Super!  I can't wait....I just won't worry about it and let things work out... :)

Tell her to relax, (because of the way the trip is set up), she doesn't have to ride every day.  I think we're at the motels a minimum of 2 days each.

So she can relax and sightsee in the towns when we're not moving between motels. But the scenery is beautiful in the Alps, and she'll probably want to ride...

Last year, the GCE folks were great! Most speak English.  Wife's got along fine. Judy made a lot of friends.

Ok folks,,,, times almost up. If your considering the ride, decide NOW!!!!

Ride safe, Ted

I think I need to unsubscribe from this topic.  As usual, I can't afford to go and reading about everyone who is going is just adding to my Winter PMS.  :truce:  Y'all ride an Alpine mile for me.  :motonoises:

I received a note from Bernd today.
He's working on routes, and things to see as we are going and coming from the Rally.
Heck, just that is worth the $$.

The Rally itself is pure desert!!!

I've picked up an international driver's license, made sure my bike insurance would cover while riding in Europe and that the auto club policy included all of western Europe.  Almost ready.... :beerchug:

Now, it's more beautiful!!!
(and warmer)

Apparently oil prices are going up and (as a result), ticket prices.

Hopefully the others were able to find decent ticket prices?

NOTE: To those that haven't read the whole tread,,,, 11 of us are going to Europe for the Rally.
(ie: 11 are going to be able to draw a line thru "Europe/Alps" on their bucket list)  :D

I REALLY wish all of you could go with us!!!

I was asked to add detail to my last post.....So:

The Auto Club I signed up with is the General German Automobile Club or Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club commonly know as ADAC.  It is the European equivalent of Triple A.  To join ADAC you must have a residence in Germany.  (I figured breakdown insurance was pretty important.)

Alternatively, Triple A has agreements/discounts with some Automobile Clubs in Europe.  France, Germany, Italy and Switzerland are among them.  For some more details try AAA Exchange - International Clubs.  A quick glance showed that Germany (ADAC) offers reciprocal towing and roadside assistance to AAA members while Italy offers roadside assistance only.

I recommend that at a minimum folks get the International Driver's Permit from Triple A. It’s good in Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy, Lichtenstein and a lot of other countries.   Carry it along with your state driver’s license.  Make sure that both are endorsed for motorcycles.  (An IDP or local license for each country is required.)

I took out an insurance policy with Mirascon, which provides coverage for US Military, DoD Civilians and NATO that reside here.  Insurance for short periods of time, like the Rally is available from any number of agencies.  The insurance companies provide a green card as proof of insurance.  While not required to be carried in the countries we will be visiting, it is a good idea to have in on your person since it seems to be internationally recognized as meaning that your insurance meets the minimum requirements.

For rentals, I’m sure that the rental company will offer their recommended insurance. An example I pulled off a blog is Mototouring. The charge for liability for 15 days would be just under 100 euros.  Full coverage/comprehensive would be much more.

Perhaps some of the others who are going can share what they have found....I'll update as I find out more.

In my case' I'll be riding Bernd's LT, so no rental for me.
The plan is to add full coverage to it while I'm there and I'll cover the costs.

I got my International Driver permit at AAA last year. Good folks.
I didn't join AAA at that time.
Are you saying if we join AAA (here) it would cover us (towing etc) while in Europe?

Ralf reposted the video's below in another discussion.
[Below, reply #7.]
They are vid's of us last year.
I suggest all look at them.
Particularly the second video beginning at the 19 minute mark and the 3rd video/all.

Those sections show some of the {err} interesting twists and turns we will be experiencing this time.

....

In reference to AAA, the amount of coverage is dependent upon the country.  Per the AAA website, roadside assistance and towing is offered for AAA club members for visiting riders in Germany for stays less than 90 days if I recall correctly), while the AAA partner club in Italy offers roadside assistance only...no towing.  Other countries...other AAA partner clubs offer varying levels of reciprocal service.  Check out the link I provided (AAA Exchange-Internantional Clubs in the previous post) to see what is offered and to get phone numbers to plug in your cell.

Be prepared for sticker shock for full coverage (called comprehensive here in Germany).  I called a couple of the companies offering 'green card' insurance to get a quote for the 15 days of the rally.  It was pretty expensive...

I really enjoyed those videos....reminds me of my Navy days in the simulators.  During workups for a deployment, we (ship driver's) would practice entering and leaving ports in very realistic simulators with actual footage / CGI of the ports we expected to visit.   :beerchug:

Anyone bringing helmet comms (bluetooth) with them?  I'm using my SENA 20S if not only for the radio.

I'm considering to bring a Scala Rider Team Set.
I have 3 headsets, might let others use 2.

NOTE: These are only Intercom. Work bike to bike, but only for about 100 - 200 yds.

Can they be paired with yours?

After Brussels, what's the current attitude over there?
Are the Germans etc all stirred up?

Haven't tried pairing it with a Scala, but it is supposed to be able to pair with most others out there.

As far as German attitude due to the bombings...I really can't tell any difference.  The entire nation is on holiday for the next 4 days.   I'm curious as well.
