Coffee at Suches GA
« on: May 13, 2017, 08:58:04 pm »
Decided to go for a Coffee ride to Suches. The forecast was rain for the afternoon. I nevertheless decided to take the historic Route 9 to Two Wheels of Suches.
Holding my cup of Coffee and posting this.
More pictures to come.

Great job,
That first pic should let you know, we have long supported them... my first COG ride was there, many years ago..many. many years.

Did they still have tripple espresso chokolate brownies?
They were the bomb back then, eat two at 7 a.m. and you were still twitching at 11 p.m., 600 miles away.... :))

I'll be down tyghere sometime this year... god willing, and the creek don't rise... :great:

Great shots Ram. Sometimes those of us who live around here get so used to seeing those scenes that we take them for granted. If you havent' found it yet, check out Hwy 180 from Suches, just take your time the first time. Don't forget to take the side trip up Brasstown Bald Mtn.

Hwy 9 is one of the roads the local moonshiners used to run liquor from the hills down into Atlanta during Prohibition. It's a nice ride. Dahlonega (where the gold roof is on Price Hall at the University of North Georgia) is the site of the first U.S. gold rush and that gold roofed building (as well as the Ga state capitol) are covered in Georgia mined gold.

You have a very artistic eye and that Connie really frames those shots. Thank you for sharing.

Ram.  Are you going to make it to the Ride to Eat next Saturday at Jim's Smokin' Q in Blairsville?  There will be a few COGgers there.

I sure will be coming there. I wanted to get a feel of the concours on the mountains before the week and this ride has given the confidence.

Last year when I went there I hadn't noticed the banner. The kitchen was in prep so I just had the coffee and came back. Of course I stopped by  one of the grocery shops that sold ethanol free gas as well.

Thank you Ron. I took route 9 all the way up and down. It was a nice ride and having panniers, I could fit my camera gear. I didn't know that info about the gold.
I had taken 180 last year on my Boulevard and it didn't feel natural to turn that. The turns are better on Connor so I will take it easy until I get used to the roads. The way I got the comfort was to shift down gear, complete the turn and Rev up and shift.

When riding in the mountains (on any 4 cylinder machine) you really shouldn't be in any gear higher than 3rd (and 2nd is better). Keeping your RPM higher will improve your engine braking capability when you roll off the throttle. Keep your RPM in the 4000-8000 range. Your C14 will easily run the mountains in 2nd gear.

nice shots Ram.
You might consider a tank bag. Makes it much handier to keep the camera than the bags.
I'm glad you appreciate the great roads you guys have all around you.
Just be wary of Hwy 60 from Suches to Morganton... sneaky tight turns and some don't make all the way  :'(
I wish I lived closer to you and Ron...

Most folks don't appreciate the fact that there are TWO parts to 180. There's the hard core part from Suches to Vogel State Park-several 1st gear turns there and watch for bicycles, turkeys, and the occasional bear.  The second part is from 129 north of Vogel to Hwy 75 (?) which passes Brasstown Bald. Lots of sweepers and about a 55 mph road. Nice just to lay into that and cruise.

@Jorge - come on up. There is still a house or two in the area....  :motonoises:

Great photos, Ram! Maw Kaw may come calling soon to get promotional shots for their bikes if you keep this up.

By all means, hope to see you July 15 in Blairsville. It's an early event (10 AM) but promises to be a good time.
