Potential C10 Owner in East PA - Any Locals?
« on: December 13, 2018, 02:57:10 am »
Hi everyone and thank you for having me.

Suddenly I'm 49 yrs old, and suddenly I've been riding for 20 years. How does that happen?

I've had Hondas (CL350, CB77, NT650), Meriden Triumph 650s (single carbs), A Ducati (S2R), Moto Guzzis (Eldo, SP1000), but, as you can see, no Kawasakis and never an in-line four.

So, as my subject line indicates, I'm thinking of purchasing a C10. One of the main reasons I am drawn to the bike is the quality of individuals on this message board; to me, that says a lot about these machines. In a word -- the actual word around which the posting rules are orgainized -- is civility. I like that message!

The other reason is that I like what these bikes bring to the table: a robust design, a long production life, significant weather protection, storage, torque, simplicity of service, shaft drive, covers the miles but won't beat me up. It seems like a perfect package!

But I have  problem: I think I've maybe noticed ONE Concours in my life. And even then, I'm not sure that's what it was. It was on the highway: it had sporty but dated lines, a sure-footed stance, dual pipes, cruising along, but...it was obvious the bike had power on tap. I hope that was a Connie!

And that's it. That's my only known sighting. Of all the bike nights and swap meets I've been to. It's my Bigfoot, my Nessie. I've seen more Vincents!

I'd like one of these -- in theory -- but because I've never seen one up close or thrown a leg over one, I'm not altogether sure. If I bite the bullet and buy one, I would hope you'll hear more from me and I hope I would be thrilled.

A BIG ASK: If someone local to this area were to offer to walk me through a tour of their C10, I'd be very appreciative -- and will pay that kindless forward (I will/do, anyway). I thought that asking here would be better than tying up a salesperson's or seller's time before I'm ready to commit, and if someone were to step forward, I figured they'd do so as an ambassador out of enthusiasm for the Connie. A win-win.

If nothing materializes of this inquiry, I still hope to become a satisfied owner in the very near future.

Thank you for reading. (If I've broken any posting rules, I apologize. If that's the case, I must have missed a detail in there somewhere.)

Andy in Kempton, PA

Welcome Andy. There are a few C-10 owners in your area. Most might be in hibernation. I would gladly meet you somewhere if I wasn't busy chasing fury woodland animals.

If your still looking after January shoot me a message maybe we can meet somewhere around Lancaster or Reading. I'm in York.
There is a member here in York selling a nice C-10 with lots of mods. Maybe he will chime in here. :beerchug:

Hi
Hopefully you will get a response. There are at least 2 Northeast Staff members within 50 miles of you NW and SW.

There is pretty good club activity in your area. During the riding season 4Bikes here on the forum organizes a monthly club meet & greet at the Ephrata 1st Sunday event. Our mid-May Spring Fling regional rally will be in Matamoras, and the club's national rally will be in Williamsport this July.

Remember that full (dues paid) club members receive a printed member directory and access to the online member list as part of the member benefits. This makes it easy to look for other members... or assistance if ever needed.

There is more to be gained by members raising hands saying "I'll do that" instead of pointing fingers saying "nobody's doing that."

Thank you, Chuck and Steve, for the kind welcome. I would hope I can take part in the group's activities e.g. Ephrata once things pick back up again. I look forward to meeting others who live nearby.:)

I know winter isn't the obvious time to be considring buyig a bike, but...I can't let weather slow me down. Maybe I'll have one by spring. Maybe sooner! It all depends on how much I can learn about these. I'll be reading more on the forum.

Chuck, good luck out there.

I'm ready to visit your area and show off my For Sale C10 as long as you remain in potential buyer status.  I'm less than 3 hours away on Long Island.
I'd also suggest going to the Spring rally near Port Jervis (I think it's actually in Matamoras PA).  I'm thinking of registering for that but would likely go as a 1 day trip, and it would be my first time at such a thing.
PS my ad in the classified section says For Trade, I've progressed to a cash sale but I'm still interested in a trade for an ATV or camper or whatever would suit my current needs.

Take a look at the event calendar for last year. You will see that there are several events located in South East PA. It is a very active area for events. I have come up from the Tidewater area of VA to attend some of them. I am not the only person on a C10 at these events.
