Just to be fair
André - our "Eifel Twister" and "familyman" is a long year frequent participant of GCE events as well as gatherings of the German community. He organized and guided one of the German biggest meetings and overtook the hosting of the German forum from Wolfram Tege.   :c029:

He really did a lot for the club, and together with him I had thousands of happy kms on European roads, but he has a big disadvantage:

He doesn't invite me to be his pillion @ OTP 2018:smiley_confused1:

So, if you don't want me to come along as pillion, vote for him!

Over the years, I've met a lot of the "OtP" Travelers, and most didn't exactly understand the distances here...

Because I'm a TeXaN, I'll use TeXaS to help ya'll "visualize" what I'm taking about ;  <proud grin>  :Woot_Emoticon:

On your trip to Kerrville, one route might be; "enter Texas at El Passo and ride to Kerrville".

Now,,,  "Visualize this"
You wake-up in El Passo on Sunday Morning {and think your almost there}, "so, you" decide to go all the way to Kerrville that day.
                       Should be EZ,,, right??
     fyi; If you do that, the "direct" route is 489 miles / 787 Kilometers.. {approx. 1/2 way across Texas}

Hope that helps you visualize the distances a bit more?? :welcome:

Hey Ted, i understand about the looong and straight distances in TX, :-\ but you, Mark, and Dan have ridden with me, and you know about this: :motonoises: :motonoises:

380 kilometers, whats this? this is nothing in US. :rotflmao: but if you ride this in the european Alps,  :motonoises:you need a full long day for only 380 km in the twisties, and no highways... especially if you have some American guys to escort. >:( >:( It will feel for you like a speed of 100 mph, but you really did  35 mph. :bedtime2: :34:
Remember the day you rode behind me, and my bike runs only on three cylinders - and i was always too fast for you to follow me. every few kilometers, i must stop and wait... :) :)
follow me - if you can...

Remember the day you rode behind me, and my bike runs only on three cylinders - and i was always too fast for you to follow me. every few kilometers, i must stop and wait... :) :)

:sign0103: :sign0099:
It was my fault! I was too slow, as i had to move double number of working cylinders than you had.
The American guys behind me have been only so politely not to overtake.

The real story was: Sam, our dog, pulled me down at Dachau concentration camp, which we visited the day before and I broke some ribbs. That OTP tour for me then was „the tour of pain“.
Next morning I felt very tired (had no sleep) and could not lift my arm as my shoulder also was dislocated.
But Al and Ted helped me in my motorbike gear, put me on my bike and my injured arm on the handle bar.
Ted asked me if I can pull the clutch and yes, I could.
So he decided, that I‘m able to ride.
Finally I did it with the help of Al and Ted. All the way down to the Tour de France, back to Switzerland, Salzburg, Vienna, Bratislava, Praque, Dreden, Eisenach as well as the GCE Rally in NL.
Ted brought the beer whenever I needed one and Al helped me every morning to get off the bed and wash all the body parts I could not reach with my enjured arm  :08:.
He also was responible to push Ted on the „Blue Whale“ every day, as the battery was defect.

Hans-Peter brought you to town on Ria‘s VIAGRA to purchase just only one? new spark plug in order to get all 4 cylinders of your oldtimer running again.
We all together have been a great team

Yes, 380 kms is a lot on alpine pass roads within just one day.
But we did more - twice. 2012 with Darrell & Maureen, Brian, Gie and me and 2015 with Al, Charlie, Ted, Gie and others from Welshnofen resp. Deutschnofen to Attersee/Salzburg.

We passed some of the most well known pass roads within one day and arrived late.
Anette said: „Did you see the faces of your followers? They are grey!“ Only Gie was still in good condition!

Yupp, they were grey!
He didn't mention it was raining and we had tire spray all over us from following too closely...

OK, ok,,, {I'll admit} maybe it was for another reason.
(Try riding the Mountain passes at night on your first day in the Alps!!)
                   {Definitely gets your attention!!}
{And he didn't mention we all had to turn the 4 way flashers on, in order to see the guy in front of us at the highest pass/Grossglockner}.

Bernd, I didn't know Al was helping you wash body parts??
Maybe that's why he disappeared after his "OtP" trip??
                                       >:D

Ride safe, Ted

{Kloskner? [sp?]}.

Ted, you don't need to know everything  :))

Shall I tell the story when you slept with naked Al like a spoon in one bed?

The name of the highest pass road of Austria is not "Kloskner", it is Grossglockner.

And this is the story of our viking Þröstur:
For the very first time he shipped his 1400 GTR from Reykjavik, Iceland to NL in order to do a Europe ride together with his asian friend.
He also planned to attend at the GCE Rolling Rally 2016.

We met in Livigno and Þröstur was in my group from the beginning. He decided to guide the group.
The first day already was a disaster. One member of Mika‘s group had an accident: Patrick Gillilan and his wife. He broke his foot. Richard (OTP 2014) and I took care of them.

We had very nice days after this.
Before Þröstur startet his tour, for some reason he changed the wheel bearings of his nearly new bike.
Something must went wrong.
One morning suddenly he stopped because he heared noises from the front wheel bearing.
After some tests, we decided to continue our ride.

At noon we arrived at he highest point of the whole Rally: Col de la Bonette, France
From this point I switched on my GoPro and followed the very long nice long road downhill.
Many kms later I noticed tjhat I‘m riding alone. I stopped and waited. After a while Axel came but nobody else. I told him to wait and rode back. At the next junction I met Russ and Attila also waiting for their rear rider. finally I had to ride up all the way up to Col de la Bonnet to find Þröstur at the most highest and most remote point of the entire tour with as broken front wheel bearing.

After having some  :sign0023: :ecomcity:, Richard overtook Þröstur‚s pillion rider and we started to ride downhill very slowly. it worked and after collecting the others of the group we arrived the next town and got an hint where we can find a repairshop (for cars). But they did not have the right tool to remove the front wheel axis.
I knowed that the needed tool was in the bike which Walter borrowed to Ted‘s friend in the other riding group. After a while, this group passed our place and we showed them the international emergency sign.
But the just waved back and did not stop  :41:

We devided our group and folloiwed the more save valley roads (not mountain passes) very slowly.
After a long deviation we finally arrived our hotel lately.

Much later Gie‘s group with Steve Cook and Chris Baum arrived also with technical problems.
André Schaefer also had problems with his cooling fan thermostate switch.
-> next day was tech session for some riders of the group. Fortunately we stayed at that hotel for two nights.

Back to Þröstur: A lot of riders dropped their bikes during that challanging GCE Rolling Rally.
Also I did it twice. It was Þröstur who lifted it up all the time. Fortunetely I mounted crash bars before.

The second time, also Axel tried to help. Þröstur lifted the bike from the left side and Axel wanted to support from the other side. Suddenly Axel yelled out loud. He had his foot under the hot exhaust pipe, and his boot was melding - ouch!  :34:

I'm a little angry!
What kind of campaign !?
It will be personal.
Last year at the GTR friends meeting in Kiefersfelden I met many nice people who also welcomed me warmly. How else could I be nominated? I did not do it myself.
The basic idea of the OtP event is, after all, those who are not able to afford themselves to be able to travel.
That you have to earn the participation through a lot of work and financial commitment I did not know.
@ Ralf
If many here in the forum think like YOU, I do not understand your fear😨!
After all, you've already won as good as!
OtP should be fun, our life is serious enough!
