I sure am excited about being there though. I wish I new where one of those southern black churches with the funky music was. That'd be a cool experience.   I'm sure I'll have lots'a pics and video clips by the time I get back. I'll be relying on advice to figure out how to post them though. I'd like to try to make one of those youtube video's if I can figure out how.   If anyone lives near Scottsbluff Nebraska, Sturgis South Dakota, or Williston Noth Dakota and would like to share an emergency number for just in case, it would be greatly appreciated.  Also if anyone has any reccommended routes along my way I'd greatly appreciated it.    Ps. I wish there was spell check on here. ;-)  Grizzly

I made it back on Friday night at 10:45pm with a total of 2620m/4218Km for my trip. What a wonderful time I had, minus the time I dropped it in a gravel parking lot. I guess I'll have to join the Connie droppers anonymous one day. Unfortunatly My camara mount didn't fit on my handlebars, my GPS quit working b4 my trip and my computer is broken. So until I get it fixed I won't be able to reply as often. It's currently getting fixed. Although I didn't get many good driving shots. I said a little something each evening and some of the many wonderful people I'd met along the way volunteer'd to say hi to the camcorder. So I now need to figure out how to put it onto the computer.    I plan to put a windscreen on as mine is cut down really short, put 1" bar risers on and replace my broken mirror. Over all: What a comfortable, fun, quiet and smooth ride. My wife loves it too. Planning to go through banff and Jasper this summer if possible. Will try to get that camara mount working by then.  Hope all's well on your end!  Griz    Ps. Every one I met along the way fed me something or at least offered me coffee. My food bill was extremely cheep. :-) What a blessing!  Grizzly

Thanks guys. Now that it's freezing up here I'm not riding near so much:-(  And before too long work should be slowing down. I still need to figure out how to get the video of that little tape and on to my computer. I guess I'll have to visit my friendly neighbourhood electronics store.     I didn't make it to Jasper yet unfortunatly, but am thinking of heading to victoria next year. Big plans ;-) I'd really like to join you all @ the COG Rally, but I am in discussions with my wife about it, as it falls on the same week as family camp at our church camp.      The adventure was really terrific and the video turned out quite well. I'm told by my greatest critic that it is easy and interesting to watch. I'd like to write something down about it but just haven't been willing to devote the time yet. I think that I will likely be on here much more in the winter months as any moment that is not spoken for is spent riding.    Take care,    Grizzly      Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. Hi Griz...    I just bought a Connie on 9/25/09.  I live in South Central Pennsylvania, I flew to Columbia, South Carolina and rode my first 630 miles in two and a half days...in the rain.  Not near the adventure you took on, but the Connie is a really neat ride.  I have put on almost 3000 miles in 5 weeks.    The funny part is, I just flew into Saskatoon this afternoon (11/3/09) and am setting up an environmental soil cleanup system at the Lawson Heights Mall parking lot.  How about that?  I will be here until the 8th or 9th of November.    Rick
