Arkansas Fall Ride
« on: April 07, 2016, 09:11:59 pm »
I have set the Arkansas Fall ride to take place in Morrilton, Arkansas on September 22,23,24.  I asked them to block the rooms and they said they would but warned me that there was some kind of event running that same weekend. Something to do with the Paper Mill. So she said we need to book early because everything will be crowded, motel wise.
America's Best Value Inn
Address: 356 AR-95, Morrilton, AR 72110
Phone:(501) 354-0181
This is very close to Petit Jean State Park that has a wonderful bluffview of the Arkansas River. Down the road further is Mt Magazine and Mt Nebo and Highway 7.
I have also secured us a reservation to eat Saturday 9/24 at Colton's Restaurant  in Morrilton. This is the same chain that we ate last year in Russellville
.

Because there is another major event going on in Morrilton, AR at the same time as the SC Arkansas Fall Regional Rally, the Event Hosts have decided to change the event location.

We will be returning to Jacks in Mountain View, Ark.  Rooms have been blocked at Jacks for this event.
The new hotel information is;

Jacks Fishing Resort & Motel
212 Hayden Heights Rd
Mountain View, AR  72560

Thanks, Butch. I know there was/is a paper mill in Pine Bluff. Is there one in Morrilton, too?

Mt. Magazine is cool! They have an awesome hotel/restraunt there. I have personally stayed and have eaten there. Very nice.

For anyone who has not had the pleasure of riding Push Mountain, you've been missing out!
It's on my personal "Top Three" all time phenom roads.

Hwy 7 is also a must.

Love Arkansas.

They are probably talking about War Eagle happening that weekend.
I have also been to that mill. That's a cool place to visit, but gets totally crazy when that event is going on!
(Women love it! It's like a huge swap meet event that covers more than an entire county...)

Another big event that happens along about that time is Bikes/Blues/BBQ... a HUGE Harley event.
Usually draws over 250,000 HD riders. Originates in the Rogers,Ar area, but covers 2/3rds the state for the weekend it's happening. I've made the mistake of riding Arkansas when that's going on. Never have I seen so many Harleys... everywhere. I went home with my ears ringing...

Harrison's also a good place to get a room and ride out from. Push Mountain and that loop makes a great day ride from there.

Arkansas rocks!

There is a mill between Morrilton & Petti Jean, slightly south off 9. BBQ & War Eagle have no effect on Morrilton, there in the n/w corner at Springdale.

I sorry, but Petti Jean & Mt. Magazine are way over rated. There only good for camping/picinicing & gawking over the edge. The riding is no good getting there & once there the speed is very slow. Strictly enforced!

Hwy 7 is over rated & always clogged up with cruisers. The 20 mile section north of Jessieville is very good though.

Jim has the right idea, go north of I-40. We have some very good roads to the north. Push Mt. is just one of many.

Hi Cliff,

I agree with you that there are lots of times that hwy 7 can be busy with cruisers. Drag...
BTDT! Lol

I ride a lot around there with a friend from KC, and one thing we figured out that helps to avoid a lot of the traffic is to ride it during the week, and avoid the weekends, if possible.

'Course, he's retired, and I'm self-employeed... so it helps us do that.

We've been fortunate several trips doing that, and it makes it feel like we almost have ALL the roads to ourselves!

That stretch of road that leads north away from Mt. Magazine that they say is "similar to the Dragon" is cool... but only for about 2-3 miles, then it's over. I've ridden the Dragon... that road's relentless!

Yea Cliff I agree. I grew up in Morrilton. The high school auditorium is named after my dad. I live in Mountain Home now and ride Push Mountain Road just about every weekend. It's great. I love HWY 9 from Sylamore to Melbourne. Had a great time riding back with you and Bobby after last years Spider ride and look forward to your event this year. I'll probably show up Thursdsy night and pitch tent. That's no problem I hope?

Bob, We have many good roads with almost no traffic even on weekends. Everyone seems to want to hit Nebo, Magazine, Pettit Jean & hwy 7. If you really want to ride they need to be avoided.

Example off the top of my head from Morrilton. I-40 west to Atkins, then 105 n. to 27. 27 to 14. 14 to Mt View. Then 9 to Shirley, take 16 w back to 27. While on 14 can run up the bottom 1/2 of 341, then down. Short quick trip with very little traffic & many curves.

Next time you're over this way look me up.

I'll probably show up Thursdsy night and pitch tent. That's no problem I hope?

Bruce

Not a problem, at least 1/2 will show up on Thurs. Maybe a couple in on Wed.

See ya here!

Sounds great, Cliff! I'll do that.

My friend, Bohn and I try to get over there 2-3 times a year.

Next time we're headed over, I'll let ya know.

Last November, Bohn and I rode Push Mtn. Just as we were turning to head up, there was a group of other riders that got in behind us. Bohn's a pretty conservative rider, and he wanted me to "take on off and have some fun" as he called it. So I did.

There were 2 guys on black C14's in that group. All I know was, I took off, and they hung with me for a couple miles, and then I didn't see them anymore.

I love that road.

Look forward to riding with ya, Cliff!

Butch,
I called the hotel to make my reservations today.  Lady said they are filling up quickly because of that paper mill function during that time.  For what its worth..

Thanks,

Is this a camping event or hotels? My schedule actually seems to align with this event and I was thinking of making reservations.

Both,

There's a campground within walking distance of the event hotel.

I just made my reservations, I'll get the camp info and post shortly.

30 Kamper Ln, Morrilton, AR 72110
morriltonrvpark.com
(501) 354-8262

is the campground/RV park near the motel.

Come join us with what will likely be GREAT WEATHER and great roads out the kazoo.  :motonoises: :motonoises: ;D

This group is upwardly mobile hotel stayers.   ;D

My Cycle Chanteuse, Pamela, has not yet learned the virtues of camping, although I force her to watch "The Long Way Around" and "The Long Way Down" incessantly.  :hee20hee20hee:

This location makes it easy to get to the great roads and also has nearby libation availability.

Come join, I have a good handle on AR routes for peg scraping and great riding.  :motonoises: :great: :beerchug:

I plan to come over & ride with ya'll. I'll be sleeping in my own bed though, being it's only 20 miles away.

With the swap meet going on you can forget crossing Petit Jean Mountain. All the good riding is north anyway.

Thanks Jim, I didnt even think of that.

I just changed my hotel reservations. With doing some research, it appears that the Americas beest is not such a nice place. Ive seen a pic or two that steered me away. Plus some negative reviews was the corker! I am going to stay at the Super at at exit 108, Hwy 9. With the AAA rate, its only $60 night, and has a lot of 5 start reviews. I don't mean to ruffle any feathers. It's just my opinion and I don't like scuzzy hotels.

:??: Guys I am sorry but I have changed this ride back to Jack's Resort 212 Hayden Heights Rd. Mountain View, Ar 72560. Phone (870)585-2211.
The reason is the Hotel people have told me time after time that people would have to reserve their room early and I was afraid some people would not do that and be left out. The deal is that the local paper mill does some modifications to the plant and for a 2 week period there are a load of contractors in from out of town and will fill up the hotels. As Marty pointed out after he talked to them it probably makes more sense for them to cater to the people that are going to stay 2 weeks rather our 2 or 3 days.
This event was changed from it's normal date to the date that affects us kind of suddenly.
Sorry for the confusion. I have blocked 14 rooms at Jack's and I reserved one. I intend to grill hamburgers on Saturday night like the last event at Jack's.

Sounds good, Butch. I like Jack's. Plus, it's further north and may be a bit cooler - 95°F instead of 105°F.  :-\

I'll ride up & camp. Just out of reach for riding back & forth to home.

September is going to be busy. 3 events in a row for me, RWTW, Spider Ride & this. All 3 in different regions, s/e, n/c, & s/c  :)!
