Saturday, July 1 2017 - Big W BBQ Meet n Greet n Eat, Wingdale, NY
http://www.cog-online.org/ClubPortal/EventDisplayNew.cfm?clubID=1328&eventID=242499

We've been running this annual activity for several years. Big W BBQ has a reputation for great BBQ, as those who have attended in the past can attest. Ribs, brisket, burnt ends, short ribs, chicken, duck, and more.
Check out their web site for menu: http://www.theforkingpig.com/

Big W BBQ is easy to get to from anywhere in the tri-state/Hudson Valley/Connecticut area. It's located in southeast Dutchess County, NY, on Route 22 in Wingdale,  not too far from Sherman, CT. This region offers great riding possibilities getting there and home.
Here is a link to Google Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/CVGZuj7KRAP2

The plan is to meet at Big W BBQ when they open at noon.

For an interesting & historical 70+ mile ride around the area read the article beginning on page 14 in the May 2013 issue of Backroads magazine....
http://issuu.com/backroadsmagazine/docs/may2013

It is most likely Terry & I will be leading separate rides from the NYC area and Waterbury CT area respectively. Additional posts to come with details.

If you would like to coordinate a ride to Big W BBQ from your home area the details to this thread.

Let me toss out this preliminary ride info...  I will plan to meet others at Lena's Westside Deli, 702 Chase Pkwy, Waterbury, CT, as we have done in the past. It's a convenient location just off I-84 in front of Naugatuck Valley Community College.

I plan to be at the deli around 9:30 AM. Side stands up and departing promptly by 10:00 AM. Be prepared with full tank & stomach and empty bladder. :motonoises:  The deli has breakfast items and there is a gas station 1/2 mile west of the deli on Chase Pkwy.

I will update this post with a link/map of my proposed route when I have completed it.

Here is a proposed 2 hr ride from the deli to Big W. Some of the selected back roads are new to me. I may use the entire route, or decide to wing it along the way, or let Diz take over once we are in New Preston region.

This place has the best baked beans. I actually look forward to them more than the BBQ. And the BBQ is awesome.

I am going to try to meet up with you in Woodbury near 67 Chip sealing on several small roads in Washington on your map. May I make a suggestion? Once on Rt7 heading north, go to 37 through Sherman and Wakeman Rd to Quaker hill. End up in Pawling

Thanks for the feedback Dana...

Here is another route idea staying away from Washington.  We can change up the route on the fly, if needed.

Most likely will cancel and postpone if next Saturday is a rain-out.  Will send email to those registered, show as canceled on the calendar, and post here.

Attached is a GPS file for proposed ride to Big W from Waterbury. The route is a base and may need to adapt if road issues are discovered along the way. This file  is provided "as is" and was created with Basecamp for Garmon Zumo 660 using City Navigator North America NT 2018.2 maps. It may need to be tweaked recalculated to work on your GPS. The route is suppose to be 66.9 miles.

When I create a route, I always put the mileage in parentheses in the route name.  That way, if I share it (or even when I export it to run it through Tyre into Maryann's TomTom), I can easily see if the route has changed.  It isn't foolproof, but it works for me.

It has the added benefit of allowing me to quickly scan for an appropriate length route if I'm looking for a ride to fill a specific amount of time.

Just a suggestion.

Have fun at Big W.

Good idea for next time.  I banged out this route pre 6:00am this morning for others to have as a just-in-case. Normally I lead this ride on an impromptu route.

Steve- I would like to meet your group at the Christ Redeemer Church on Rte. 67 in Southbury. Its about 100 yards from the intersection of 6 and 67.n No need to stop, I will drive into your formation as you go by. Map says about 12-15 minutes from your starting point.

Dana - That should work. Most likely there will be a change in ride leaders, as John P will be joining us at the deli. He knows more back roads in this area than I do. I will ask him to keep the beginning the same to meet you near the intersection of 6 & 67 in Southbury. After that the route may take on a much different path than the one I preliminary drafted.

Weather is looking like 50-80% rain. If anything like today, possible passing isolated t-storms. Good call to pull the plug on the group rides and let individuals decide to take the ride to Big W on their own or not. The hardier soles will enjoy smoked delicacies.

We will reschedule and have another Big W ride in the future.
