Road reccomendations
« on: June 17, 2014, 12:06:04 am »
Hello all,
Not sure if this is the right area to post in but...This coming Sunday, June 22, I'm busing it out to the State College, PA area to pick up a new to me 2002 Connie.  Anyone have any road recommendations on my way back to New York City instead of slabbing it all the way home? Even a couple of diversions would be welcome.

P.S. I do have to be at work Monday morning! Oh, and I'll be putting my 1999 up for sale some time next week in case anyone might be interested or knows of someone who is.
Thanks.

You could try 45 from State College to Lewisburg.
Then 11 from Northumberland to Berwick.
93 through Hazelton.
At which point I would angle down to 78 into Newark
rather than take 80 to the GWB.
SC to the Jersey border is about 200 miles. By then
you may have had enough sightseeing to just want to
slab the last 90 miles home.
There was a time I was making that trip twice a week.

45 (Purple Heart hwy) is a nice ride.
Here is another option...

From Lewisburg cross river and head south on 404 to 147
Follow 147 (Bridge ave) to 61 east to 125 s in Shamokin to 209 east all the way toward Stroudsburg. (125 is a fun road)

Then find the best way into NJ as mentioned.

There is more to be gained by members raising hands saying "I'll do that" instead of pointing fingers saying "nobody's doing that."

Thanks for the recommendations guys.  :motonoises: (The bike is actually a little further North West in a town called Clearfield). Don't know why I bought it. Just wanted a change and I suppose I like complicating my life.  :)

This should provide me with some good riding time. Living in the city kinda sucks cause you have to ride a pretty fair distance to get to some nice roads. Have a great time at the National if you're headed that way. Maybe next year for me.

Ari;

Ideally you should head out to State College on Saturday night so you would have all day Sunday for the ride home.  You are looking at a 7+ hours ride back without accounting for stops for food, fuel and traffic if you stay off the Interstate until you get close to the Hudson River.

Here is a link to a route on Google Maps you would probably enjoy.

Let me know if I can be of any help.

Come out Saturday and I'll meet you for dinner.

If you can't do that, be sure to stop at Denny's Beer Barrel
for lunch. Try the burgers or better yet the wings.
You'll thank us all later.

Thanks Mike. Hope all's well with you! Yeah, Sunday's gonna be a long day.
Time to splurge and get set up with a GPS thingamajig.

And thanks for the dinner offer Robert. I wish I could take you up on it. Next time. Initial idea was to head out there Saturday but I have a b-day party for my oldest son...turning 10. Surprised I have any time to ride at all.

You're not sending me to a Denny's restaurant are you?  :rotflmao:

Denny's Beer Barrel it is. So..., where is it? Oh, just checked. Its in, whaddya know, Clearfield!! How convenient is that. One burger and a beer couldn't hurt.

Thanks again guys.

Ari;

You said that you are taking a bus on Sunday morning to State College.  What time does the bus depart NYC and when do you expect to arrive at State College?
