2001 Triumph Trophy 900
« on: June 23, 2013, 02:24:52 am »
Hi All,

I checked out a 2001 Triumph Trophy 900 today, seriously thinking of selling my 1986 Concours and getting the Triumph.  ???

The colour is Sunset red and is quite nice.  :) A few cosmestic issues but nothing serious.

Any Thoughts?

Claude

If you like it and can afford it.....Do it ! Change is good !  :motonoises: I like the look of the Triumph but don't know much about them . I did not know much about Connies until lurking this forum for awhile . Have you checked out any triumph forums ?

From what I can tell talking about that model with my Triumph dealer (who is a pretty honest guy) those are pretty tough bikes and the 900 seems more desirable than the 1200, at least judging by the relative numbers for sale.  Biggest problem I recall anyone talking about is with a lot of bikes that don't get low miles, carbs gumming up and a bit of hassle to get to for cleaning.

I had a 1200 from 2000.  Rode it to Sturgis in '01.
Was a rocket when it ran right, which was right up until I had the shop do some service on it.
After that - stumble and stutter.  Tried other shops - and no one could get the carbs synced after that.  Traded it for a 2002 VTX1800C.  Never looked back.
Good luck with the 900 if you pull the trigger.  Seems people always had better luck with the triples and not the fours.
Ride safe(r).

Did you buy it?  You will love the riding position!  I was much happier with the 1200 but that is just me...  Good bike that still outlooks many made today!
