Quebec road status - Montreal area - 2018
« on: March 16, 2018, 11:53:28 am »
For those planning to travel in Quebec, avoid the Island of Montreal. Major road work is ongoing all through the year, and some areas are particularly hazardous. Of note:

- Orange cone hell all the way to downtown, high density traffic on reduced width two lanes, rough (and I mean ROUGH) pavement conditions.
- Bottlenecks all over the south shore entry ways (all bridges). Expect gridlock at rush hour in the afternoon. North shore entry ways aren't as bad going in or out outside rush hour.
- Major interchange work means weekend routes are often deviated and detours poorly indicated.

If you are travelling to Quebec City or the Gaspe coming in from NY state or Vt, I recommend taking Hwy 30 across to the south shore to avoid the Island altogether and on the north side, the 440.

Please visit this site for the province's current road condtions to plan a pleasant trip:
