"Over the Pond XIV / 2016" ("It's "OtP" time again)
« on: January 16, 2016, 09:30:41 pm »
13+ years ago: we started ("Over the Pond to ye Olde Colonies") and sent Guy Young to ride with the GCE Club in Europe..
Since then we've sent 17 (COG and GCE) Traveler's "Over the Pond" to ride with their sister clubs in another Country.
Last year we sent Al Norcross and Charlie Gary to Europe to ride with the GCE club in the Netherlands/etc.
(I think their still grinning)  :great:

All of this was made possible by 2 GREAT Clubs! (COG and GCE)
BE VERY PROUD OF YOURSELVES!!!!!

This year we plan to do: "Over the Pond XIV / 2016"
We're gonna bring a GCEer (or 2) to the USA to ride with us at the COG National in Helen Georgia!  :great:

   Did I get your attention?

Currently; ("OtP XIV/2016") is starting to move..
Hans (OtP Boss) has said, "yes" lets try to do it again,
The "OtP" Team Members have started checking in,
Hans has send me the approx. Rules/Dates/etc for this years "OtP".
(He and I are currently reviewing and fine tuning them).
           {Don't tell Hans I sed this, but he makes lots of mistakes}
SOON, I (the "OtP" {loyal} Slave Laborer) will post them.....

AFTER their posted,,, "Over the Pond XIV / 2016" will officially start, and we will begin accepting Nominations for this years "OtP" Traveler..

Until then; start thinking about who you will nominate!!

As always, "OtP" can only happen with your help...
Will you help us make it possible?

More later,
 Ride safe, Ted

PS: "OtP 2016" will be centered around the National in Helen Georgia.
(I got word that the National Team is making some (err) special  plans for this years "OtP" Traveler).
           <evil grin>

Oh great...and I'm still licking my wounds from the last OtP run by this kind, benevolent, evil old codgger who can't spell anything write nor ride worth a h0ot. I'm still making repairs on the Flog-O-matic from last year.

I just want everyone to know I'm checking in cause I don't want to be flogged by my own invention.

Ha! We will be bringing Europeans to our model of a Bavarian village :))

They should feel right at home :) Unless they've never heard of Fireball (Jack Fire for those of is in TN)

I'm sure there will be plenty of homemade concoctions as well. BUT! Most importantly, I'm hoping they get to ride the twisties!

I'm here to help, Ted. Let us know who is coming and what language they speak - maybe Ewa can make a special calendar for them  :great:

Ted - I'm thinking of moving to Europe this year. If I do, can I be nominated for a free trip to the National?

Bet you're wishing you had thought of that one.   :))

Got to admit, I hadn't thought of that angle.
But, it wouldn't do me any good anyway....
One of the rules of "OtP" has always been, "OtP" Team members are not eligible....   <gloom>

"OtP" XIV (2016) "Eligibility Requirements"

NOTE: We ain't Lawyers, so if you have a question, or if you see a clerical mistake, ask us!
            We'll fairly/clearly answer any questions..

Why we do "Over the Pond";

"OtP" has always been our way of awarding club members that have worked for COG or GCE. We feel that the people that work for the clubs deserve this chance, for all they do to keep our clubs GREAT.
We've been able to send someone (almost every year) for 15 years.
We plan to continue doing "OtP", as long as we can, and for as long as the Clubs make it possible.

The rules (below) were developed so COG/GCE "workers" have a chance to go "Over the Pond".
They target all the "Workers" that work to keep the clubs going.
They include, but DO NOT aim the reward towards COG/GCE Leaders or Board.
(Workers explained; Members that put on events, hold a Club office, lead area rides, took on a role with considerable
responsibility for COG/GCE events, sponsor "OtP" Travelers, "etc").

NOTE: If you would like to become eligible for "OtP", step up and be a "worker".
All the club members would appreciate your efforts, and someday, "you" might be the "OtP" Traveler".

==========================================================================

This year,,, we're nominating GCE Members from Europe.  Below are the Eligibility requirements.

"Eligibility"

 1. "OtP" Team and past "OtP" Travelers are NOT eligible. (gloom, I hate rule #1)
 2. Nominee must be a "current" COG or GCE member.
 3. Nominee must have put on COG/GCE Events, Sponsored "OtP" Travelers, been a Team Leader on a COG/GCE National,
held a Club Office, taken on a position of responsibility at club events, or have an extended history of helping the Clubs.
(Bottom line; had to be a "Worker" for COG/GCE)
 4. Nominee will be required to fill out a questionnaire on themselves.
(The answers will be used to determine eligibility and as a means of introducing the Nominee to the club.
 5. Nominee must be willing (and able) to assume expenses "above "what is collected.
(approximate "out of pocket" trip expense may be $2000)
 6. Nominee must have (or be-able to get) a passport.
 7. Nominee is not to be a frequent traveler to US.
(We hope to send someone who has "never" rode in the US)
 8. Nominee must have time available for the trip.
         (approx. 2+ weeks)
 9. "Nominee/Traveler" must write a Post Ride Report about his trip for the club to read.
10. "Nominee/Traveler" may be asked to make a short presentation at the 2016 "GCE rally".
11. "Nominee/Traveler" must taste a tasty Delicacy at the COG National...
(NOTE: We will arrange a "special" delicacy to be used for tasting). <evil grin>
12. Nominee must be willing to sleep in a loud, disturbing, environment.
(for instance, near other COGgers snoring)
13. "Nominee/Traveler" must keep records of "OtP" funds used during his trip.

NOTE: Volunteer needed to share room with "Traveler".
Requirement's; "Must snore loudly" and/or "shower seldom".
(We want nothing but the best for our Traveler)
14 Connie (Traveler II) / 03 Connie (Buddy)
Gone but not forgotten; 87 and 00 Connies..

====================================================

Rules and Guidelines:

In an effort to assure safety, to assure that the bike "Lender" has a person with the necessary skills, and to give the Nominee's an idea of how "OtP" works, we've developed these rules and guidelines..

*** This year (2016) we are planning to Sponsor 1 "OtP" Traveler.
In the event of a tie vote we will have a run-off vote (between only the two nominee's) to determine the Winner.

("If" we Collect enough $$, "if" we can find a second motorcycle, and "if" we can make the thousands of arrangements,,, we will attempt to include the "Runner-up" in the ride with the "OtP Winner")..

1. During the nomination - all candidates - will provide information about riding skill/experience.
This is to include; years you have ridden a large displacement bike, your riding preferences
      (tourer/twisty/enthusiast/racer/sporty/squirrel/etc)

2. During the nomination - all candidates - will provide information about their physical capabilities.
(We added this so that Nominee's can determine if they are physically capable of such a trip, and to discuss concerns with the "OtP" Leads).

3. Traveler must have Medical Insurance. (In the event of an accident).

4. The selected Traveler will receive ("ALL" $$ we collect) to support the trip.
*(These $$ will be given to the Traveler prior to the trip).
      * Additional Funds "may" be received from Hosts throughout  the "OtP" Ride.
      *  The candidates must determine (and state to the OtP leads), they are capable/willing to supply additional money if
required.    (required to cover rest of the travel expenses)
       * (We think the additional $$ {out of pocket} will not be greater than $2000)

5. We ("OtP" Team leads) will work to arrange a motorcycle for the Traveler.
(We have always been successful in locating/find a Lender)

5a. The "Bike Lender" will be responsible of supplying a motorcycle that is safe to use for the trip.

5b. The "Traveler" is responsible for normal operating costs of the bike.
(*and must assure the bike is returned in the same condition it is received).
(In the event of a normal break down, another bike will be sought, and repair/transport costs determined between Traveler and Lender).

5c. (*) The "Traveler" is responsible for any damages to the bike while in his use.

6. Insurance; Arrangements must be made to cover the motorcycle in the event of an accident.
(Some motorcycle insurance may include medical insurance)

 7. Participation in the COG Rally (in Helen, Georgia), meeting COG Members, and having a GREAT time, is the purpose of this years "OtP"...

8. Travel period will be approx. 21 days - preferable arrival in US (approx. June 15th ). Probable departure (approx. June 29th).
(Actual dates will be determined during trip planning).

9. If the Traveler chooses to do additional sightseeing after his "OtP" Ride (we will try to assist).
(These additional travels are at the Travelers expense).
(In other words, if you decide to stay longer,,,,  "We'll try to help, You´re on Your own dime")

 10. The Traveler will need places to stay while in US. (many places)
        * We ("OtP" Team Leads) will work to arrange Lodging with COG Members so that the Traveler can meet and get to know his COG Hosts.
        * Hosts can/will assist with Additional Lodging needs.
        * Motel arrangements will be made when possible by Team leads or Hosts.

11. After arrival, the "OtP Winner" will travel from the bike pickup location (to be determined), to the COG-Rally, and return.
The ("OtP" Leads) will work with the "OtP Traveler" and Hosts,, to determine special sites for the Traveler to see, and to develop the route.

12. After the "OtP" ride, the Traveler is required to write a report of the trip.
(To be published in the Concourier and also at a webversion on the GCE-site).

13. During the trip, the Traveler is requested to keep a record of all "OtP" money received and used during their trip.
(The record keeping will make it easier for the "OtP" team to estimate {total costs} for future "OtP" "Travelers").

 14. After the trip, (if any donated funds remain) we ask the Traveler to return unused "OtP" Funds.
{to be used by the next Traveler}.
