Newbie here from the PNW
« on: June 29, 2018, 04:01:29 pm »
Hi everyone,
After looking at dozens and dozens of bikes (or so it seems) lately, I came home with an '06 Concours last night. The ride home was smooth and enjoyable, and she looks like she's in decent shape. Maybe not showroom-perfect, but still looks good to me.
I had heard that these bikes were reliable and relatively easy to work on, so that was also a bonus to me. I've done basic car mechanics on my own for years. You know, things like oil changes, starters, water pumps, alternators, etc. and while I'm no professional mechanic, I like to think I understand the basics pretty well.
After spending time in the forums here last night, I am now bordering on the paranoid side about hydrolock. Just how common is this? Should I be as panicked as I feel right now? I filled the fuel tank when I bought it last night and rode it home about 30 miles, and this morning the tank seems like it's lower than I think it should be, but maybe I didn't actually fill it all the way last night in the first place. She spent the night inside my garage, and when I came out this morning there was no fuel puddle, and I didn't smell any fuel, so maybe I should just relax a little? Are there warning signs or symptoms I should be looking for?
Thanks for any tips, advice, thoughts, etc.
I've heard the COG is the place to be.

Welcome to COG Jim,

Grats on your new ride. The C10s are great bikes and this is the place to find help if you need it, maybe not from me cause I ride a C14.:motonoises:
I am the NW area director so if you have other questions about COG or the forum shoot me an email and I will help you out the best I can.

Hope you get some miles on the new scoot soon,

 Hello Jim.
 :welcome:
I serve as one of the WA state asst area directors. Please fell free to contact me for any reason. I did not notice what state you live in the PNW.
I have logged over 300k mi on 4 c10's since 1997. No hydrolock for me but it is an issue for a few. My current 03 has the overflow tubes installed by the former owner.
Keeping fresh fuel and riding often is the first rule IMO to keeping the carbs working properly. Like in clean.
Looking fwd to seeing you at a COG event. Keep an eye on the calendar.

Welcome Jim,

I ride a C14 so I cannot help with the hydrolock issue. This forum has lots of great minds that will likely comment on your question. Happy riding and hopefully we will see you at a ride.

Jim, Congrats on the C14 and welcome to the COG forum. Like Grant said there is a great bunch of guys and gals that ride Connie's here in the PMW. I like riding with this group and call many my friends. There are some who know the C10 rather well.  Check the calendar and find something you might want to attend. Bob's IHOP is a good one if you want to go Island hopping. Like others have said any questions please feel free to ask. Tim

Hi Jim & welcome to COG from Steve in Lake Stevens WA!
Congratulations on the 2006.  I had a 2006 until I traded for a 2016 a couple years ago, I do like that dark blue color.  I wonder if you have my old bike!  Hope to see you on a ride this year.
