Hi,
I could never figure out why he sold the C14 to begin with??? :-[

Identity crisis? Second Childhood?  ;)  I  bet at some point he comes around full circle. Gold Wing won't get the blood flowing like a C14.

Hi, it actually happened somewhat fast... prior to 2 months ago I had no intention on getting rid of the ZG anytime soon, nor getting a 1290 SA.

About 2 months ago I bought a dirt bike, a 2015 KTM 500 EXC (which is so awesome, I love it!), anyways I started spending quite a bit of time on the KTM and ADV etc forums because of the EXC and kept seeing tons of posts and info about this KTM 1290 SA. My local shop that I do all my business with (and also good friends with the owner for 20+ years) is also a KTM dealer, so my curiosity was peaked enough to check one out while I was in there for something else. He said man you should get one of those, I said naaa I've got the ZG for a lot of what these do, he said well I'll buy your ZG! Hmmm... that started the wheels turning in my head...

I pondered back and fourth for a couple weeks after that, the 2016 1290 SA's are coming in within the next couple weeks, he said he'd trade me a new 2015 that he had in stock for my ZG. The more I researched the more I liked the SA, it really is fanominal in terms of technology on it, comes fully loaded with every goody you could ever add to a bike, I also really liked that it was almost 200 lbs lighter than the ZG and with 20 more HP, 8 gallon tank, true cruise control, the suspension, etc, etc, etc...

In the end I think what finally decided it for me came down to 2 things... I'd done all I could to the ZG, she was setup right for sure but there just wasn't anything else to do to her, and for me personally farkling is part of the fun! The other reason was $, I never farkled the ZG in hopes of getting any of that $ back out of her, I built it because it was fun. But at the end of the day it would have been challenging to say the least to sell her if I ever got to the point of wanting to, it would have had to be a cash buyer deal because no bank would ever finance somebody a loan for a bike that books as low as the ZG's do... I also started thinking about at what point would I consider letting her go, 2 years, 5 years, 10?, time was for sure was the enemy, the miles on it for sure weren't going down and with that would also be the value going down. Trading it for the SA (which stickers at $21.3  :o) seemed financially like the right move, bird in hand right? I have no intention at this point to sell the SA, but if I own it for a couple years and decide to get something else it would most likely still be worth more than the ZG's worth in a couple years... So I did it!  ;D

That being said, it has been sad not having the ZG anymore, not as much from a financial investment but really more so of the time and emotional investment.  :(

This was ZG's quote for getting the 1290SA, maybe he found the KTM losing value too fast  :-[ Doesn't explain going to a Hondapotamus when he was concerned with weight. Perhaps an investigation is in order....

I went to buy a wing after sitting on one at the bike show. Local dealer wouldn't let me test ride it, and wanted more for a 2013 than the 2016 was at the bike show. Thar's mostly why I ended up with the Electra Glide.  First place I rode the glide after buying it was to the honda dealer.

I dunno.... that thing is simply gorgeous looking.... and it must be a dream ride for cross country riding 2 up for sure....

They aren't a slouch bike by any means, they will rollllll right along as fast as you wanna go, all day....

I can't say I would sell or trade my C14 for one, but if I could buy a new one, like that, I think it would be the last bike I would ever need to buy....

Lol... you guys are funny, I had some pm's from folks here so figure I better stop in and say hello!  :s_hi:

Yep, I added a full on 2up touring bike to the garage yesterday!  ;D

I finally found the weak spot IMO of the 1290 Super Adventure, great bike for sure, but lacks some mama comfort on the back to do some distance trips...

I debated back and fourth between the BMW GTL and the Wing, ended up getting a 2016 Wing, it's a matte finish silver/grey and comes factory with all the chrome already blacked out, which I think looks much better.
