PIAA Xtreme White Plus H7
« on: July 28, 2017, 11:52:26 pm »
This PIAA Xtreme White Plus H7 was installed May 2013 and failed two days ago.
I noticed days prior that the H7 bulb was intermittent and Wednesday noticed that the entire drl/high/low beam, 3 bulbs total, were not working.

Something had blown the 15amp fuse for the headlight.

The pic shows that the bulb failed at one of two lead wires, and that one lead fell onto the other, creating a short.
The lead, to the right of the black burn spot on glass, failed and bent, remained fused after the filament disintegrated.
I've never had this happen before. Ever!

I have PIAA Xtreme Whites Plus in all of my motorcycles, including H4's in my C14.
PIAA isn't inexpensive but it's quite bright.

4 years service life for a dirt bike bulb is good for me.
I'm bewildered that this bulb disabled the entire headlight assy.
PIAA says they have never experienced this before.

What say you?

Update
PIAA did respond by sending me a warranty replacement bulb

4 year warranty!

PIAA contends that they have never seen that H7 issue previously

It's one of two PIAA bulbs in my KTM 990Adv, H7 and H3

Ahhhh, you didn't mention that originally... and therefore I thought you were running it in a C14, as you posted it in that section... should be moved to "other bikes"...

This is perfect timing. Motorcycle Consumer News this month
in the "Downtime" column explains exactly what happened and
why.
Get a copy and find out what is going on with your electrical system.

I actually did originally mention that in my first post, 4th paragraph down...
"I have PIAA Xtreme Whites Plus in all of my motorcycles, including H4's in my C14.
PIAA isn't inexpensive but it's quite bright."

I bow to the confusion about it being placed in the C14 section but it's about the PIAA H7 bulb as an accessory, not the KTM or the C14.
My mistake...
