Title: Ephrata Bikers Breakfast is now a regular COG event
Post by: 4Bikes on November 18, 2016, 05:25:09 pm
A number of us have shown up at one time or another for the Ephrata Bikers Breakfast.  It’s held the first Sunday of the month starting in May and ending October.  I was thinking about putting these Breakfasts on the COG calendar and turning it into a COG event with different rides after the event.

Since folks travel from different directions, I’m thinking it would be a good idea to make up rides that will put you on some great roads you might not know about, but also head you in the general direction that you need to ride home.  I’m looking for ideas on where to end the ride for a lunch spot.   I know regulars have come from Maryland, York County, Chester/Delaware counties, New Jersey and even Long Island.

Thoughts on me putting together a few rides that would leave Ephrata?   :motonoises:

The address for the Bikers Breakfast is:
American Legion Post 429
300 Cocalico St
Ephrata, Pennsylvania

Thanks Chuck!  I'm thinking of ending of ending one of the rides for lunch in Wrightsville or Columbia, another at the Gap Diner, and a third North or east of Reading. That should get most folks heading home in the right direction.  Lots of great roads to include on those rides.  :motonoises:  If someone needs to head in another direction, let me know.  I'll work on the route planning over the next few weeks.

I added the following dates for the Ephrata bikers Breakfast.  :motonoises:  Suggest registering or posting up before each event to we have an idea who to look out for.

Meet for Breakfast and see thousands of motorcycles.

The Cloister Post 429 of the American Legion in Ephrata hosts a motorcycle show on the first Sunday of each month, April through November.
Come anytime you like, but COG will schedule our event from 9:00 AM to 10:30-11:00 AM.

We park towards the back top of the lot by the loading dock.  Join other motorcyclists for great conversation, and a breakfast if you like. See thousands of motorcycles on display from concept, to classic, to modern Sport Touring.

After the event, there will be three rides to choose from that will put you on some great roads as you head to towards your home.  The details for the ride and lunch can also be a group decision that day.

I think we figured out a few years ago that the "dumpster" spot is the best place to hang out. It's next to that long line of shade trees and the building offers shade too. Also a lot less chaos going on versus the lower lot. It's all good and the breakfast isn't half bad and the folks dishing it up are really nice people.  :great:

You can download this Route #1 if you are headed south after the event.  It's 108 miles of good twisty roads, and ends at the Panera Bread 75 Eisenhower Dr, Hanover PA.  You can drop off and head on your way home at anytime.

Route #2 is a 60 Miles loop that will bring you back to the Ephrata Bikers Breakfast location.  It runs around great twisty and hilly roads known as the Texter Mountain area, and does a loop around Blue Marsh lake.

Steve, I used to be president of the Ducati Owners Club and I've got a handful of routes that we used to run around Lancaster County. If you have any interest in taking a look at them to see if there might be something you could use I'd be happy to share them with you. They're in Garmin formats.

Thanks to Scott (Staylo), we now have two additional rides for Ephrata below, with an option to add two more if we get bored.  It's interesting that the Ducati riders pick similar roads as the sport touring guys.  These roads are great choices, and they will be mucho fun to ride.  :great:

The weather will indeed be sunny. Speaking of dirty, those two big rain storms this week washed away any vestiges of salt left on the roads. Hope to see a good turnout. I'm shooting to be there by 9:00 am.  If anyone is interested in a ride afterwards, try to be there by 10:30.

I counted 11 COG folks, and Greg handed out cards and ride events to at least 4 C-14 and C-10 rider's we came across.  Four of the Coggers were not riding Kawasaki, but it was great to see Fish on his really nice C-10 while leaving the Wing at home.  Six of us started on the Hanover northern loop ride, and think we found the good twisties for sure.

Have to share this one. I was cracking up because we were turning onto and then running a good distance on "Cocalico Road". The female voice giving me turn by turn navigation the Sena S-20 was actually saying "C0ck-a-lick-a Road".  That there was funny.   :nananana: :-\  :rotflmao:

As to the rider whose name we shall not speak...  Was he out out, or just didn't switch over to reserve out?  'Cause if that was out out, that was some kind of impressive route management!

It's a good thing that the [PA-MD] region has a choice of rides and events this Sunday May 7th.  I plan to be in Ephrata and go for some type of ride before heading back home for a family event.

Here is the other ride option put together by Russell and Greg.  Do one or the other, since both is not an option.   :motonoises:

It was 53 degrees and windy with spotty showers.  Jack was the only one that showed up, so we had went for a 60 mile righteous ride and had a great lunch.  Apologies (if you were looking for us) to the blue C-14 we saw heading in as we were riding out of event.  Better weather next time.   :motonoises:

I braved the clouds/showers and stopped by ~10am.  No connies around so I ended up visiting a friend who has an antique stand up the road in Adamstown.  Very small turnout, maybe 50 bikes by then?  I look forward to a nice weekend when it will be several thousand.

Wasn't warm either in MD , about 20 + I'm guessing showed up for breakfast & ride starting in Frederick.  Had a blast as always,  Pete took his sport touring wing , so I took mine, I felt bad as I saw a tear coming from the left side of the headlight on the C10 as I left.

Great.  I'll leave the Air Hawk on my bike so that you can compare the inflation.  I'm really happy with mine, now that I left most of the air out. I'm thinking about a ride around Marsh Lake and stop for lunch.  There are always other options as well.

Got the photos.  Thanks! For someone that wasn't coming, you sure seemed to be enjoying yourself on the ride.   :motonoises:  I believe your comment at the light was, wow, now that was fun!  Apologies to the tires if that 65 mile loop had too many twists in it.   :motonoises:

I counted at least 14 COG members, and we had a nice lineup of Connies and of course keeping with COG mentality at least four were not on their Connies.   We also met two new C-14 riders with a bunch of questions, and they have new issues of the Concourior to learn more about the club. We had 8 go out for the ride/lunch, including Mike, Jack, Dale, Greg, Gerard, Mark, and one of the new guys on a 2008 C-14.

Hi all,

Thanks again to Steve for leading this into a COG event. I would like to take on the the role of leading the ride in either July or August. Below is the link to a map called "1st sunday 100mi ride". It is at my site http://sharfester.com/post (http://sharfester.com/post)

The trip would leave at 1100 and take about 2 hours. Ending at Johnny and Hons BBQ joint, where at 2pm, a band will be playing (2 July). Time to get something to eat and stay to enjoy the show if you like.

I have been on most of these roads but I am planing to ride the north side of 422 a couple times to figure out the best roads, check for construction etc. If I update any of the roads, it will be reflected on the website map.

Michael

Hello everyone,
I updated my site with a 70 mile loop for those who may wish to take a more leisurly pace. That should still put us all at Johnny and Hons at about 2pm.

I also uploaded the KML and KMZ files to a share drive, for anyone who wants to download the map. I may update the map between now and the 2nd, so be sure to download the map the morning of the ride, just in case.

This is the first time I have published the files, so please, someone test them out and let me know if it gives you the turn by turn, or just a straight route.

Thank you.

Chief

Agreed.  It looks like there is going to be a strong COG turnout again for this coming July 2nd.  There will be a lot of motorcycles to check out, and don't forget the free coffee.  Some type of ride(s) will be put together leaving around 11:00 AM.   :motonoises:

We had a very nice lineup of Concours motorcycles and at least 14 COGers on hand for the July 2nd Ephrata Bikers Breakfast. We introduced yet another 2 C-14 owners to the virtues of COG.  Mike Brent led 8 of us on a 125 mile ride ending up near Hamburg for an awesome lunch at Kauffman's BBQ. The ride was not entirely uneventful. Traveling north on RT 897 we encountered three vintage motorcycles headed south in the other lane. When the third rider gave his downward salute, (we think) he hit a series of dips in the road and got an immediate uncontrollable tank slapper and went down instantly.  The last five rider's in our group were shocked to see the rider and bike skidding at least 250 feet.  Fortunately the rider and bike stayed in their lane with the bike eventually ending up in a corn field. The rider was saying he was ok, but without gloves and riding pants he was pretty chewed up.  I think everyone helped out in some way, everything from lifting the bike out of the field, to helping the rider and bike clean up, to directing traffic. The advice from Greg after we helped him get bike running?  Thanks for the show, but we don't ever need to see that one again!

Come join the 13-14 COG members that showed up the last two times for the upcoming August 6th event.  :motonoises:  The details are in reply #7 of this thread.  We will do some type of ride starting around 10:45 AM, and it’s all negotiable as to where we end up.   :??:

Correction for the Date:  August 6th!

For the August 6th gathering at the Ephrata Bikers Breakfast, we were treated to 68-70 degrees and sunny in the middle of August. Everyone noticed the weather, and the top and both bottom lots were completely filled and bikes were starting to spill onto the grass. There were so many motorcycles, that we got parked in quickly and lost our lineup of Concours.  So no telling how many COG members were there!  We met Jeff and Kathy from Virginia, and Wayne from New Jersey (a different Wayne from NJ) who travelled in for the first time.  Seven of us went for a spirited ride around Texter Mountain and found a road that quickly ended at a dead end. We thought we ran out of roads, as in we finally found them all!    :motonoises:  We got back on track and finished up the ride in Columbia PA after a stop at Speedwell Forge.

The number of bikes there was amazing.  Jack and I never saw a Kawasaki 1200 ZRX before.  We stood and marveled at it.  Then we saw two more.  Go figure   :-[  I think every make model and variation possible was in that lot.

Can we get a show of throttle hands for the upcoming October 1st Ephrata Bikers Breakfast?   :motonoises: The weather looks to be fantastic. I'm thinking of another run up to Kauffman's BBQ.   :)

Also, keep the next two October COG events in mind.  :great:

The numbers were down a bit today, we had seven Coggers today.  The weather was great, although some would argue it was a bit chilly for the ride over at 42 degrees.  The full sun warmed things up to tee-shirt weather.  Thanks to everyone who showed up for the Ephrata Events this year.  :great:
