2019 RIDE THE RIBBON
« on: January 12, 2019, 04:23:51 pm »
It's time to block off the last weekend in August for RIDE THE RIBBON.  We will be staying at the same motel this year.

AMERICAS BEST in John Day.

Bob has handed the reigns over to me this year, he will however, be there with all his knowledge and experience.  I will be doing contact with the motel and making supper plans for Saturday.  I can't fill his shoes, but I have a computer so feel free to contact me here or msg me.
This is a friendly get together of like minded riders

I am also considering looking for a printer to make us a shirt.  anyone with knowledge of a good inexpensive one let me know.  Also, if a AD or AAD has any trinkets to offer up, we would appreciate them.  Thanks!

We are looking forward to a fun weekend.

I edited above post.  I had May on my mind,  early in the morning, and I did not multi[-task well.  Sorry for the confusion.

We have finally gotten the rates for the Ribbon Ride.  Americas Best is 100.00 a night.  It is 10.00 dollars cheaper for one bed at days inn, but we have had some bad experiences there.  Better to pay the extra and be able to communicate with the group, if need be.

Ashley is the office manager.  When you call mention Ride the Ribbon.  Feel free to call me w/ questions.      :ecomcity:

update:  I called the motel last night.  I was quoted 99.00.  I asked if they had discounts.  Yep.  $89.00 for seniors.

For a newbie to this ride...what is it exactly.  The name is catchy, but doesn't tell me much.

Thanks,
Chris

This is a meet and greet.  We meet at the motel Friday, gassed up and ready to ride Saturday morning.  People figure out who is riding with whomever.  get up Saturday morning and meet for breakfast across the street.  kick stands up 9 am, to a destination of your choice.  last year we had 3 groups head out.

Main group heads east on hwy 26, to hwy 245, over Mt Dooley and the little dragon.  Then west on the 11 to Sumpter, big swap meet and food break.  continue w on the 7 to the 26 back to john day.
180 + corners going over mt Dooley.

make a few stops at points of interest.  artesian well, historical marker...
Hope to see you there this year.  There is  also a camp ground a few blocks away

 :welcome:

Really like how you told readers when, where and duration in the announcement.

Past announcements of some rides have only stated ride titles (omitting where, when, how long) - doing so gave the impression (to me as a newcomer) that rides were an insiders' thing and not very open to newcomers.
Your post shows openness and welcome...  :beerchug:

Just called and the man answering the phone was quoting me @$110...with a Senior Discount.  I'll call tomorrow and try to speak to Ashley.

Update:  Called and spoke to Ashley.  All is well.  :)

What's the agenda on Sunday then?  The registration shows it as a one-day event.

We either choose a different road or go on the same road the other direction for a different view?  Form different groups and ride with different people?  It is a meet and greet, and eat.  we are an informal group getting together and we plan the night before, and put plan in action the next morning.

I was so tempted..but why Labor Day weekend, one the heaviest traveled and patrolled holidays, though there are some nice remote ares there.

Labor Day weekend in John Day is very quiet, and traffic in that part of Oregon is pretty non-existent.  Coming from Moses Lake should be a piece of cake.  I always come and go over Chinook Pass, and all I have to deal with is beautiful scenery.

On seeing the comment about heavily patrolled holiday.  I have seen maybe 3 patrol cars in the last 3 years.  Not sayin there aren't more, but the traffic is very light in that part of the state.  One year I traveled from pilot rock to Mt Vernon and passed ONE vehicle coming from the opposite direction, and one was going to pull out after I passed...

I just learned that my mother and two of my sisters are going to be vacationing in the Yellowstone area in September, so I will be using my fun money to join them this year.  Y'all have fun and I plan to be there next year, epipens in my pocket.

I'll be taking it easy and leaving Calgary on Thursday August 29th to get to John Day OR for Friday afternoon. I'll probably stop for the night in the Spokane area. Time/traffic and national park permitting, I'd prefer to cross at Carway and go through Glacier National Park. Otherwise, the quicker route should be crossing at Eureka.

If anyone else is riding a similar route to the rally and would like to meet up or ride together, contact me.

Cheers

So what number have you guys called to talk to Ashley, or anyone? I have tried all day the number for front desk on the website, as well as the 877 number, and I get no answer or a useless business account person. Sounds like I may drag a few family with me.
