AGATT may not have helped with altitude, but probably kept all his/her broken bones together upon landing.

I can't figure out why he veered left like that.

That's about the best outcome for this situation, didn't get hit by the SUV and didn't hit the fence.

I've seen a few videos like that, where the rider isn't confident he can make the turn, maybe some target fixation on the oncoming car, and tries to go around the left of the car. It never ends well, but a head on collision doesn't go so well either. A number of times I have been in a similar situation and it takes a large force of will to focus on where you need to go, instead of where you are afraid of going.

But it can be done! Take your eyes off that oncoming car and focus on the right side of your lane, and the bike will tend to follow.
