BMWNEF 36TH Annual Winter Rally
« on: October 16, 2018, 12:29:52 am »
Tickets are now for sale for the BMWNEF Winter Rally.  **JAN 18-20, 2019**

COG has regularly made an appearance at this Rally, and for good reason.
The BMWNEF crew put together a great weekend event at Camp Blanding,
in Starke, FL.  Rally Central has a full schedule all weekend.  Dinner is included
both Friday and Saturday nights, with a great Steak dinner on Saturday night
for the banquet.

There is a swap meet, a vendor area with a lot of great merchandise, guest speakers.
Off road guided tours of the base... the list goes on.

This is my 5th time going....  and as a Winter Rally, camping has usually
been far more a challenge than the surrounding roads.

This is NOT a COG event.  If interested, please visit the link below:

https://bmwnef.org/rally

(Don't sit on your laurels too long, attendance is limited, and this usually fills up quick)

Well damn, looks like I will miss next years Coldest Rally   >:(

Seems SWMBO has other plans for us that weekend, already cast in stone. I guess I better go see the grandchildren, and no, the dates can't be changed   :'(

Do you have to wear a Moto safety vest when on base?

If it's not fun, why do it?

Do you have to wear a Moto safety vest when on base?

An EXCELLENT question, Kurt.

As the event is held on a military base, we ALL must comply with the rules when on the base.
This means in addition to wearing ATTGAT when on base, a reflective vest is also required.

Base reguations minimum requirements for safety gear include long sleeve shirt or jacket,
long pants, fingered gloves or mittens, a DOT approved helmet strapped on, eye protection
to be shatterproof riding goggles/glasses or a visor/shield on your helmet, and over ankle boots.

Military Police WILL enforce these requirements, as well as speed limits and other rules of the road.

When registering online at the BMWNEF website be sure the name you register under matches
the name on the Gov't issued ID you'll be using to enter the base at the gate.

Well, the new bike is fully outfitted, now for this boy's body. Second cataract removed today. Recovery fully expected by first of year. Then, on to training wheels with the new bike because it's been SOOO LOOONG since my last ride!  >:( May have to re-up the Beginner's riding class....

Actually, I'm cleared by the doctor to drive now without glasses.  As a transportation planner, I wonder just how low is the threshold for sight in a driving permit????

Yep, we're good to go! Farkles seem to appear when called upon, and leave when the engine quits. BTW, I'm loving the heated grips  :)

I may, or may not, have prescription lenses when this event rolls around...

As of today, on base housing is sold out, and yes you have to wear the safety vests...its on the website posted at the beginning
