3 Connies showed up.  My 98, an 04, and a 10 C-14.  I pulled out the win on my 98 :)  Goes to show... even if you have a $30k Wing or Beemer...  It won't give you much of an advantage.  :P  I do need a better seat though.

Just reserved my room at the Key West Inn in Baxley.

Anyone who wants to have a great time eating BBQ, listening to live music and oh yeah, doing a 12 hour rally should sign up.  You will not have more fun on any ride you do all year.

I went to the website.  Is it a set course or do you just have to log as many miles as possible in 12 hours? :motonoises:

This is a rally.  Rally's don't have a set number of miles to travel or a specific route.  If your not familiar with a rally this is basically how they work, some are a little different.

*** Miles, jump in and add anything that I may have forgot to tell them. ***

You receive a packet from the rally master before the start with several locations on a map.  Each location is worth a point value, some higher some lower in points.
Rally's sometimes have themes, the theme this year for Ed's is Guns & Roses, I suspect you will have to find things the reference guns or roses (Similar to a scavenger hunt) and those are worth points.
You also get points for other things such as multiple states, not getting a ticket, taking a 30 min lunch break and so on.

How it's going to work is, Friday during or after dinner the rally master will pass out the packets, you have that night to determine the route you want to take and the points you want to grab.  The rally has a maximum time of 12 hours, after that time points are deducted for each minute you are late.

Last year the mileage for the rally was between 350 and 700 miles.  If this is your first rally I suggest you come for the hospitality and great food.  Talk to the guys about how to do a rally and then give it a try, everyone is more than happy to help you learn.   They can be very addicting once you do a couple.  They are a lot of fun even if you don't win.

Personally, I never try to win a rally.  I just love to get out and ride to find roads that I never have been on before and have a great time the the group.

Mike, That sums it up pretty good.  But the ride is only half the event.  Getting together with a bunch of motorcycle enthusiasts, with some great food is the other half.  Some people think rallies are like Sturgis or Daytona Bike weeks.  This is a different type of event all together.  There are actually very few Harleys  ;D As Mike said... its a scavenger hunt on 2 wheels.  It is a competition per say, but instead of having the fastest bike... its more about  route planning and time management.  Last year we were given 70 locations to plan a route around.  The closest being 10 miles away, the furthest 385 miles... and everything in between.  You plan a route that you think will get you the most points, but you can still get back on time.  Or you can pick a few places that look cool and you just want to see.  It could be a small plaque on the side of a building, or a huge missle on the side of the road.  This rally last year took me to see the Mt Dora, FL Lighthouse, Gator Joes in Oklawaha, FL, and a Cobra attack helicopter in Ga... to name a few.  Another rally I did took me to a huge Submarine memorial in Kings Bay, GA, a Blue Angels jet in Jax, and the former Bongo Land park in Daytona...(never heard of it either, but I'd been there 100 times as we played there as kids) as well as 15 other places.  My first rally i rode 400 miles, the 2nd was 700, and the 3rd was 500 miles.  I'm the type that takes these rallies serious.  Some go just to have a fun ride to do one weekend. Some people come just to eat.  I've written a few blogs on my experinces in the last 3 rallies @ http://miles-lee.blogspot.com that will give you an idea of my twisted thinking while on these rides.

Reid 53- Its not a set course.  You make the course from the list provided.

Clinton- Unfortunatly it'd take 50 pages to truly explain a rally.  Most people are brought in by someone else that knows about rallies and introduces them to the crazy group of people that ride hundreds of miles and come back with a few obscure pictures and gas station receipts.  The Iron Butt Association has some good info, Motorcycle Tourer's Forum, and even my blog http://miles-lee.blogspot.com/2011/06/iron-butts-and-rallys.html

(But really its just an excuse to be away from the wife and on a motorcycle for a weekend trip.)
