Applied to a motorcycle, it is nearly impossible to lock the front tire up in a panic stop. Maybe in the last 10 feet. By then it doesn't matter.

Teach a beginning BRT Motorcycle safety class and you will definitely rethink this statemenet!   :-\  The application of excessive abrupt force of a standard non-ABS front brake and yes the front tire will lock up. I've witnessed this dozens of times and from the "Cat-birds" seat too! Most of the time I am the one picking up the bike and dusting off the students. And often replacing clutch and brake levers, mirrors and sometimes ending back shift levers and or rear brake levers. Some worse!

I Couldn't save this shift lever!

What I think we all agree on is practice, practice, practice. ABS doesn't make you a better rider, it does however prevent wheel lock ups in emergency braking situations. It will not always stop you in shorter distances, but it willl give you control and help keep you upright. However if you are braking in a curve, then all bets are off!

I've done dozens of full boat both brakes max pressure stops on MSF and other courses on my ZX14.

I have only managed to lock the front tire up when I slowed enough (under 15 mph)  and did it on purpose.

Yo Privateer,
I am amazed at this comment.  Most particularly I am amazed that you cannot lock the front on the ZX14.  You see I have the same ZX14 forks and their associated radial calipers on my C-10 and I can lock my front wheel at speed.  I DO have 320mm disc versus the ZX14s 310mm ones, but I am also carrying a bunch more weight (easy there friends).  That's what surprises me about your comment though is I would have thought the ZX14 able to lock up easier than mine.

I have to admit, the first person who ever rode my bike came back NOT talking about the turbo and all of the extra horses, but chiding me for not telling them my bike had BRAKES. He nearly hurt himself.  LOL

I unintentionally tried like he!! to lock up the front brake on my C14, trying to avoid becoming the new grill on a Dodge Charger. I couldn't get it to lock even though I was on those brakes for all they wore worth. ABS saved my life that day!  ;)
