Title: Carolina's CONclave 2018 April 21st
Post by: Dave Scott on January 15, 2018, 04:30:17 pm
It's time again for the battle between the Carolinas!  I'm sure Ranger Jim will jump in with the official score, but suffice to say that the NC members need to show up this year to even the score!

It's North Carolina's turn to host the event, so we'll travel north of the border to get together at Mac's Speed Shop in Charlotte.  Mac's has been a landmark in Charlotte for cars and bikes for a long time.  you never know who or what type of vehicles will show up.

Come out, represent your state, have some great food, and see or meet old and new friends!
this is open to COG members as well as forum members.  Guests are always welcome as well.

This event is the week after tax day and a week before the SE region spring rally.  You can consider it a celebration on your great tax return, or a warm up ride for the rally.  either way, show up!

Georgians and other ne'er-do-wells count for SC, including Snowbirds in migration? Tennesseans and other neanderthals count for NC?  :))

Currently, SC is leading but NC can tie the score if they outdo us this year.  :nananana:

Members from South of NC (SC, GA, FL, AL, MS, LA, etc) will count for SC. Members from North of SC (NC, TN, KY, VA,  etc) will count for NC.  Visitors are more than welcome but only MEMBERS count for the totals. :great:

Weather should be great for riding: not to hot, not too cold. Goldilocks should be happy.   :motonoises:

Get it on your calendar and plan to attend. The date again, if you're from NORTH of SC is April 22.  ;)  If you're from SOUTH of NC, come on April 21. :)

I'm a little behind on getting details together & placing this on the calendar. HMR #5 will happen April 19 -22 & will be a 4 day event this year. There is a thread posted in the SC section.

You're gonna be missing a few people Dave!  :nananana:

Cliff's rally is pretty far for the NC crowd.  many of our guys don't do rallies farther away.  So all you SC (and farther south) guys feel free to attend Cliff's rally.  NC should win for sure!   >:D

time for a bump to the top!  :)

C'mon all you guys from, AL, GA, FL, MS, and especially SC. You know you want to make a ride to eat some great BBQ and meet some more cool folks. There will be plenty of both at this event. Additionally, you'll be helping SC soundly trounce our northern neighbor to take home the bragging rights! WHAT COULD BE BETTER THAN THAT? :))

IIRC, Cliff is an honorary SeaCog member.

Usually a large contingent from SeaCog is at his rally. It's that good.  :great:

I don't ever plan to miss one, in the same league as RWTW and Spider. For me, these three rallies are all do not miss.

All you South Carolina members (and from points south) need to come so we can show that  scurvy Sport Rider how we can win even if he does cheat. :)

Hey Dave!  Be sure that Denise brings her riding gear so I can take her for a spin on my Goldwing. BTW, I know where you can buy one in really good condition.  ;)

I represent that remark! They did use my name in one of the first GPS units to hit the market, after all....

And on the off chance that I do arrive at this event, is there the possibility of getting help with my bike's sag adjustments? (notice I said 'bike's sag' and not mine....).

Don't have snooze-control yet. Waiting for ZG (or Kurt) to find that farkle. Cruise control is pretty nice though, but still getting used to that.

it makes Iron Butt rides a lot easier!   :great:

Tell Denise to bring a helmet....

I quit!

I'll be there on my 'wing too. She'll have a choice which one to ride on or she can try both.  :))

You might as well start perusing Craigs list now. You'll be buying one sooner than later.  :rotflmao:

To paraphrase David Banner (AKA: the Incredible Hulk), "Don't make us angry. You wouldn't like us when we're angry."  :rotflmao:

See you (and Denise) tomorrow. :great:  :D

Out of (in)sincere sympathy to the plight of the multi-bike owning, David S., I have cleaned up the C-14 and shall attempt to ride that so I can keep up with Tom on I-85 and prevent a catastrophic meltdown in NC...The boss is otherwise occupied with registration at the college tomorrow and will reluctantly be working instead.

However, I think Tom did invite about 10-12 friends at least, to come with us and I invited 2 more. If they don't show  up, we'll try to recruit a few at various rest stops along the way...

We shall see @ 7:30 tomorrow morning in Jefferson GA at the McD's. If anyone else is heading that way, look for us. I-85 northbound @ 8:00 am. 1 C-14, 1 C-10.

Having owned a C10 (2000) model, newer than Tom's, I can completely assure you that your 'wing will EASILY  keep pace with Tom (you have ridden with Tom, right?). ;D

Thank you to all the people who helped organize the event today.  I hope everyone had as much fun as I did.  It was great to see some familiar faces and meet some new ones.  And-  South Carolina won!!!

Thanks to you Kev!  SC pulled off another win. This time it was in "enemy" territory and in spite of Dave's attempts to cheat. ;)

Cindy and I had a great time seeing everyone (regardless of state) and enjoyed the "tire-kicking and bench racing" in the parking lot after the meal.

Was really great to see Dick McWay (COG #233) again. He's been suffering from vertigo for what seems like ages (probably seems longer to him). He rode all the way in from Pickens, SC.

Was also great to have Tom Sills ride in from Rome, GA and our AD, Ron Simmons. They counted for SC. :great:

Lots of fun. Neat place. Good food. Super people! I especially enjoyed talking with Kevin. Tom and I rolled across the Palmetto State and back to my house at a leisurely pace and arrived about dark. See y'all soon!

Likewise, enjoyed the company of COGgers. Glad to catch up with many of you and to make new acquaintances with the rest.
Had a great weekend of riding and learning anew what a nice bike the C-10 can be to take on the road. My 15-hour day was capped off by some excellent Hall County hospitality and the best mileage per gallon yet obtained with my bike following Ron on the leg back to Gainesville, 43.6. When I was in the lead, the mileage was not nearly so great. I'm blaming it on headwinds, yeah, that's it, headwinds.... :))

27.75 mpg for a C-10 is battling some serious headwinds.... :rotflmao:

:-\ I rode a C10 for over 16 years and NEVER got under 35mpg. Pulling my camper trailer I still got 38. :??:

There was some debate about the accuracy of the computations, but it's hard to be efficient at 8* mph and getting pushed by traffic.
