Not sure how I overlooked this board
« on: January 09, 2014, 12:12:49 am »
I suppose going straight to the "I dropped my bike" board felt like penance I needed to perform ;P

Intending to do some suspension adjustment soon and getting in for my initial oil change tomorrow morning.

I work in the IT field but aspire toward creative fields like architecture.  In my spare time I indulge in a number of artistic pursuits, including writing, sketching/drawing, and architecture-for-fun (modeling, no building)

My dad owned a few bikes while I was growing up, starting with a Yamaha Venture and moving to a Honda Goldwing GL1500.  There's a pretty good chance that's part of where my fixation came from ;)  Really though, I started mountain biking heavily before I tried my first motorcycle.  At this point I really enjoy riding for fun, and even love commuting by bike - it makes for a better day.  I've been riding since 2006, on the Z750S mentioned above, but wanted a better bike for two-up riding to zip around with my wife and handle trips longer than a day without requiring stacking my trunk rack higher than my head.

Recently I've picked up a red 2014 and have been enjoying it pretty thoroughly.  I haven't been able to complain about anything so far, despite all the people on the 1400 board complaining about handling and tires and all that jazz.  I'm sure I'll jump for joy when I go to another tire - I know on my other bike (My first bike - a Kawasaki Z750S) going from BT021 to BT023 tires made a significant difference.  The Concours feels good to me though - turning is smooth.  I also haven't been riding as much as I'd intended to. Personal things have been getting in the way, but I'm going to push through those for more time on-bike.

I live in the South San Francisco Bay Area and have my whole life - we have great roads and a 365 day riding season - I don't think I'd trade that for much at this point.

Welcome to the forum.  Glad you found us.  There's tons of information here on your new bike, and if you can't find something, just ask.  Someone here will likely know the answer.  COG is much more than just a forum, and if you like what you see here, maybe you will consider joining as a full member. For most members, it's the rides, rallies, tech sessions, and the friends you make along the way that are, by far, the most important part of their experience.

And, yeah, you can find a whole lot of discussion about tires here, too, but that's another story.  Congrats on the new ride!   :beerchug:

Welcome in Brian. My name is Mark Hartman and I am your ever grateful SW Area Director. Please let me know if any questions, comments, suggestions or concerns. There is a great group of members in the bay area and I'm sure they will be chiming in here. We right now have a run to Havasu weekend of Jan 17, the PHX MC show the following weekend and the Territorial Rally in Prescott AZ on this thread,48553.0.html with much much more to come. Becoming a member pays off in many ways with discounts and info. Let me know if any questions.
