Title: 3rd Annual Sport-touring school at Jennings GP
Post by: Douglas on October 01, 2018, 12:18:57 am
This event is open for signups on the COG calendar signup page (DO NOT sign up on Jennings website)

3nd Annual Concours Owners Group Sport-touring School:

JenningsGP, Jennings, FL, February 8-10, 2019. This annual event is designed to be educational and fun. The training is individual enough that newer riders can learn new skills, while seasoned riders capitalize upon their existing skill-sets.

This track was designed with large safe runoffs. Void of cars, intersections, trees and guardrails you will be able to implement new concepts from the classroom with the safety of a purpose built beginners track. You will be coached on the track where you will practice the theories taught in the classroom. This format enables practicing new concepts like trail braking, late apex cornering, and hanging off. These are the theories books are written about.

What this is: An advanced rider training course for those looking to learn more than public roadways can safely permit.

What this is not: Track/Racing School. While this does take place at a beginner’s racetrack, this is not race school and racing will not take place at this event.  :truce:

You have to slow down if you want to practice new concepts and make new skills. Skill comes first, speed comes later. Hence, you have to slow down if you want to go fast.

Who should attend: If you have more fun in the turns than you do on the straights….If you get a thrill out of precisely carving the corners….If you get that Zen feeling when you’ve mastered your favorite road…or if you have ever scared yourself... Then this event is for you.

There will be three designated groups. Novice is for those who have never been to a track. Intermediate is for those seasoned track guys (you know who you are), and there is an Expert group. Lets just say the latter need no help. We know who you are too  :-\ You will have a former CCS/WERA licensed racer teaching in the classroom, and there will be licensed racers serving as rider coaches in Novice and Intermediate. They are there to help you and love what they do. They have mastered the concepts you will be learning in this controlled and welcoming environment.

We have been approved for a discounted rate of….wait for it….$132.50/rider for the first 10 COG'gers who sign up. :) Yes, that’s cheaper than a regular track day. I just can’t stop saying WOW. After the first 10 the price will be $150. Take note that Jennings offers Novice school on certain days. Their price is $275/day. Did I mention I'm making no money doing this? Early signups are encouraged since we will fill this event sometime in January.

It will be assumed you are in novice group unless you speak with me (Doug Re) personally. Trust me there’s no shame in being in Novice. You will get the most help here and no questions are considered stupid. This is where we all start.

THESE RULES ARE STRICT: (Please do not contact me requesting exceptions as it will not help) Full-face helmets are mandatory. Modular are not permitted, ever. Leather suits/gloves/boots are mandatory and available the day-of at the Track Shop for approximately $60/$10/$20. There will be plenty of gear in every size for us the day of the event. Last year I was able to help out with extra suits. I will have a 44 and a 46 this year for free loan as well. (Both are now spoken for)

Bike: Your tires should be 75% new. All glass and lights must be covered with blue painters tape (available at Home Depot/Lowes/Amazon/Ebay) and there must be no leaks. You can bring whatever bike you want. A C14 or a C10 makes the best trainer if that’s your usual ride. Something with poor ground clearance and floorboards however does not. Please choose to bring a bike you regularly ride. It would be a travesty if you borrowed a track bike, only to leave the event thinking that the new skills you learned is possible only on a track bike.

Camping/Lodging:

Camping for the weekend is included with your gate price of only $10 payable when you get there. Not breaking the bank here…. Keep in mind that if the track raises their prices $0.01 I apologize, but they make the rules. We plan to have a modest fire  :campfire: in the evenings. What better than camping with a fire with your bike and friends at the track you’re riding?  :beerchug: The track gates lock each night at 9:45pm sharp. If you get there at 9:46 you will be delighted by the Jennings discounted rate at Days Inn, Lake Park, GA. RV’ers will have hookups and there are indoor bathrooms/showers for everybody that are open 24 hrs.

Other good stuff:

There will be a professional photographer at the track who will have track photos of you available for your purchase at the end of the day. We also have food concessions for breakfast and lunch available and Dennis makes a great burger.  :103: His prices are reasonable and his american fare is excellent. You may also bring your own snacks/meals/BBQ/portable kitchen (Roman). 1 gallon of drinking water/rider/day is recommended. Don't forget adult beverages for the evenings. Would we forget that  :-[

Arrival:  You need to get to the track Friday evening, Feb 8th, 2019 early enough to set up your bike/pit/camping area. We will then do the well know "track walk" 45min before sunset (time determined by Google). Riders meeting is Saturday morning at 8:30am. First group will be in class at 9am, followed by track time. Each hour will consist of a 20 minute debriefings in pit row, followed by 20 minutes in class, then 20 minutes on track. You will have 7 debriefings, 7 class sessions, and 7 track sessions. Trust me, you will get a workout mentally and physically. Come with a clear head and be prepared to be enlightened, and work hard. This is not a spectator type thing. You WILL practice each concept taught in class at designated areas on track.

Saturday night dinner: At these low prices please understand that COG won't buy you dinner. However, many of us really enjoy going to Rodeo (Authentic Mexican) restaurant at Exit 5 Lake Park, GA Saturday evening. Ted says the margaritas there are the best.

Then plan on camping trackside Saturday evening. After all, a campfire and adult beverages taste better at the track you were on!

Some enthusiastic COGgers enjoy signing up for Sunday as well. Heck, I've even seen some COGgers stay into Monday, however, the COG event officially starts Friday at sunset, and ends Sunday at whatever time you desire.

Everybody attending should memorize the track map prior to arrival. Doing so enables you to learn the skills rather than learn the track. Bring your track map and pens to the track walk and the classroom. You will be adding to it as you learn. I still have my track map for every track I've ever been on.

As always, you are welcome to attend this event even if you don't sign up, but you will be a spectator and you can not change your mind the day-of. Spectators need only pay the gate fee $10 and feed themselves. Showers are still advised.  :rotflmao: If you wish to glean some knowledge by spectating you may, but keep in mind that attempting these things on a public roadway without coaching is like entering the ring w Mike Tyson after watching a televised boxing match. Don't try this on your own. Your results may vary. Always look both ways...

Track location:
Location: Jennings GP 4960 NW Co Rd 152, Jennings, FL 32053 (Last exit in North FL )

If you ‘go where you look' and and ‘turning your head turns the bike,’ imagine what your shoulders and hips can do…  ;)

Video the of last years event: https://youtu.be/tQuTk4sIh1s
In our usual fashion the comradery is as much the event as the event itself.

Thanks for doing this again Doug! I had a great time last year & plan to be back again. Keeping my fingers crossed for decent departure weather.

For those that have never been on a track this is a great experince. You will learn a lot & gain some confidence. Heck, I think Ted even got faster & smoother.  :nananana:

The smaller of the 2 suits you had Doug fit me perfect. Hint hint.  :)

Ted: Yes
Cliff: You asked first so you got it.  Now all you have to do is ride through 400 miles of pouring rain to wear it :57:

I'm zoning in on one of two different weekends in February. Waiting a couple weeks to be sure there are no taboo weekends for anybody, weddings, anniversaries, not that you couldn't celebrate by doing getaway laps  :)

Please spread the word on this so I can choose our weekend and get the sign-ups page posted up......

Thanks Doug!  :great: That helps a lot.

It's a little over 800 miles for me. 400 doesn't even get me across Mississippi.  :??:

If it's not the last weekend the wife might be able to ride down with me & watch.  Most likely will be way to cold for her though.

Thanks Doug. I'll start my diet now..
I guess my preference would be middle/end of the month.
Give it a bit more time to warm up for those that live a bit more North...

Sent a note to Jim S. I think he'll be posting soon that he plans to be there on his FJR with us too.  :-[

Yea, I know; There goes the neighborhood!

Doug, this is awesome. I had a great time there last year even though I didn't ride the track. I have a question for you. I realize  this is a sport bike track, but, I would love to get the opportunity to try the Spyder on the track. Not sure they would permit my bike on the track with the sport bikes. Do you think they would be open to allowing me to ride during the lunch break with an escort. Of coarse I would need to wear all the gear that they require. While I was up at the RWTW this year, three of us did the dragon. Surprisingly, I had no trouble keeping up with the guys. In that environment I can accelerate and corner as well as they can. On the open road though I eat their dust as I top out at around 110 mph and they out accelerate me. Anyway, I know It's a long shot but I want to ask anyway. Either way, I'm in again this year. The comradery is worth it.

Hello Doug,

Sounds like it's for me  Add my thanks to the others for you doing this event.

I'm stoked and my ride now is a Ducati Diavel Chromo that really outperfoms what I was able to do with my FZ-09. It's time I learn the dozens of things I'm probably doing wrong so I'm registered for this school.

RIDE FUN!

Good news from the track! If we get ten more sign-ups before January 15th the track will give us another discount. The next ten will get it for $135/each  rider. If we don't get the next ten then it will be $150/rider. So....we are charging the next 9 sign-ups $150 until we hit the 20 mark. If we hit that before Jan 15, we will reimburse $15 each for signups 11-20, making their signup price $135.

Last year we had 18 sign-ups. So if you haven't signed up yet and want the discount, get your buddy to sign up with you. It's like getting a free dinner at Rodeo Mexican  :beerchug: Did I mention the novice school at normally $275?  :-\

Post by: Douglas on October 17, 2018, 12:50:23 am
If you log in it shows the number. The first 10 already got it for $132.50. If we get 10 more they will get discounts that brings it to $135. I will be in the classroom again. We have CCS and WERA racers who will be on track coaching. Wendy will be in class and on track again. I will pay for her separately so I don't take a discount spot from anybody. She'll be on my track bike again. Last year she chewed up race slicks pretty good  :)) Thank you for giving her a suit. She'll make good use of it. Are you signed up yet buddy? Got your track map drawn up yet?

There will be three track sessions per hour. Track time is broken down into expert, intermediate, and novice, each getting 20 minutes of track time per hour, in that order. If we have some intermediate riders in our group they will get second session on track every hour. But by and large our group will be in novice group on track. We will have a few intermediate guys in our class. Anybody who feels they belong in intermediate need to talk with me. Everybody will get classroom time regardless of which group they are in on-track.

I'll be there, but might not ride this year. At the moment, I'm music director at my wife's church until they find someone else, so if I am still doing that gig I will have to leave mid-afternoon.

Do any overachievers have a first draft of their track maps to post up on here?

I just put 4 attempts in the media section. The album is named     jennings_gp_track_maps      One is a blank track outline if anyone wants one and the other three were different formats of mine over the last couple days.

I've never ridden Jennings nor made a track map. I have visited Jennings track days 4 different times with intermediate and advanced rider friends.

My estimates of speeds and gears are from my recent watching of numerous videos over the last couple days. As they say in boxing and MMA, "Everybody has a fight plan until they get hit."

I know this track well and I really like what I'm seeing on your track Maps. I'm not able to see your planned gear selections. Can you write them in w a pencil? Hint: your gears selections are likely to change after a certain class session so pencil is advised.....

Jorge and Irene's photography rivals that of professionals. We are lucky to have them taking pics in the paddock

Jorge is not going to sign up for the class but he'll be taking pictures.  Just FYI Ed

Irene

Then we'll have plenty of pictures. I'm thinking about renting the long glass again, though after talking to a photographer friend of mine in Orlando I might get the Nikon 200-500 instead of the Tamron 150-600 I used last time.

Doug: regarding your comment about Irene's and Jorge's photography...since they have worked as professional photographers, it's no surprise... :) We're blessed to have them as part of the SE.

I look forward to that class.  I only plan on two gears: 3rd and 4th.

I will only go to 3rd in two sections:
a) out of turn 1 toward a shift to 4th between turn 1 and turn 2.
b) into and thru turn 6 using 3rd all thru turns 7,8,9,10,11 and toward a shift to 4th between turn 11 and turn 12.

I'll bring a pencil.

Just my suggestion, I used just 2nd a and 3rd on both my 05 R1 and 10 Concours. My smaller bikes ninja 250 and car 250, a lot more gears. Even when I took a zx6 (if I remember right) I only used 2nd and 3rd, sometimes 4th and that was only coming out of 1 until 4. The speed in that area can be scary for a 1st time track rider.

Roader, your #4 map places your apex's at about the same points I remember from when I was there for Doug's class.
Last year, we all rode Novice and I'll be doing so again as I'm continuing to learn.
{So, this is from my Novice perspective}
Towards the end of the day, I think I may have touched 4th gear a few times, but (like Rico) I mostly used 2nd, and 3rd.

Doug, I'm really looking forward to this. Thank you for doing it again.
If we can help with anything, let us know.

Ride safe, Ted

.......The speed in that area can be scary for a 1st time track rider.

I have no doubt that speed, traffic, and mistakes make what I've mapped an uncertainty, perhaps far too big a chunk for one novice day. It's just how I line up my public twisty experience with my bike, the map, and videos.

My bike pulls very strong from 30 to 115 mph in 3rd and 40 to 135 in 4th gear. It's going to be well worth it even if I have to lower the "plan".

Thanks for sharing your experience with me.

Ride fun

Thanks,
Also, I imagine there are very specific instructed skills we're to practice and demonstrate after each class session such as trail braking and body positioning so there's a lot to experience. It could be overwhelming (but learning's fun).

Your correct and mentioned something that others (that have not attended his class) may not be aware of.

ie; Some of you may be concerned that you can't go fast e'nuff and are overwhelmed by the idea of a track day.
I felt the same way last year.    Don't be....
Any experienced rider can learn from the experience.

As Doug told us.   Ya gotta go slow, before ya can go fast...
And, that's what we're gonna do.
The sessions are aimed at learning skills and not how fast you can go.
We will start of slow,,,, and Doug will teach us skills that we will practice and build on.
As we learn, the speed will increase and the skills will become {almost} second nature.

NOTE: It will NOT be boring.
The speed will build thru the day {and yes,,, your adrenalin will be flowing} but everyone has to learn the skills first.

Ride safe, Ted

PS: Doug, please correct the "Grasshopper" if I erred in my explanation for the First Timers..

Everyone may bring whatever bike they wish to this event. That said, if one were to bring their friend's race ready gsxr-1000 to carve up the track, only to go back to their old ways (on their own bike) after leaving, then this course would be entertaining, but a failure at getting you to apply the skills you learned to your future riding. My hopes are that you will bring your regular bike so that when you leave you will realize that the bike is not your limiting factor. Please nobody misread this to say that I endorse treating a public road like a racetrack. More on this later....

I am trying to work out all the details and get signed up this year. I'd like to enroll my two kids who ride. They aren't COG members. Are there any options for this or will I have to purchase full COG memberships for each of them? We'd all three be in the Novice class if that matters.

I'll send me phone number by PM. TIA.

As a guide to all of you here is what I recommend you do to build a track map:

1. print a JenningsGP map from either their website, google pictures, or trackpedia.

2. Get a stack of printer paper and start drawing track maps that take up the whole 8.5x11 page while looking at the one you printed

3. Then try redrawing the map from memory

4. After you have drawn it sufficiently well, then write the corner numbers

5. Next get a blank piece of paper and write LLLRLLRLRLLLRR which is the order of the turns starting with turn 1. Memorize the turns by closing your eyes and envisioning the turns in your head saying the LLLRLL.... and having somebody check you. This is how you know that you memorized the map.

6. Next draw in features, like the start finish line, rumble strips, etc.

7. Then comes the fun. Start watching YouTube videos of "Jennings CCS Race Amateur" and do not think you will go that fast. I just want you to watch the authority on the topic. Watching a track day guy would be the wrong source of information as you can learn it wrong.

8. Start watching and pausing the video and draw on your map. You should draw the line on the track that represents where you will be in the track as you go around. You will notice there are actually three pieces of pavement, creating two seams.

9. Then write down what gears you plan to be in at different portions of the track.

10. This is also a good time to write in features that become visible as you traverse the course, and pat yourself on the back.

This is actually hard work and you will not do all of this in one sitting. Then crack open a cold one because you will have a giant epiphany as to why you are doing all this  :beerchug:

We are doing a fine job selling up to novice class. It will be pretty much just us in that group. I will however have to close it out in under 2 weeks so if you want in now's the Time to jump on this bandwagon  :)

I will be ready to have a COG party again   :beerchug:

Signed up an paid, this will be my first track experience! I'm a bit nervous and excited at the same time, hoping to replace some fear and apprehension on the road with confidence an maybe even some skill! We (the wife is coming but not riding) will be RV'ing it do we need to secure a spot with hookups?

You can call Virginia to arrange payment of 30/50 amp hookups at 386-938-1110.
Welcome aboard! This will be a busy day. There is A TON going on throughout the day. Your wife can pack a good bunch of food in an RV. Smart choice.

Have you read the first post? Are you drawing track maps? I hope you will learn the track BEFORE you get there so you can learn the skill when you get there, not waste your time learning the track when you get there....

If you're nervous, or just have questions, call me. I know where you're at. 407-791-1543

First time track riding can be mind boggling.    Don't sweet it .   The instructors do a great job helping you

FYI   I learned more on my first trackday than I did riding on the street for 10 years ,

If you can read  " Total Control" by Lee Parks   OR "Twist of the wrist" by Kieth Code before it will help also . Both great books

Doug posted this at the beginning, but we're nearing the time of the event and I think it worth saying again.
A full coverage helmet {not a modular helmet}, boots, and gloves are required if you plan to ride on the track.
And ya hafta wear one of them funny leather suits..  {Can be rented there}

I just talked to him and he reminded me that we must be able to draw the track before we arrive and {if possible}
know where the apex points are.  ie; We need to have the turns memorized.

Study hard. "There" WILL be a test.

I told him it would be EZ for most, but I'm not so sure that "Cliff" could do it.. < :rotflmao:>

My '06 has 30k miles. It lived its whole life at redline on the track. I races it for three seasons and had many track days/practice with it. It still purrrrrs :)

Learning the track before you get there frees you up to learn the drills. If you waste the whole morning learning the track you'll miss out on a whole Lot....

After drawing the track freehand see if you can run the track in your mind without looking at the map. Write down which turn comes first to quiz yourself. Like this: LLLRLLRLRLLLRR
Then draw in features you will see as your ride. To do this watch youtube vids. Then write down reference points if you like but that's not so important. Just get this far with your map so you don't get there saying "Which turn is next?" Bring your pen for the track walk. This allows you to do the drills.

Curriculum
Session 1-7:
1 Referency points, braking (properly) drill, sighting lap
2 Breaking bad habits: Apexes, early, late, mid, double
3 Body Positioning (head, shoulders, hip, knee)
4 After lunch meet in the paddock
5 Traction control and correct rpm's
6 Trailbraking and geometry
7 Putting it all together, how each skill blends into a new product when done together

This is key: If you use your full 20 minutes of each lap and wear yourself out, being unable to physically do session 7, you will miss out on the summary session where you blend each skill into a new product. Pace yourself. This will be a workout both mentally and physically.  :truce:

Roader posted some excellent maps on Post #52.
Others are available at the Jennings GP site.

Found a video of the Track with a Cogger at the helm.
This is Ed {Swampcat} on Shoudaben at one of the Jennings Track Day's.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciJQISA2Cw8 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciJQISA2Cw8)

Here is another video of an expert at Jennings. He's going a "little" bit {aww, ok} a heck of a lot faster than we'll be going.
NOTE; that the same basic apex's are being used in both video's.
Memorize the corners before you get there.

Yep everything is on schedule. The trackwalk is everyone's the classic way of learning the track. Nowadays there's YouTube....I just can't help doing it the old fashioned way. Draw the track maps, walk the track.

I have personally talked with almost every single person signed up. If anybody has any questions, have them reach out to me. If you're nervous, good, it'll keep you humble. If you think you'll come to this track showing how fast you are...  :rotflmao:

TELL 'EM TED!

I can't believe no one is taking advantage of this @ $100.  Insanity!

I was apprehensive my first time last year, but once you do 2 or 3 track sessions, it gets a lot easier and any anxiety goes away.  The novice group is relatively benign in terms of getting in trouble. SOMEBODY TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS...YOU WON'T REGRET IT.

As far as drawing the track is concerned, what is being looked for? I can have a printed map of the track and while looking at it not be able to draw an accurate, proportional rendition of it. I simply can't draw. I know the turns, but my drawings always come out looking like an amoeba undergoing fission! How accurate/proportional does this rendition need to be? I don't need any added apprehension over drawing a map added to the apprehension I already have over attending my first track event. I'm excited about attending, but some of the details have me concerned.

I want you to know what turn comes next. If your learning technique is more hands on then just come and ride it til you know it. Homework has a purpose: to accelerate learning. The fun here is not the surprise of which turn comes next, but the exercise in a turn you know already. If the turns are not a surpirse and turns are predictable your may experience less anxiety. Does that help clarify?

No way I could do that and make it down in time for the class on Friday. (The class is my "bike money" and hopefully is preparing a path for a PT job when I retire.)

Shout out to everyone here: Remember to bring blue painters tape, available at any home improvement store. Bring water, like a gallon of it. If you have a popup canopy, bring that too. And bring your lawn chairs. If you have a fan, bring that too. It'll be 72F in the daytime. Trust me, you'll be sweating. This is a workout, mentally and physically.

Many of you will be renting gear at the track shop. Suits are $60 last I checked. Boots were $20, gloves $10. You must be hiding your skin. No wrists showing. Stop at the gate to give $10 for the weekend pass when you get there. That's your wristband for the whole weekend. Camping is included in that price. We have somebody at the gate starting at 2pm Friday, closing the gate at 9:45pm sharp. Get there early if you want to do the track walk. Figure we will start the walk at 5:30. If you've never been to a track walk, or this track, this will be enlightening. This dude is way cooler than me but this gives you an idea of what a track walk is all about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CraOdr-X3M (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CraOdr-X3M)

We have somebody at the gate starting at 2pm Friday,

Douglas - Can we get in earlier than 2:00? Like Cliff, I'm trying to stay in S. GA (Valdosta) Thursday night. I have to ride over towards Tallahassee Friday morning but I hope to be at the track about 12 or 1:00.

Also we'll be traveling down I-95 from central NC on Thursday, pulling out around 8-9 AM. That should put us in Florence SC about 10:30-11:00 and Savannah around 3:00, Valdosta by 5:30? We can do a little earlier or later, no appointments until Friday morning. If anyone is planning the I-95 run south on Thursday and you want to hook up & caravan, just PM me your phone number and I'll call you or text you back, let me know your preference.

We're trailering the bikes, I have about 300 pounds of materials to drop off for work.

Wow 2 1/2 hours from Savannah to Valdosta.  If you plan on going through Waycross and US 84 to Valdosta there  is  a lot of road construction just west of Waycross, be prepared for delays

I plan to have a coffee station set up. We can do without a lot of things camping, but coffee to start the day and adult beverages to end the day are a must. I use to do this for all COG events, so kind of have it down pat. Maybe Jerry can take these two 42 cup coffee pots back with him to get them back into use.

Damn, there goes the neighborhood   :rotflmao:  I won't bring my keurig then, but I will bring a few gallons of water and a case of 16oz waters too.  I will be glad to take the coffee pots with me.  Kurt told me he is coming down also, he may want to take them as I won't be at the first couple of rallies this year.  I do plan on being at the June 28th rally though.

Yeah I see now Google puts that stretch at 3:15, so probably more like 3:45 for me. And I see it's routing off of 84 west of Waycross, out 122 and then south again. No worries, I'm not on anybody's clock Thursday.

Photos!

As of posting time, these are still uploading and should be done by about 9 p.m. Eastern time. These have had nothing more than a basic treatment and some need to be cropped. I thought it best to get them up as soon as possible since the latest Concourier is also in the works and I need to get back to working on that.

It was a great day and it appears that everyone developed new skills — photographer included! Enjoy!

Safety. In case of an accident, the tape helps keep glass and plastic debris off the track or at least help contain it to make cleanup easier.

I just want to say thank you to Doug Re for making Jennings possible.  The last two years I was not able to participate because of health reasons, but I was bound and determined to make it this year.  I am ever so glad I got to be there.  First, it's always wonderful being around family.  Even though we don't get to see each other as often as we would like, maybe that is a good thing!  We can pick right back up like as if no time has passed.  I learned so much at Jennings as to how to be a better rider.  My fear of curves has reduced itself even more.  The encouragement that I got from the COG members that were there was very helpful.  The more I rode the track, the more confident I got.  I'll be practicing some more of the trailblazing.  Thanks again Doug for doing this.

Thanks to everyone who came out to this event. I hope all of you who participated were able to gain some skills and take what Doug and the folks at Jennings were able to teach you. It was great to see everyone be able to apply the tools you were given in the classroom and string them together throughout the day while you gained confidence and became smoother and more consistent around the track. It was also great to share meals and the traditional quality S.E. region COG fireside theatrics. Love all of you guys and ladies, Until next time :You_Rock_Emoticon:

I just want to thank Douglas & Wendy, and anyone else responsible, for sacrificing their time and energy to make this happen. It was my first COG event and everyone I met was great people. I felt right at home. We learned a lot and my son is already looking forward to more riding time with our new COG family.

As for the class itself, we were blown away. We learned so much, and it gave us a lot to practice. Jennings is a great facility and Douglas is a great instructor - and a great guy. If you're on the fence about doing this, you won't regret it.

Doug and Wendy - thanks for putting on another great track weekend, I was able to build upon last year's instruction, but still slow as chit. :rotflmao:  That was a messy ride down the FL TP, got real wet.

Chris M - thanks for being Doug's right-hand man again in the classroom.

Ed and Jorge - thanks for all the great pics, since you guys took the time, I took the time to look at all of them. :great:

Irene - glad you (finally) made your first track day.

Chris and son - glad you guys got to your first COG event, it truly is a family that you guys seemed to fit right in with.

Steve - nice meeting you and thanks for coming all the way from San Antone...even though you had to ride with Ted. :nananana:  Speaking of getting run off the track...Ted almost ran me off the track and claimed it was something about a blown tire, but now it all makes sense...he must have thought I was you. :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

Ted - thanks for almost running me off the track. :pokestick:

Matt and son - it was good to see ya Matt.  I hope your son isn't too sore a couple days later.  If he's still bummed, tell him to check out the pics...he looked like he knew what he was doing for his first track day.

Everyone else - it always great to hang out with COGgers, everyone has something to contribute, it was great to see you all! :beerchug:

PS - TED could run circles around me all day long, so I trust something didn't feel right at all with the bike while we were a little bunched up there.  Love ya Ted.

This clarification is sent in fun as I had a GREAT time!
But, I guess I need to clarify some things as "some" seem to be trying to be-smirch my (almost) perfect image...
  ;)

1} Shawn; I didn't almost run you off the track. {I just passed you "very" closely as I was exiting the track to check my tire}.
{If I thought you were Steve, I would have run you off the track}. :rotflmao:

2} Steve;  You did run me off the track. {I have a witness}  :nananana:
                 I didn't "try" to pass you. "I did pass you". {In the dirt}
I agree; we were doing a carefully planned maneuver (as Doug had trained us) and moving over to "near" the white line.
{I just didn't know your interpretation was; it was ok for you to be on the track side and me on the dirt side of that white line}.  ::)

3} All;        At the time of this carefully planned maneuver, we were being timed.
I fully admit Steve beat me by 2 seconds.
{Even though I was in the dirt and had to "unpucker" myself from the bike's seat before continuing}  :(

4} Bruce:   While riding a C-10 behind us, you watched/laughed at our carefully planned maneuver and attempted to pass us as we (err) adjusted our line.
I was amazed by your riding skills, and impressed with the patience you demonstrated when Steve got in your way.  :great:
                   {I want to thank you for being my witness}. {refer to line 2}

6} Doug;    Thank you! I learned a lot!!
Your excellent training allowed me to survive our carefully planned maneuver,
{and pass Steve several other times during the day}.  :great:
If you teach us to pass in the turns next year it will be an even better learning experience.
"and" {I'll pass Steve many times instead of just several}...   :motonoises:

7} Funsize;  Those were learning experiences/carefully planned maneuvers, not "antics"..
                   You did good!!  :allhail:
Please help me be-smirch Steve's image whenever possible. ( I have $$)

8} Ed/Jorge; Thank you for all the great photo's!  :great: :great: :great:
{a) How much did Steve pay you to remove the photo of him running me off the track?
{b) Why didn't you get a photo of Shawn getting in my way when I exited the track to check my tire?
{c) Why were there more photo's of Funsize than me?   :-[
{d) I'll get you the $$ I promised to remove the photo's of Bruce showing us all up.

Ride safe, Ted {Clarification complete}   :))

I want to add my voice to those thanking Douglas and all who had any involvement in putting this event on. I'm still grinning from ear to ear and telling people I had a blast just doesn't seem to do the weekend justice! I was able to come away a more confident rider and got everything I had hoped for from the weekend and then some. Thanks to those who took pictures, I am in plenty of them and appreciate your sharing them freely. One of my favorites is one I took myself, and something I thought I would never see on a bike that I was the owner/operator of...

4} Bruce:   While riding a C-10 behind us, you watched/laughed at our carefully planned maneuver and attempted to pass us as we (err) adjusted our line.
I was amazed by your riding skills, and impressed with the patience you demonstrated when Steve got in your way.  :great:
                   {I want to thank you for being my witness}. {refer to line 2}

Totally messin with ya Ted!

That's ok. I deserve it for the close pass across your front fender.
I think I missed you by just a few feet.. OOps.  :sorry:

By the way. It turned out that it wasn't my tire.
I leaned too far and the left foot perch (of my center stand) hit the rumble strips and it turned me across the track.
Scared the heck out of both of us.....

{err} I mean; I was doing a carefully planned maneuver to see if I could drag the left foot perch {of my Center stand} on the rumble strips of turn #12.

By the way, the test was a total success..
     I "could" lean that far,,
         It did drag,,,
"and" the contact with the rubble strip pushed me into a right angle across the track..
                "Suddenly"!!
                     {ie; EXIT; Stage right. "Yeeehaaaaa"}
                                        :41:

PS: Please help me pick on be-smirch Steve {or Irene}...
They deserve it as they suggested the carefully planned maneuver ...
                  I never seldom lie... <evil grin>
                             O:-)

Ride safe, Ted

A big thanks to Doug, Wendy & everyone else that had a hand in this event. Good times for sure & even met some new people this time.

I just returned home last night after a 810 mile ride yesterday, half in the rain with less than ideal temps.  :motonoises: It was worth it!

Glad to hear you made it home safe.  My ride (although considerably shorter and not nearly as cold) was messy too .  I admire all you guys that ride/trailer more than 500 mi for Jennings, don't think i'd do it.

I had a great weekend, wished I could have been out there in front of all the carnage   :rotflmao:

Great pictures Ed/Jorge thanks for posting those.

It was great to see Al Norcross again.

The fire was interesting for sure.

Doug , thanks for doing this once again.

Great partying with you guys and met a first time cog event participant with his son. If I had a memory I would remember their names.  Thanks for the extra firewood and getting the fire flaming on Saturday until Doug came along   :D

See y'all down the road.   :great:

That was Chris (Cape Fear) from a small town in NC, and I regret that my memory fails me on his son's name.

I'm glad you made it home safe and sound.  Riding in the rain is no fun and with less ideal temps makes it not good.  It was good seeing you again.

A belated thank you to Doug for putting this on again.
It was my second track day, and tried to concentrate more on hanging off.  Felt like I was getting better, but the pictures prove that the stiff old muscles only go so far. Felt like I was much smoother through 4/5/6.
And thank you Ted for pretending that you were at max speed while I chased you during the last session.  :nananana:That was a lot of fun. When I saw that you lived in a gold plated tent, I new that you were the COG hired gun. :)
Glad that the weather was cool for the track day, but rain was everywhere for the Sunday after.
Till next time.

Late to this party, but wanting to say how great it was to see everyone. The nights around a fire with the COG family are always so special. The track environment is very familiar to me, but this place had a cosy relaxed feeling. Special shout out to good buddies Cliff and Jerry, a couple of stand up guys that I've known for a long time, and to Ted and Jim who put so much effort into the OTP program that makes COG a special club. Doug and I go way back, and he leaves his stamp on these well run events every time. Being on Cape Cod for six months a year has me doing less with COG, but I'll try to make this again next year.
