newb in south fl with an 04
« on: July 01, 2017, 02:26:51 am »
hey all! just thought id drop a line here. just picked up my 04 2 weeks ago from a retired vietnam vet who can no longer hold the bike up.

the bike is pretty nice and does need some tires and probably some suspension work, but all in all a nice bike. funny but ive owned a ZL1000 and a ninja 1000 over the years, but new to the concours. so far pretty cool and very heavy! lol

Welcome newb.

As far as the Steve thing goes, we really could use a few more, especially now that I'm a part timer. Gonna be in the Northwet for another six weeks or so.

On TDY in Salmo BC for one more day of riding, then off to Yoho Park.

Welcome! I've got an '04 :great: as well, and it's the fastest color.  :motonoises:

Yes, it's heavy and especially top-heavy when full of gas. Practice some slow speed turns in a parking lot to get used to it (then rinse and repeat every so often). Best technique is to leave the front brake alone and develop the habit of only using the rear brake at slower speeds.

There's a lot of invaluable advice here in the forum, and even more available in the member-only library to help you maintain and improve the bike (hint: join COG! Great return on investment). Watch the events calendar for opportunities to come out and meet the rest of the loony bin. It's a great group. Sometimes we snap, but we don't bite. :)

Welcome Dave!! I'm your SE Area Director and I wanted to chime in to welcome you.

Florida is just RIDDLED with COG'gers and the Connie is an amazing machine. This month's Rider magazine has a look back at it, so we're not the only ones who know about "the secret sauce." Glad you found it AND us. ;)

Check the calendar and meet some of the Floridiuns. Pretty cool bunch even if they do have to come up to my area (N. Ga) to scrub in tires...  :))

We're working on building the club in general and our area in particular, so if you like what you see, you'll like it even MORE when you join up. The library for club members is AMAZING and you can spend hours reading and absorbing Connie stuff (ask me how I know..).  It's what pushed me over the edge to join the club and then "I stayed for the people." How about that?

We've got stuff to do coming up, so check the calendar and come to something. We all want to meet you.

Ron

Welcome Dave.
I want to apologize in advance for the Florida bunch.  Particularly the Florida Steve's.. >:D
        I think we're up to 6 or 8 Florida Steve's now??

Be very careful when you deal with them.
They'll have you adding farkles to your C-10 shortly!

Warning; One of the Steve's is known to sell C-10 parts and accessories that will make it faster/smoother/and almost as good looking as mine. (almost)   :-\

See ya on the road.

Ride safe, Ted

thanks for the warm welcome!  :beerchug:

its tough to get out and ride down here this time of year, since its blistering hot outside and i just want to get in the turquoise water!
i may be installing the little mod to help with removing the broiling feeling on my legs so i can do more riding.

Somewhere in the forum discussions; a few have recently added a deflector to their C-10's.
Supposedly it helps the heat quite a bit.
I'll try to find the discussion.

I've never notice a heat problem on mine. Nice and cool here in Houston...   ;)

Hi Dave, and welcome.
Where in Florida are you?  I think there's enough of us that you'll be near some; I'm in Jax.
Look for ride-to-eat (RTE) events, that will give you an excuse to ride, and a chance to meet some of the COG folks.
As others have said, don't be afraid to ask questions.

Baker AirWings are the ticket. I used some China knock offs. It helped a bunch.

On TDY at Yoho Park in BC looking for a rear tire to replace the new one that I've worn out already. Yeehaw.

Hi Steve, hope your trip is going good.

I'll be the dumb blonde in the group. What the heck is TDY?

Sailor_chic, you should know that with your job, and name...
It's a Military acronym.
Not sure of exact wording.
But basically it means "Temporary Duty".

I never hear anything that nice at work. Usually its some, or rather multiple negative comments, coming from a grumpy captain that hates his job, and makes sure that no one else on the boat is enjoying theirs. Most of his sentences start with " What the F**k, ....

You got the answer to the TDY question, but the trip is marvelous. BC should be on every rider's bucket list. Getting the bike's oil changed and fresh rubber tomorrow. I've worn out a brand new when I left rear and the front is almost done. Angels going on. Yeehaw.

On TDY at Mount Cathedral near Lake Louise Alberta. I know this is in the wrong spot for a reply but I don't wanna retype it all. Later, and heal well.
