Title: Barber's Vintage Festival October 2017
Post by: worncog on June 05, 2017, 03:38:43 pm
Tickets go on sale Tuesday 6 June at 1000. I know a few of you may need to wake up early to get yours, but there are sacrifices that need to be made sometimes.

https://www.barberracingevents.com/vintage-tickets.php (https://www.barberracingevents.com/vintage-tickets.php)

I'm sure it will be a food fest again this year, as it only seems to grow...and grow...

Camping in Group Lot B. HIGHLY recommend getting your camping pass earlier than later as they sell out.

Cheers,
Randy

For all those that have never been, just imagine every motorcycle that has been made in the last 40 years being ridden to the event and parked along the side of the road. While the museum is amazing, the show during the Vintage Festival is along the road looking at all the bikes.

So, if your thinking of attending and camping with the COG contingent, we camp in Lot B. Camping slots do sell out so you should get your camping reservation as soon as possible, but you can get the 3 day entrance passes up to day of the event. We all meet on Thursday and lay claim to COG territory, so if your not coming on Thursday and have a camping spot in lot B, let us know and will save your spot for you.

Food, as Randy mentioned, we generally eat pretty good while there. Several of us drive our cars/trucks with trailers and have a nice camp kitchen set up. We will do dinner every night in camp but for breakfast and lunch, your on your own so you can either bring food in to eat or eat at one of the food vendors. For the provided dinners, we have a donation bucket out for you to contribute to. We will post a dinner menu a few weeks before the event.

We have a member that is local and he will bring a couple coolers of ice and fire wood and fire pit. We will also have additional coolers at camp along with water. There are shower trailers in lob B for you to use along with Port-A-Lets. There are bath rooms & showers at the paddock as well.

Parking, on Friday & Saturday vehicles with 4 wheels or more, need a parking pass. If your not on 2/3 wheels and no parking pass, you will need to park and ride the bus.  If camping, you will get a vehicle parking pass. Motorcycles are allowed to park for free during the event.

This is not an official COG event as we don't do any riding but we will have registration up so we can get a good idea of how many people we have to purchase food for dinner for.

Good times!!

Just to add...

"For ME"....  Ace Corner upgrade isn't really worth the extra money spent.  You will get to see
a part of the track that's difficult to see elsewhere, but there's better places to view the racing action from,
and the vending in that section is no better than anywhere else in the park.

A BETTER recommendation, would be becoming a member at the Museum, get to SEE the museum which
is awesome, and get access to their concession area which is much easier on the wallet.... Free for some meals!

Get your camping in lot "B" and track passes...  This is a GREAT venue, and a great time!

Thinking about coming again. Was there last year, first one to stake out a spot with my Time Out trailer camper. Then as folks rolled in, I suggested a layout to concentrate us all, someone reserved two spots for the lunch wagon, and before we knew it, we had COG central right in the dead center of the lot.

It was even fairly level. I rode around for a few minutes finding a nice level spot for my trailer.  :rotflmao:

One race is for bikes 100+ years old or older. That group grows every year and the first time they did that there was only one bike!

Motocross is in the woods. The riders camp near the track. Some have been racing their vintage bikes since they weren't vintage. Too cool. Some also still have their old campers. It's become my favorite part of the weekend.

Sidecar racing has left hand and right hand hacks out at the same time. You see both sets of physics from any corner. Fun to watch.

If you are a member of the museum you get breakfast and lunch and access to the glass tiled bridges across the track. Also first dibs on seminars. Ewa and I got to take apart a Britton. Some seminars are that cool.

Things like the Wall of Death and Globe of Death are free. Barber hooks it up as these are more fun if they are free lol. The riders up their game all fhe time - 3 in the globe at once or riding on the wall with no hands facing backwards is worth seeing for free.

Japanese Vintage Motorcycle Club in Lot A always has a nice turnout.

Swap meet is so big and active I can't sometimes believe it.

What else?!?

Oh yeah - the slow races - Coffee Break has a rep around there on her C10  :motonoises:

Come join Secog (and Cliff 🤠) for a great weekend  :beerchug:

Thanks so much for posting the link for the tickets. I see everything is sold out for RV's and will soon be sold out for Camping too.. This event is a 'Do Not Miss'.
Anyone who goes always says 'I will never miss going to this event again'. Yes it is that good and the Coggers make it even better.. hence the Sold Out tickets every year. I started going about 7 years ago and have never missed one since.

I wonder if our friend is going to do a face plant again --- That was priceless!!

Phil, they always send out 2 camping passes in the packet & 2 tents are allowed on a 10' x 20' spot. You should be able get a pass from someone & then just buy a admission pass. I've already promised mine out provided  he can make it or I'd send you one.

Jenn, you can share the spot Jean and I have, we are driving the SUV and there is plenty of space for the car and two tents.  Are you riding your bike.  Also the place is wide open and the spots aren't controlled by a fence or anything  ;D  so don't worry about it, just come on.

No problem Jenn. Just come. I have an extra spot for you. Just look for the big white truck and the two giant tents.

Do y'all think I can get in the gate Friday night without a camping pass? I was kinda thinking I would show up early if I can...
Title: Re: Barber's Vintage Festival October 2017
Post by: MotoCommuter on August 10, 2017, 09:47:41 am
Jenn, will you have your 3 day pass or were you purchasing it on site? Don't know when the gates shut down, but until they do, you can just ride in. Once they shut down, only vehicles with camping/paddock passes are allowed in. If the gates are shut down and you have your 3 day pass and they won't let you in, just call one of us and we come and get you.

I was gonna buy a pass this week. Then a job fell through so I'm gonna have to wait another week, but I know those won't run out. I was just hoping for the leeway to come early...and I know phone service is spotty in the campground. Hence sending someone here half the camping money for a pass....

Also, I have not heard back from our local contact about fire wood so I'll bring some and Fais will bring some, if anyone has room to bring more that would be great.

Does anyone have preferences to where we want to camp as a group?
I would love to get the lower left corner next to the woods. Those lots are always the first to go.

Hi everyone,

I know it's short notice but my travel companion that was going to split fuel costs for my truck trailer cancelled at the last minute. If anyone would like to put your bike and gear in my enclosed trailer and split fuel costs for the ride to Barber let me know here or PM me.
I'm in central Florida near Daytona Beach.

I'm in for dinners on Thursday Friday and Saturday nights too. Please add me to the list.

Omelet station will be provided to include:

Eggs, assorted veggies, ham, assorted cheeses and the tools to make an omelet. I will be available to make them for you and you are welcome to make yourself one anytime .

Not providing: potatoes, bacon or bread - someone else can make those:-)

Oh yeah - free! No biggie but that's why there won't be bacon lol

Can't wait - we leave at the crack of dawn from Knoxville

An awesome weekend was once again thwarted by the weather. We still had a blast and I probably put 500 miles on MiniZ slow racing and doing burnouts  ;D Luna was on her best behavior and we even joined up into the Airheads Club. They had cool shirts and assorted swag in a cool booth manned by good folks and plenty of cool stickers - wow - what a concept! Their free calendar ain't bad either. What crazy marketing concepts - simply wild stuff! The TN chapter Air-Marshall joined us for dinner and came back to make hash browns the next morning. Super cool stuff  :great:

Our kitchen was the pride of Lot B once again:) super cool to have that much to work with. Sizzling steaks and the sounds of vintage bikes makes for an epic symphony.

Oh well -  better to have camped and been evacuated then to never have camped at all. Like they say - 2 minutes in heaven is better than one minute in heaven.

Glad you liked the omelets Cliff -  will definitely do it again next year  ;D

Thanks to everyone for a great weekend. And *#@& you Nate!

I left from my duaghters house this morning at 6:30.  She lives 20 miles from Barber.  Holy s***, I am so glad I wasn't on a motorcycle this morning.  High winds, buckets of rain and low visibility.  Came up on a guy on an airhead naked bike, I felt bad for him.

Thanks Kurt for his "kitchen" set up and Fais the omelet man   :great: y'all did a great job, too bad we had to evacuate, but so damn glad I did.  It would have been miserable packing up this morning.

Just got back to Ocala from , Barber.  I stopped in Opelika last night at my good friends, Steve and Patty Giittinger (former neighbors, great hosts, friends forever).  I left there about 12:45pm after the heavy stuff had passed, and had a safe ride home.

Thanks to all the COGers  and others that I camped with.  Had a great time.  Kurt and Fais: thanks for all the food and hospitality.  You guys are the gold standard.  Hope everyone made it home safe.  See you next time.

Well, the event was going along fairly well, albeit a bit more crowded this year than last, and a bit warm...but, then came Nate.

I was watching this develop for the three preceding days leading up to the start of BVF, and it was not looking good from the start. I skip the drama of the Weather Channel and go straight to the reliable sources. All Floridians have their 'special' information sources. Long story shortened, as Nate developed, the track moved slightly left and had a bit of a curve leading it straight for Birmingham after rolling over New Orleans and giving Mississippi a good rinsing. With all that, event coordinators hit the switch and called it done with everyone being ordered to evacuate the event Saturday evening and all scheduled events for Sunday cancelled. IIRC, there were expected to be 45mph winds at the site and driving rain. Not fun camping stuff.

Ahhhh.... Thanks Randy.  I had a hunch it was Nate...  I thought it was going to track west of Barber...  I guess I'm not that reliable a source.   :-[

Darn shame...   Glad y'all had SOME good weather.  Wish I could've gone, but I'll be lyin' low for at least the next several months.
got a LOT going on at the house, and won't have much time for Rallies an' such.   :(  Most of my ridin' will be to work.  :38:

Ouch. Glad all made it home safely, if not a bit wet. Took the weekend to visit family in Atlanta. The rain was not a great thing to deal with.

Hey y'all -

Thanks for the adda-boys but I must admit a 2-egg omelet cannot be compared to brisket and Kay's cole slaw.

Hat's really off to Kurt.

Deeeeeelicious  ;D

Looking forward to 2018 already. We have a small leak in the 2nd floor bathroom. No damage but the repair justifies some remodeling for all the trouble and tear down required. My next few months of farkling will be tile and carpentry related:-/

BUT!  Breakfast is the  most appreciated meal the morning after a night of Campfires and Fireball.  Don't sell yourself short!  ;)

Wish you had made Mcfly. We missed you not being there.   I will never forget that line:  " Bulllshyte--Nothing funny ever happens in Russia!!"

Thanks Mike..  Me too.  Been a bad year, worksux has been just that, and vacation time went towards stupid things
instead of riding.  Gonna queue up next year with the Coolest Rally, and hopefully make a better year of it.

Doing a double batch of Applepie Moonshine over the holidays so there will be a fair portion left for Starke!
Got the new Taj-Marty-Hall waiting to be tripped into!
