MotoGP CRT Testing
« on: January 30, 2012, 07:26:42 pm »
Looks like some of the CRT and Moto3 bikes have taken to the track at Valencia
and DePuniet has been the quickest so far, not really a surprise since he's already
ridden the bike at the season ending test back in November.
Since this is the first real test I'm hoping that they will find more speed and
improve on these first times. The CRT 1000's are lapping just a little faster then the
Moto2 bikes did at the last race of 2011 so they need to find a couple more seconds
worth of speed somewhere.

Looking forward to tomorrows second day of CRT testing and the opening of the
Sepang test which will have Edwards on his BMW/Suter attending.

Let's bring on the racing...  :motonoises:

CRT testing is over with for this week. DePuniet was fastest of the CRT's in Valencia
and the Moto3 bikes had successful shakedowns with no breakdowns or major problems.
(Kawasaki content: 2 CRT's are Kawasaki powered, I believe it's the BQR team)

The Sepang test for the MotoGP guys went pretty well once the track dried out after overnight rains.
Top 5 were:

1 Lorenzo J., Yamaha Factory Racing  2:01.657
2 Pedrosa D., Repsol Honda Team  +0.346
3 Crutchlow C., Monster Yamaha Tech 3  +0.564
4 Spies B., Yamaha Factory Racing  +0.577
5 Rossi V., Ducati Team  +0.735

So the top five by less than a second on the first day. All the riders are happy with the bikes so far and
Rossi seems to very pleased with the new Ducati and the amount of adjustment that the new bike
allows. Since I'm a huge Rossi fan I have high hopes for the new bike and his determination to make
things work. The biggest news was of course that Stoner never made it out on track, Apparently he
was stretching before the test and his back locked up so he was unable to ride. I'm sure when he
gets on the bike for the second day of testing he will be right back at the sharp end of the standings.

Looking forward to more info tonight after day 2 is complete. Now I've got to load up a MotoGP review
dvd and watch the 2009 season over again.  :motonoises:

Day 2 of MotoGP testing and the results are in...

1 Casey Stoner Repsol Honda Team 2:00.895 - - 29

2 Ben Spies Yamaha Factory Racing 2:01.052  +0.157 37

3 Jorge Lorenzo Yamaha Factory Racing 2:01.068  +0.173 40

4 Dani Pedrosa Repsol Honda Team 2:01.508  +0.613 35

5 Cal Crutchlow Monster Yamaha Tech 3 2:01.565  +0.670 42

6 Hector Barbera Pramac Racing Team 2:01.788  +0.893 50

7 Valentino Rossi Ducati Team 2:01.886  +0.991 44

8 Alvaro Bautista San Carlo Honda Gresini 2:01.933  +1.038 46

9 Andrea Dovizioso Monster Yamaha Tech 3 2:02.160  +1.265 42

10 Nicky Hayden Ducati Team 2:02.354  +1.459 41

11 Stefan Bradl LCR Honda 2:02.414  +1.519 41

12 Karel Abraham Cardion AB Motoracing 2:02.598  +1.703 66

13 Katsuyuki Nakasuga Yamaha Factory 2:02.941  +2.046 40

14 Franco Battaini Ducati Team 2:04.311  +3.416 38

15 Colin Edwards NGM Mobile Forward Racing 2:05.603  +4.708 37

16 Ivan Silva Avintia Racing 2:10.297  +9.402 16

17 Jordi Torres Avintia Racing 2:11.893  +10.998 2

18 Robertino Pietri Avintia Racing 2:12.546  +11.651 5

No surprise that Stoner is already leading the group, Nice to see Spies right on his heels though.
Rossi still within 1 second so not too bad. Hayden did well but lost strength in the shoulder after
the first few laps.
The last couple of guys have the Kawasaki/ftr? bike and they apparently had engine trouble so didn't
get many laps before she let go.

Stoner/Honda fans should be very happy, Yamaha fans should be happy as well with both riders right
near the top. Ducati fans need to pray a little harder and hope the new bike has enough adjustment
built in to help get them closer.

Looking forward to day 3

Stoner/Honda is still the top dog with the Yamaha's nipping at his heels. The Ducati's are showing
signs that they are capable of improving so now we wait for the next Sepang test. It was also
reported that Hayden might go to the next Jerez test to get some more laps on the Duc if his shoulder
is up to it.

I hope we have some serious "battles" this year like they had in 08 & 09.  :motonoises:

Still will be  Stoner-Honda championship to lose this year.

They have the most confident and skilled rider in the paddock on probably the best bike available, along with a extremely hungry and motivated Honda. Its a scary combo facing everyone. 1000cc should also favor the Honda too since that V4 is such a monster.

As much as I like Spies as a rider and person, he needs to podium on a regular basis this season or he will be in serious danger of losing his ride., Crutchlow being the next likely candidate next to 99.

Rossi and company should do OK, but definitely not in championship running this year. They need a season to learn and dial in the new chassis.

I predict more runaway races from Stoner, everyone else fighting for 2nd on a regular basis. I hope I'm wrong though, the premier class needs more exciting racing.
