Scared to ask
« on: June 14, 2017, 02:19:53 pm »
I was locked, and warned on another forum for asking this question....but I am curious still...so here goes. Does anyone know of an online service manual site? Not pirated types, I can find those for free. I am looking for a motorcycle version of this Auto manual site I use :  http://www.chiltondiy.com  Since I have not been able to ride for almost 4 years, I have time to take on more long term/terminal/old project bikes for people. Some bikes it would be nice to be able to buy just a section of the manual (As in wiring), or maybe the whole manual if needed. As in ebooks, I would hope they cost less, and I have no room (or desire) to have a bookshelf full of manuals I only needed the once. I used on line service manuals as an auto mechanic, but I was never a bike mechanic, and haven't found a service like this. So, if anyone knows of a site, I would love to hear about it.

Never mind! Just in case anyone else has this issue, the Clymer and Haynes site offer online manuals. Duh!  :-[  However, I don't see where you can just purchase a section. And, unlike kindle or programs like Punch! you rent it for a year (if I am understanding it). For 30 bucks I might be better finding used copies.  Hopefully someone here is smarter than I am at this (that's a low bar, so don't get too excited if you are)

Anyone know of any other sites like these? I only know of Haynes and Clymer manuals for bikes (besides factory manuals). For 30 bucks I might be better finding used copies (Some things in the auto trade are so much easier!)

Thanks for any insight/advice/help!

Don't have a local dealer that works with you? Mine will just pull up the pages I need and print them for me.

My dealer will, but I end up with bikes (like the Harley I am working on now) that they don't handle, and I don't know anyone at a Harley dealer. I get some strange stuff to work....must be me. I feel like the person that everyone brings their strays to!
That is a good point to bring up tho. The dealer helped me  with an old '83 Honda I was working on that had in issue I needed info on. Couldn't find anything in the service manual about it. Their lead tech gave me tons of info (he worked on them when they were new). Helped a lot.

Spark Tech has service manuals on DVD's that are legit and don't cost that much. I have one and its formatted just like a paper service manual. Looks like a digital SM.

Don't know why you'd need one. The bike seemingly never breaks down  :)
