GCE aranging a Rolling Ralley in Europe next year
« on: September 18, 2015, 05:18:13 pm »
I decided to post this in case some of you are interested in a Spectacular Ride? (mid July 2016)

Our Sister Club; GCE (GTR Club of Europe) is doing a Rolling Rally next year in July.
The Route will be on some of the best Mountain Passes in Southern Europe!!
      9 days of Heaven!!       https://sites.google.com/site/gcerally2016/

All, (even if not interested in going) DO look at the presentation Video!!!!
https://sites.google.com/site/gcerally2016/home/event-presentation-video
     Wow!!!!!   :bravo_2:
NOTE: fyi; After the flight; Biggest cost item would be the bike rental...
I checked and found that bikes can be rented easily, but they ain't cheap!

Ride safe, Ted

PS: I'm considering the trip, But I'm not sure if I can do it. (because of $$ and I haven't asked the "Boss").
         (Don't tell Judy!!)   ;)

I'm hoping to find a way that I can do this but time is short for a decision.  I was planning on joining Trans-Atlantic BikeShare, World Wide to try and avoid the need to rent a motor.  But a check of their website suggesst they may have suspended operations and might not be back up in time. :(

The following is from the GCE rally web site.

Quote
Since there are many hotels, rooms management are handled centrally by the organizer.

We have booked a number of double/twin rooms in five different 3-star(***) hotels in:

14th-17th July     3 nights    Livigno, Italy
17th-19th July     2 nights    Oberwald, Switzerland
19th-20th July     1 night     Susa, Italy
20th-22nd July     2 nights    Castellane, France
22nd-24th July     2 nights    Menton, France

Average rate in double/twin room is approx. 59,00 EUR / person per night.
The rate above includes bed & breakfast.

To ensure your participation, register on our Rally homepages "Registration form"
Please register a.s.a.p. Places are limited and we operate on first come, first serve basis...

Binding registration prior to January 31st 2016.

Small deposit maybe needed at February 15th 2016.
You will receive payment instructions with your registration confirmation.

I plan to attend.
I know of 2 others that may be there.

I know or can get more detailed info from the GCE team..

Is anyone else interested?   :)

I'm still working on finding a way to do this.  But I owe Vicki a trip to Italy and she would have to okay my going if I can't afford to do both next year. Right now it is not looking good for either trip.  :'(

I'm in Mike's shoes. Showed the video to Harriet. She wants to go to Italy so...... I would have to take another week to see the southern sites then head to the alps. Doesn't look like a go, especially by myself. Looks like a nice ride through those mountain passes.

Seems simple to me;   :great:
Arrive in Germany... Start 2 tours...
Vicki and Harriet can see Italy/etc and share a room.
Mike and Bob can ride bikes (see Italy/etc) and share a room...
      Meet in Italy...
Then;  Start 2 tours (again)...
Vicki and Harriet can see Italy/etc and share a room.
Mike and Bob can ride bikes (see Italy/etc) and share a room...
      Meet in Germany...
             :)

I posted my first (blue) note (sorta) tongue in cheek...
But that is exactly when we did this year.
Judy and I arrived as tag-a-longs for Al and Charlie's OtP Ride.
After we arrived, Judy traveled with Richards wife (Renate) or Bernd's wife (Annette) and they did what they choose.
I traveled with Richard and Bernd (Al and Charlie). We rode bikes where we choose.
We met the wife's every couple of days.
Everyone did what they wanted and everyone really enjoyed it!

After the tours, Judy and I traveled with the GCE club to Holland for 4 days.
We then few home, after saying our goodbye's to a lot of really great friends...
Yes, I know,,,, All of this sounds very expensive, but because of cost sharing and the GCE Folks hosting us, the costs were not as bad as I feared...

I never thought I would get to go to Europe.
COG and GCE made it possible.....
After our trip, I didn't think I would ever do so again.
And then I learned about next years,,,  GCE Rolling Rally..

From our trip, I liked the Mountains the best,,,,, So, I intend to try to do it 1 more time...

Which is why I decided to spread the word....
It's the chance of a lifetime, and (because the GCE club) has made arrangement's, it is a bit less expensive. (and less daunting as hotels etc are arranged, and you will have friends there).

If anyone is interested, (send me a PM), I can give you an estimate of what I think it will cost.
(And I'll talk your ears off about our trip....)  <evil grin>

I passed through Bretagne in the west of France, as well as Dordogne province sort of in the middle south of Paris and the Chateau and Wine Regions. Went into Dijon to see if I could find where they make Dijon mustard.  :rotflmao:

Ended up in Nice with a trip into northern Italy. And lots of laying on the beaches girl watching.

The ZX11 had a lot of fun that month. And turned Michelin rain slicks into full slicks.

Hey Ted,
I was one of the guys that was questioning you on your last trip.
Looks like a great trip but I don't think I'm going to be able to swing it.
Too many francs, I mean euros. Plus not sure of jumping on a new to me bike 2up and hitting the alps. Been dreaming about doing something like this for years. Too bad bike shipment and hassle is so much. Will let you know if something changes

I did a guestimate of expenses.
Tried to guess costs based on the COG (Frugal) plan...

Ride safe, Ted

Rooms are shared, cost about $60 ea. per night. x 10 {nights} = $600  (w/Wife $1200)
Gas will probably be about $40 a day.                      x 10 = $400  (w/wife  same)
Food/beer guestimate; $40 - 50 a day.                     x 10 = $500  (w/Wife $1000)
If you travel coach, expect about $1000 for flight.              $1000   (w/Wife $2000)
Bike rental; (guestimate) $1000-$2000 I Assumed highest  $2000   (w/Wife same)
Passport/international license; $100 approx.                        $100   (w/Wife $200)
Travel insurance; $50                                                          $50   (w/Wife $100)
Trinket's and shirts; $200                                                   $200  (w/Wife $400)
Phone; (we made an arrangement thru Verizon)                     $40  (w/Wife $80)

                                                                                  Total; $4890   (w/Wife $7380)

I would highly recommend making the trip if you can swing it.  I've been riding the Alps for years and there is nothing comparable to it.  I can honestly say you will not regret it.

If you think your going you MUST make a decision in the next couple of days.
Registration is supposed to end on the 31st!!!
Plus, they may close it sooner as they have a maximum number of openings available.

NOTE: Don't worry about deciding bike rental, arrival location, etc at this point.
Just decide if your going, and sign up. (ASAP)
     https://sites.google.com/site/gcerally2016/registration_form
Bike rental, arrival location, etc, can be decided in the coming months.

Yup....My wife said she wanted to go....Even after I told her, how much riding it would be...I'm not sure she understood!  Guess I'll have to get her on the bike more often between now and the Rolling Rally.

Tell her to relax, (because of the way the trip is set up), she doesn't have to ride every day.
I think we're at the motels a minimum of 2 days each.
So she can relax and sightsee in the towns when we're not moving between motels.
But the scenery is beautiful in the Alps, and she'll probably want to ride...

Last year, the GCE folks were great!
Most speak English.  Wife's got along fine.
Judy made a lot of friends.
