Seems to me his mistake was stopping in a crosswalk!  He's a lucky scooter-rider for sure.

I remember learning about the safety zone in intersections, and how the stop lines are engineered to keep a car from harms way during accidents (based on vehicle momentum and how far that would take one in a crash). Looks like the engineers got this right!

thats true, he was out a bit far but I noticed in the countries I was in where they allow Bikes and 2 wheels to filter they all were out that far as the first car usually stopped at the edge of the cross walk. That left the X walk as the only place for bikes that moved forward to be
