Yes sir. Surgery #13 here since '10 is this Sat. The only problem with getting my teeth in order is that I might put a bunch of weight back on when I regain the ability to chew without pain.

$30k in the States was $7k here for the same dental work. The roads and views here are absolutely incredible. Everything is cheap. The currency is the US Dollar, eternal spring weather, fresh and amazing food is everywhere. Not to mention the people. Totally worth it.

100% sales tax on bikes over 125cc here - you sure you want one for double!? lol
Yes, a Concours here is $32k.

When I said everything is cheap here that is for items under $399. Everything else has a 100% luxury tax to benefit the poor areas = excellent roads/infrastsucture everywhere:-)

Not sure if Ecuador qualifies as South America...maybe more like Central America. I'm From Argentina, btw! no more south than that lol!
In any case Fais, enjoy the trip man! For next time, consider Buenos Aires as well for Dental or Surgery work...amazing Doctors / clinics over there if you have the $$ ;)

I'm thinking about taking a looooong trip (Canada to Usuahia) sometime in the future  :motonoises:

The way you eat, gaining weight might be a problem!  :rotflmao:

Good luck with your oral surgery!

Fais, where in Ecuador are you?  JD, I'm guessing that geography wasn't a topic you studied much in school?

Currently in Quito until I find out if we can complete the next round of work in one, two or three days.

I have orders to fill here so we will make the rounds of the entire country purchasing goods and treating it like a vacation as well. Mindo, Banos, Otovalo, Salinas, Cuenca and the Guacamayo Lodge in the Amazon will hopefully all get a visit. Sat will tell all.

If Ecuador were in Central America I would have definitely ridden here all these years LOL

JD - are you from Argentina, Indiana?  :D just kidding around - but you sorta asked for it  :beerchug:

JR - I bought some stretchy jeans today - you know I'm gonna gain weight !

Don - those are the teeth that are just out of my price range .... :-/ but I'll get close  :)

Well that first pic was of one of a fleet of constructuon bikes I have never seen here before. Thought maybe someone would find that of interest. They're everywhere now.  I used to dream of making similar bikes for emergency responders, electricians, handymen and etc when I lived in LA. Lots of time in traffic in a truck going to do a job we could have done on a bike. Often needing just a tape measure, lap top and ladder to make estimates. I was hourly, so, if my boss liked the idea it would have hurt me and helped him. Paid to sit in traffic isn't so bad I guess.

Craft beer stop at a moto museum cafe in Quito:

No sir. The way I pack a KLR for travel here leaves no room for a medium-maintenance pillion. Renting a GS1200 would be cost prohibitive. And, I have some purchasing to do so we rented a car with a trunk. Harder to find than a wagon or suv but a lockable trunk is mandatory for me. Hopefully we find all we need and fill it up a few times.

7 hours, 2 ceramic crowns and a couple of root canals later my orthodontist looked at me and said 'you will have no more pain'! Finally! My wisdom teeth impacted and cracked my molars when I was a teenager. At 22 I had them removed but the damage was done. It took me another 10 years to pay off loans my own parents took out in my name when I was 14. At 32 I sold a business, bought a Connie, traveled and researched my dental options. Refusing to pay into the insurance scam dental plans stateside I started coming to Ecuador to repair my teeth. $30k estimates in the states = $7k here. Bone implants, titanium rod implants, porcelain and ceramic implants and crowns. Constant pain for 25 years is now behind me. They managed to complete the last three sessions in one day yesterday, no pain, no pain pills, no drooling - and I am eating every crunchy thing I see! I am missing 3 molars still - but the cake is done - can add cherries later:-) Ended up lovong it here so much I acquired an export license to the States and opened a motorcycle tour company in Peru. My shops in TN run better without me:-/ Last Jan - 2016 - I gave my moto tour company to a church - it was amazing fun but redundancy killed me - and I don't think Ewa was cool with my sand-floor bamboo house on the beach lol

Thanks Diz  :great: I'll be having cereal again this morning! It's a whole new world.

Not staying - but looking to find a new location for the moto tours and a restaurant somewhere Ewa would also like to live half the year. We still haven't lived in the same state yet so I believe we will finish 2017 in Murrica before makng any major decisions. TN does not suck so it's all good.

Nothing new here - been importing from here since 2012 to offset travel expenses :great: It's an easy trip, same time zone, eternal spring weather, no currency exchange, awesome people and products.

Today we will go to 16,500ft and will hike past the highest church at 15,600ft. It's training for our next week of hiking up volcanoes and repelling down waterfalls  ;D

16k feet is dangerous, if you've been before you know. If not listen to guide.

At 30 I was in great shape. SCUBA, handball, racquetball, lifting. Went to top of Mona Kea on big island in Hawaii. Almost fell down a couple times. We even stopped 3/4 of the way up to acclimate.

But it was worth it. Have fun!

10-4 and thanks JR - this is a test. Oxygen will be nearby as well as a quick trip down if necessary. I've been a few times and it's time to acclmate Ewa before we go hiking up ashes to the summit of Cotopaxi. Talk about exhausting! Today's is a hard packed trail and very easy compared to Wednesdays climb. Man I love it here.

How's the house?

The sink is much cleaner than you left it.  :rotflmao:

Other than that, Tammy is coming over to clean on the 21st and maybe 22nd, and wants to know if she should have the door code. I texted you asking, I'm not giving it out without your direction.

I'll be rolling out morning of 22nd, so making sure she can get in to clean. All the dishes are washed, and on the morning of the 22nd all of my stuff will be out except the laptop and change of clothes (into riding gear).

That was a lot of bread you brought back from the BMW rally, and so the birds have been being fed quite well for the last few days.

Oh, and that raucous party I had Saturday totally trashed the place.  :nananana:

Nice !

Please keep the water bowls full so the birds don't eat all the grapes 🍇

Watered the porch plants? Had rain?

Only communication is via forum and instagram. Emails are once a week and my Verizon sim card is out - S.America sim card in so no int'l texting.

Man o man - hate that I missed a party 🎉  :beerchug:

Tammy can have the code - but she likely won't figure it out lol. Wish I woulda given her a key.

Thanks again man! We made the hike today and may have reached 17,000'! Beautiful. Pics on InstaGram already. Best photo back-up in case I drop the phone off a cliff lol

Had a good bit of rain. Yes to bowls, and plants. Birds not bothering grapes, and they aren't ready yet or I'd have beaten the birds to them.

fess up....how many times did you have to stop and rest on the way up?  I only went up to 12,400 and for the last 200 feet I felt like I had to stop about every 5 steps to catch my breath.

Organic isn't a word here - and purple potatoes aren't extinct either - they call our food 'dead' or 'poisoned' but it's just because they don't get that organic is a hipster movement lol

The entrance to the adventure park - 60 mph across the Rio Blanco into a narrow canyon. Then vertical climb up about 100 yards, white knuckles across a rope bridge and another 60mph ziplone back. Surviving is the best part! Motto - trust the ropes and double check the caribeeners😶

Fais,
First... That first pic you posted where the guy has his toolbox, ladder, and roll of wire on the back of his bike may have inspired me...

Being an electrical contractor who's old work van's seen better days, not interested in laying down $40-$50 k for a new one, and has a cool C14... maybe that's an option??   :rotflmao:

Seriously... it kinda reminds me of a common old saying my grandpa used to tell me when I was a kid... "Poor people have poor ways."  But ya gotta hand it to the guy... A+ for orginazation and originality!

Good to hear your pain's better and your teeth problems are better!

You're pics are awesome, dude! Beautiful there, and really dig the waterfall pic.

Zip lining is awesome, but bet it's 10 times cooler there!
Stay cool!
Bob

Hi,
        Fais, glad everything went well!

I was looking at your pics, and brought back some memories!

I lived in San Juan, PR for about 5 years and while there worked on Sea- Going Tugs, pulling container and oil barges around the Caribbean and S.America.

Guatemala, Costa Rica, Venezuala, Columbia, ect. ect.

All that to say, looking at the country and terrain (Jungle?)....

I would just shake my head, and wonder how the Spanish Conquistadors, dominated  and subdued, the native people!!!

A tough bunch back then no doubt!!! ;D

I would just shake my head, and wonder how the Spanish Conquistadors, dominated  and subdued, the native people!!
!

A tough bunch back then no doubt!!! ;D

We admire the beautiful churches and construction but are aware the beauty was created by forced labor.

Pic overload - we are overwhelemed with nature's beauty. One more day of this kind of fun and I actually do have to work here - in a few cities a few hours apart. Time to make the donuts ;D

When you eat chicken here, yesterday it was clucking. Fruits and vegetables are rarely from the fridge/freezer - eternal spring weather and good roads means they just eat fresh fresh fresh. At any budget not hardly possible for us. Only a very rich and dedicated hippy could pull it off  ;D Constant energy feels good.

Hope you like these - we are now in Mindo, a hummingbird, butterfly and orchid sanctuary town in a cloud forest. 3 beds, hot water, breakfast like you wouldn't believe, $36 a night. Have I mentioned how sweet the people are?

These pics are from Banos - tropical rainforest. Mindo pics and maybe a hummingbird video coming soon  :beerchug:

Rusty - let's ride here sometime Brother  :great: Thanks for the kind words  :beerchug:

Since I uploaded last we have been on a night walk through the cloud forest. Some pics below. Then we left that heavenly situation to get back up to 7,000' via the arid high desert, AKA The Andes. Pics from Mira Lago and our hotel for one night. Traveling with Ewa is different and luxurious vs my norm routine. I like it! Cheap had always been my fav part of S.America  ;D ;D The twisty roads beg to be ridden - and I have. Alert is rhe word as they pass like crazy and rock slides are common. We are not much safer in a Chevy Aveo lol.

Hey 👋🏽  Twinsie - 100% done with the teeth. No pain:-) been on the road buying everything to send stateside. We bought all we could and might still have $230 for a cleaning and laser whitening LOL - I might look like Dick Clark after that 😝

I posted a time lapse of over 3 hours recording this morning on InstaGram. Worth getting up for. The sunrise and clouds made an awesome show. Frog concert soundtrack was pretty cool. They stayed in sinc all night or it woulda sucked(!)

We made it through Otavalo and on to Papallacta where we are now. Roads were like glass today - I mean dream twisty roads. GPSing with my iPhone so the pics are on hers. I'll upload them sometime soon.

Surrounded by 50 volcanic thermal spas surrounded by ice cold waterfalls we can use  24/7 around our room. So, I'm running off. Magical here. Theraputic. Ahhhh:-) Ewa doesn't drive a 5-speed - I need to chill.

Fun with food at lunch today: !

Plaza in Otavalo - sweet town - home of many tiny factories and open markets. No pics from the markets - I get in the zone. Ewa was a great conspirator - she was quick to walk off at the right time and the vendor would quickly accept my offer lol 😂

I'm jealous. The pic of you two at a cafe having a beer after a long ride reminds me of the gas station at the foothill of Fontana Dam, and the gas station round the corner from TWO. There is somethign satisfying about a beer after a great ride in the mountains  :beerchug: Maybe we can have a COG International Rally? Wonder who would be up for it? Campfire talk at the next rally?

But I'm down for a rolling rally in central america - but I have never been.

You guys want me to get some moto-pics together, since 2010, and do a 10 minute talk about riding Ecuador at RWTW? Can be ridden 12 months a year - eternal spring weather  :motonoises:
